  1. Shoot them. Depending on the location and proximity to neighbours an air rifle might be best. If you are in the middle of no-where get the shot-gun out.
  2. Sorry, just the spitting image of one of our friends dogs who we refer to as a Sprocker! We've got a springer and i'd like to use her as a gun dog but I honestly think she is just too stupid:laugh1: Suppose i'd better give her a chance as she's only 9 months old at the mo so still just bouncing around being excited by everthing. Our rottie in my avatar would be a great retriever if he would bring stuff back and not just eat it:lol:
  3. Thanks mate, glad you understood my post. I did mean it as genuine advice for Hama. I cant imagine him happier than in some far flung destination doing his bit surrounded by trees and fungi. Think doing something worthwhile and appreciated might be just what he's looking for. And I too hope he gets it.
  4. cool looking dog by the way mate. is it half springer half cocker?
  5. It is a big thread but its all good info:thumbup1:
  6. Lets not start the whole qualifications debate again mate. There are already threads on here about working without cs41 etc. If you are about to do the other qualifications then cool, keep your qualifications page.
  7. Just thought it was a bit cheeky asking for help then being sarcastic to those who tried to help thats all mate. If you're happy then I'm happy:biggrin: Dont think he's playing dumb though mate.
  8. You misunderstand my post mate. That was a genuine piece of advice for Hamadryad. Yeh the save the rainforest bit was an exaggeration but I think for someone with his passion for what he does, commercial arb is never going to make him happy. Maybe he cant save the rainforests but there must be loads of companies or even charities out there that need people who actually want to make a difference. I'm quite a blunt, straight to the point kind of guy mate so if my posts seem blunt and to the point, thats just me. Hows the leg by the way?
  9. Not a joke mate, you actually need to do it!!!
  10. You are in no position to be sarcastic. The lads are trying to work out stuff for you that you yourself, cant work out. Yeh there has been some confusion and a few wrong answers but if you were clever enough to work it out, you wouldn't be asking for us lot to sort out the answers for you. You gave your estimate at the start of the thread and I dont think anyone else has been that wrong! If you can work it out yourself, enlighten us, what are all the forces involved with a swing from a branch?
  11. Nice quote but doesn't really reflect what commercial arb is about does it. If you really want to make a difference go and help save the rain forests or something. Very few of us on here want to hack a tree when it could be done another way but equally not many have customers who would appreciate the extra effort. If you dont like it get out of arb, getting a degree will not make you happy. As a t/o or consultant you will spend your days telling people if they can or cant hack bits off their trees, not much more than that. You seem to want to make some kind of grand contribution to the Arb world. You cant do that round here. Like I said go and save the rainforests or venture off somwhere to discover something new.
  12. If you cant even remember which tickets you have it must be time to update them anyway.
  13. Any business at all can survive on 100 customers a year? He cant literally mean any business can he!
  14. Look at the wee chipper thread mate. I would say go for the one who's dealer is closer to you.
  15. Good advice about the lack of quals. Spikey, your site is a 'Do at home' free template job as well. Much better imo getting a proper site running off proper css and html by a web designer.
  16. Looks to me like that was your first one cos no other bugger wanted to do it. Not cool. Good on you though, got it down.
  17. Wouldn't list your qualifications as all that does is show that you dont have the ones you should have, to offer the services you offer. You aren't in a position to do half the stuff on your services page with just 31, 38 and 39. Not having a go, just saying dont have a quals page if you dont have the quals.
  18. Thats a link njc110381 is going to love, mogs and chip boilers:biggrin:
  19. No problem mate. Your 'back on thread' points are all good ones. Do you still do gardening/ landscaping or have you moved away from that to concentrate on tree work now? Think reminding customers of who you are and what you do is even more effective when you essentially cover more than one industry.
  20. No worries mate. I wasn't trying to turn this tread into a njc110381 good or bad debate. Haven't got a problem with the bloke personally it just seemed that what he was saying was a bit rich given other stuff he has posted. Nothing more nothing less. Like you I started landscaping then taking on bigger tree jobs as I got qualified and experienced. As i've said I've got no problem with gardeners or landscapers I just dont think not knowing what quals you are supposed to have is a good excuse for not having them. I found out easily enough (before Arbtalk) and so did you and many others. I have already given my advice to njc110381 in another thread and would happily give any advice he wanted.
  21. I was considering his comments already discussed on his 'new to the forum' Thread mate.
  22. As I said your experience with leaflets is quite interesting. Go get that council job then mate:thumbup:
  23. Look at his 'new to the forum' thread where he tells us he owns a 200t which he uses from a ladder mate. That was what I was referring to. He owns a 200t and does tree work and doesn't even know what qualifications he is supposed to have. Do you now see why I took exception to him having an opinion on businesses who cut corners? Apology accepted mate. I am not one of those who thinks gardeners and landscapers cant do good tree work.
  24. Ben, You completely missed my point. I have no problem with landscapers and gardeners doing tree work if they do a good job and are qualified to do it. I was commenting on a post from someone having an opinion on businesses who cut corners when he is a self confessed corner cutter. I started landscaping and gardening before I started tree work so can I respectfully request you get your facts straight and understand my posts before you go off 'Half cocked'.
  25. Plippy, what you need to do is find the Architect, dig a hole and plant him head first in it. See how he likes it.
