  1. I do know of a Manitou for about £6k + VAT if you're interested?
  2. Some are only 9hp others are 13, does the £609 include delivery?
  3. Specifically are these any good? Equipment - Wood Splitting | Equipment for Hire | Equipment for Sale | Kirkby Stephen | Cumbria | North West
  4. Does that have the Ford engine? They are prone to porous block!
  5. Have been looking for a teleporter saw some Sandersons but they didn't compare well with the Manitou 626 that I ended up with. Well worth waiting and keep looking! You don't have to spend a fortune to get a nice clean machine. Also may be better to find a machine with Perkins rather than the Ford engine, IMO!
  6. Thanks for that, I'll give it a miss in that case
  7. I have access to an empty workshop with a waste oil heater, if I put, say 20 cube bags in and heat it for 8 hours a day for 5 days will I significantly improve the drying speed? I don't intend getting down to kiln-dried levels but somewhere between that and ambient would be good.
  8. Doesn't bode well for the quality of the Chinese food in your area
  9. Just for information ours is an LDV Maxus, not the best build quality, but, probably, the lightest van in that size!
  10. Logsnstuff: the payload is actually 1590kg!
  11. We unload from the bags, so not leavings bags with customer. Round here they wouldn't want to pay a bag deposit!
  12. We put the bags on an old empty bag. they slide along fairly easily, plus van has side door as well, so it's only really the middle bag that has to be moved when unloading. Load up with forklift using one bag to push the next along. Works for us
  13. We used to have a Discovery & trailer, required tacho. Now use a 3.5 tonne van, can get 3 x 1m3 bags in it, easier to get in places and only takes 5 mins to chuck the logs out, no tacho required! It's very easy to get 'wrapped' up in the 'need' to acquire more and bigger kit when, sometimes, less is more!
  14. If that's the yard I think it is they send a lot well up into Scotland, pre-priced nets @ £3.25 from memory. Not sure where the profit comes in, must be just on the quantity I guess!
  15. In the 12 months or so since my original post we have offered softwood as a lower priced option. This winter we have mainly mixed it with some second grade hardwoods such as willow. Generally customers who have had it have been pleased, it was all nice and dry to much less than 20% MC. We will definitely continue with it. As a side issue I think it is quite useful to offer to customers that are new to wood stoves as it probably is a bit easier to get a good fire with.
  16. You`ll have to remind me what they`ve won recently (including Saturday!)?
  17. It`s a trade off for pivot and position. I find that sometimes I catch the off switch on the saw as I start the cut, if it was the old 268 I had it wouldn`t happen with the slide switch! I quickly decided against bar clamp in favour of mount using bar/side cover fixings.
  18. It`s a 576xp! Anyone wants anthing similar then best PM me:idea:
  19. It relates to both location and my support for the countries top Rugby team:biggrin:
  20. Thought about it, reckon it would be easy enough to achieve. I happen to know where there are more of them!
  21. I`ll take some close-ups next time:up:
  22. Don`t worry, that just happened to be a bit of large Ash, yes straight, but even that size with some bends still goes through! I thought that piece would show how quick it cuts!
  23. After weighing up the options I built this a few months ago. I cut everything on it which drops straight into wooden crates that are then forklifted to the splitter. Logs are then stacked in the barn to dry. Probably not as quick as full blown processor, but fraction of cost, less breakdowns and it`ll take up tp 18 inch plus bent stuff!
