  1. We have two stoves, an excellent although expensive Woodwarm and a not so good Hunter. They are fitted in identical chimneys, the Woodwarm will burn 24/7 no probs whilst it is a struggle to keep the Hunter going all day because it tends to die! So am looking to replace said Hunter but would prefer not to pay as much as Woodwarm. Machine mart are doing what appears pretty good deals on the Clarke range including this one: Clarke Regal Cast Iron Stove - Machine Mart anyone know about them? Thanks all,
  2. Can you say what size the nets are, please?
  3. I`d like to make a splitter type of grid to go on the log splitter for kindling has anyone any ideas/drawings (quite willing to pay for such as CAD plans)? Don`t wish to hijack this thread, just a question!
  4. The Mitsubishi engine is known to have a problem with the front crank pulley. On some engines the thread in the crank is not deep enough and will eventually allow the pulley to come loose. This in turn normally ends up with the nose of the crank worn. First place I`d check!
  5. He probably wouldn`t need to advertise if he didn`t rip off, I for one would have bought another 100 tonne off him by now!
  6. Checked out, paid up front as requested. Delivery 2 weeks late over the weighbridge 1.5 tonnes short. Despite MANY requests never a refund, probably pay him a visit. BTW the wood was as described, I just strongly object to those who rip others off.
  7. Showmans licence allows, I believe, you to tow up to six trailers. Think they are also tacho exempt!
  8. What I`ve been offered is well seasoned, so I`ll get loads more volume per tonne. Sounds like it`ll be a goer then!
  9. Thanks for that, I`ve never sold softwood logs before, and don`t want to end up with something that`s no good.
  10. This has probably been done before, however I am just wondering what Scots is like as a firewood? I`ve been offered some which I would intend to sell mixed with hardwood as a lower price option for stoves.
  11. Hi,

How much do you want for the Oak cordwood?

You can call me on 07875 488974 if you want, Gordon

  12. Sam, Which part of the country are you?
  13. I`ll put some photos up once I`ve got it! I`ll ask him if he wants his details posting.
  14. There`s a chap I know who makes them, pretty well whatever you want, as long as it`s a splitter. He doesn`t advertise but reckons he`s made about 300! If you`re interested pm your details and I`ll pass them on to him.
  15. Bear in mind that to go through a processor it needs to be within a certain size range. Because most of the stuff we get goes from about 4" to about 30" we are having a splitter built and will carry on cutting large stuff with chainsaw and smaller stuff through sawbench. FYI the splitter will have a diesel engine, is horizontal and will only cost us about £1200! You could do an awful lot with the remaining £2800!
  16. They have a belt, change interval 60k. I believe Turner engineering produce a gear driven conversion, expensive but never needs changing!
  17. Hi all, Only just stumbled on this thread! Count me in. Currently run two D3`s, both V8`s and on LPG. If anyone wants parts or anything then PM me as my other business is independent Land Rover specialist!
  18. Customers... ain`t they just priceless! I`ve always thought the job could be better without them!
  19. Thanks for the answers. Kindlett, we`ve been selling for £60 a cube for the first and £55 after that on the same load (we have a trailer that holds six x 1 cube bins). Not as much as some on here, but we`d rather provide something that is seen as good value and build a good client base. Will probably charge a little more next winter, although we still have several cowboys round here quoting so much per ton! Then we get the calls `how much for a ton of logs`! Just wish people would realise how they get so ripped off by some.
  20. Looking for some advice. We`ve had a good season on logs, having just come back into it. We buy nearly all our wood in as 2.5m cord by the tonne, and as we have always done it has all been hardwood. Now I know a lot of people sell softwood logs, which I reckon if you buy per tonne and sell per cube must give more per tonne? So which softwood is good to sell? I know of one merchant who says he sells Larch, is that any good?
  21. For that distance, comfort, towing ability the best vehicle bar none is the Discovery 3. After driving one you just won`t want anything else. I speak from experience with Land Rovers for over 30 years. Ours do lots of towing and are just so capable. There are often ex-highways agency cars available from BCA, they have normally done just over the 100k but fully serviced and often with some remaining LR warranty.
  22. Try setting the heater to recirc before switching off and make sure all windows etc are shut tight. If it`s windy park in a sheltered position. Most alarm triggerings are down to the volumetric sensor inside the vehicle.
  23. Yeah.... Wisbech area... for me sins!
