  1. We do mixed loads of softwood & second grade hardwoods @ £85 per 1m3 bag and hardwood grade 1 (Ash, Beech etc) @ £105 per 1m3, all dry and ready to burn. Much less than this and you may as well stay in bed!
  2. Our pole barn cost about £300 for the roof sheets, free coppiced poles for the frame and about another £50 for sawn timber for roof supports. Pallets were free as they are an American size the reclaim boys can`t sell! Gives us enough storage for about 200 cube at any one time!
  3. We use vented bags but mainly only for transporting logs in. They are very good because when you turn up at the customers house they can see they are getting a quality product right down to the bottom (and not just a layer of premium wood on top, as previously experienced by one customer I delivered to yesterday!). If you are storing under cover to dry then the space becomes an issue, by stacking, although there is an increase in handling it allows storage of at least 50% more in the same space compared to filling barn with bags. Yes, obviously you need some kind of handler to load etc. We like to dleiver multi loads on a tri-axle trailer and can get easily 4 1M3 bags on.
  4. Delivered to a customer this week who had some of the famous plastic bags of kiln dried in her garage. The logs inside the bags had mould on them! We cut, split and stack all our logs in our drying barn, this has a roof, pallet floor and sides. Even at this time of year the logs moisture content is down to less than 20% and more often sub 18% in about two weeks. By dividing the barn into sections we are able to easily `rotate` stock.
  5. Attached is a photo of the bags:
  6. Cambs/Lincs/Norfolk border. I could repackage and send to you at cost if interested.
  7. I`d like to buy some smaller vented bags and am interested in the 80x80x80 size from Bag Supplies. These hold 0.5 M3 and I reckon they are a good idea to offer as a smaller size particularly for the `Christmas Brigade`! OK, so they are £3 + VAT + Delivery each, minimum 50. I don`t really need 50 so are there any other forum members who would like to take some at cost price?
  8. Never had any Cedar.... as for the Chi-Lites, come and lay on the couch:closedeyes:
  9. IMHO that site sets out to deceive. Deliberate use of terms such as `bulk bag` when referring to 1m3 bags. In the top photos they say their bag is sold as 1m3 but at the bottom it has suddenly grown to 1.2m3 without any noticeable increase in size!
  10. Yes, thanks for that link. That`s settled my mind too.
  11. We`ve noticed a lot of that in our Ash this year, There is another thread on here about this problem and someone wrote that woodworm don`t exist in fresh felled wood (or something along those lines). So, presumably, this is caused by something else?
  12. Less than 20 years ago I employed a chap who coppiced Sweet Chestnut with an axe, both felling and snedding. He worked in all weathers in only a pair of shorts, I never knew him cut himself! When it came to cutting wood to length he was proud to boast that he could `toe and heel a 3ft bow saw`! It`s a real shame these skills are getting lost along with the more pleasant experience of working in the wood without the constant sound of machinery!
  13. A better base vehicle would be Disco 3. My other business is a Land Rover independent if you`re seriously interested then I`d look at the feasabilities.
  14. 576 rocks! Best saw I`ve ever had bar none. Great anti-vibe, nicely balanced. Use it with a 20" for bucking and a 15" for coppice work, it just flies!
  15. Out of interest (I`m sure I`ve not missed something), how to the responders know the sex of the complainer?
  16. Multi-drop delivery is the way to go. We use a 16ft tri-axle which allows us to deliver up to 6 x .75m3 boxes or 4 x 1m3 bags on one load. I find that even with 6 seperate delivery points in our fairly rural location I am actually only on the road for about 2.5 hours so 12 loads a day is easy, means we can keep our deliveries to one or max two days per week.
  17. Has anyone got this guys contact number, pleeeease!
  18. Has anyone got contact details for John Colley Forestry, Lincolnshire? Thanks in advance,
  19. We got one of these: Abbey 9kw Cast Iron Multi fuel Stove Wood burning burner online shop stoves
  20. Thanks for all the help. We followed niftysteve`s link and have been and done the deal! Good choice, good value. I`ll let you all know how it goes.
  21. I suppose I`ve opened another can of worms! There are, no doubt, good and not so good examples of all makes. I`m just not so keen to spend little short of £1k on a Woodwarm if the Clarke example will be very nearly as good.
  22. Sorry Charlieh, I meant the stove! We like to burn 24/7 when the weather is colder, are they good at keeping in all night? Are they well controlled? Thanks,
