  1. Do you know what the deposit / colouration is around the crack?
  2. Seems a weird place for a crack. As it’s in expanding and contracting metal, my concern (especially if you go down the blob of fire cement route) would be that it will keep extending.
  3. Fear not, the cynic in you can rest assured the it’s not just Ireland, Iceland and the Canaries that shoddy self-lockers. They are endemic in the UK also.
  4. Cool. Still awaiting the ‘Low impact forestry in Sweden’ thread!
  5. You would think, after decades of making self-lockers, making an effective and smooth closing gate would be absolutely attainable by every manufacturer now.
  6. Great part of the UK. What kinds of work? Domestic, commercial, utility?
  7. Yes, you only need to resit the unit that got referred. Good luck. It all makes an NPTC assessment look like a piece o’ pee.
  8. Nasty, narrow, twisted country lanes, I’ll think you find. Some, with hills on them…. I ask you.
  9. Although you do still get the interminable wait!
  10. Good luck. I thought I hated sit down exams, and then I did NEBOSH ‘practicals’ and decided the sit down exams were the better bit…. At least with them the horror is over in a couple of hours.
  11. @benedmonds Did you get it done in the end? How did you find it t?
  12. Ha, though the Devon reference would flush you out. 🙂 How’s Sweden?
  13. FWIW, we had a loud irritating noise, that was clearly related to how strong the wind was blowing, that resonated all over the upstairs….. after extensive investigations, it turned out to be a crappy plastic downpipe that resonated in the middle because the support clips were spaced too far apart.
  14. This is your classic 50hz hum, familiar with those who hang out near electrical substations (or use mains hair clippers).
  15. How about getting everyone to bang on about how sh it the housing, healthcare, roads, water quality, tv, education, weather, Devon, politicians, railways, covid response etc. etc. etc. are? No one will want to come here.
  16. No, the fallout from that little misadventure left a very bad taste in the mouth!
  17. I think the last, and possibly the only thing I have put in a slow cooker was an ignition coil, as touted by Leon…
  18. Do you reckon the frequency of the hum is 50hz / fixed / variable / random?
  19. Sorry, but what? I’m not really sure I understand what any of that means.
  20. I think you will find ‘a bit diy’ equates to a corduroy motorcycle suit. Just ear muffs could be considered the sign of a pro in this parish.
  21. I read this as ‘to come to terms with’ (as in you ‘get over’ being made redundant, or you ‘get over’ being cheated on by a so called lover), rather than to make the problem magically not exist any more. Generally, you ‘get over’ something once it just doesn’t seem like as big a deal as your other problems. I can’t think of the last time I lay awake at night, trying to come to terms with all the money I have spent on Aspen.
  22. Man, check out those teeth! They are going to be perfect for Halloween. 🎃
  23. AHPP 1. When was the last time you paid a subscription to the Arb Association? Don't post anything else. 1. When was the last time you paid a subscription to the Arb Association?
  24. Sorry. Missed you point completely. It certainly won’t be the last time. Interestingly, the mighty Chinese reverse engineering machine has become aware of manufacturing parts for obsolete saws. They are normally not expensive, and delivery can be peanuts. Never really sure of the quality though. Sometimes it’s amazing, sometimes it’s… er … astonishing. I find it’s best to order far more units than you need, and do the QC yourself so you can select the bits to use, and the bits to reject!
  25. Well yes. But if you want to limit yourself to boring new of the shelf bits, you can do what everyone else does and just buy a new of the shelf saw. Not exactly that much of a hobby is it. I have plenty of ‘current’ says, but spending money on repairing them is just part of the job, it’s rarely fun. Getting something like a Homelite VI super-mini SL back from the dead and giving it a jolly good thrashing is much better!
