yeah exempt at the moment till next year or 2014 i think when i looked into it. but if just carrying logs and woodchip, as they are 'products' then will be exempt anyway?

just been going on the look of ones i have seen really. whats the dimensions of the tipper box? Do you have some pics? I love seeing peoples set ups. Can you overload it with firewood? I am looking at the option of being able to carry maximum load for the axle/tryes off the public highway. 2 tonne?

Most farmers will have it off you and garden centres, you should never pay for getting rid of it!! Don't need to bother with carriers licence too then. You can pay me to have it off you though lol :-p

Can't afford to buy one really and want to build one myself as will have it how i want it and know its done properly. Love land rovers as easy to build your own. Will prob all be full galvansied new parts and have a spare 300tdi engine too. Just need a workshop first... lol

not sure what is up with it really and local land rover garage dont know either. Full adjustment with cable and bottom screw I was getting no handbrake. Had to put all the spacers in so the new pads hit the drum. maybe its off another model/different year?

drum on my 110 is slightly warped and worn. Someone prob used it as a main break at some point!! Get yours skimmed if you can as is costly for new drum. I have had to shorten my handbrake cable with spacers to get any adjustment out of it and had to put spacers under the break shoe seats just so it allows me enough adjustment for the shoes to touch the inside of the drum :-/

thinking of building a 130 tipper for work, 110 tipper to me seems a bit small as want tool chest behind cab for tools. 4x4 tipper would be so useful for us now for lots of jobs. Having a vehicle with winch and offroad tyres on full time is also needed and don't want to do that to my 110.

It is true that most stem failures in trees occur at that sort of 2-3m height (depends on height of tree) but I think with felling it doesn't really matter that much depending on the type of fell plus crown weight/distribution. You was fine cutting that gob where you was on that tree tom but it is something to think about, will have to ask paul about it. Its true, not a great position to be cutting in too but your are tall! lol.

Really nice pics, looks like you have done some great jobs there. Looks like a professional and good set up you have. Yeah dont you have alot of chip runs with a vehicle like that? We struggle with a 5.2t iveco lol. Pic 3, just noticed shock loading on a krab :-/ -
yeah dont buy a handle, way over priced. just get a bit of tubing from the scrapy.

its a climbing line mate, cheap and cheerful though. I have the xtc 24 strand for climbing. Ok but not wearing very well. Personally would stay clear of yale stuff now.

Took 2 of us about 20 days. Problems with poor weather and short days in winter didn't help. Lots of tidying up around base of each tree afterwards. Took it easy and enjoyed the work really :-) Throwline is connected to the metal weight on the end. Bolt slots in and falls out when reaches the top of the tree.

Thats my brother in that pic, he likes a few more gizmos than me lol. Thing is with no groundy we had to take everything we thought we might need with us. Extra slings for redirects, fig 8 for big descents if needed and cam saver of course. We also took an extra ground line up with us. We climbed up and put our top anchor in with not much gear on (no saw etc.) then hoisted up the heavy kit with the extra line. Saved a bit of effort.

It was at a farm up in Yorkshire, old estate really. Used to be a big grand house there but now knocked down. Not sure on the grant really as client sorted it out. Was part of farm grants for improvements around farm, also to do with restoring ancient and historic features. Took some trees down around old ice house too.

Yeah good idea on the fishing line and reel under the bow. Next modification i think. Also can experiment with different weights then too. Yeah it was a bit of fun more than anything but it did work very well. Not many people can say they take a crossbow to work with them lol.

Having not the best throwline skills and getting very fustrated on many a go, we made a new bit of kit for the job. Using an old crossbow my brother made a metal weight to fit to the end of the bolts, attach the line and fire away. Worked well when got the hang of it and would reach about 15m up which was not that bad. Problem is it only weights about 6oz so as to get the height but the weight is a bit light to pull the line down the other side! Used it on a job where we were deadwooding loads of trees, so up and down all day. You do have to stay clear of the falling bolt so not best used in Mr Jones's garden! lol. Sights on the crossbow worked well and got the vee I was aiming at most of the time. Saves having to spend on a big shot for the time being!!

Yeh was a great job, just me and my brother camping and working up there. Crossbow is my brothers invention, nice way of getting the throwline up Trees formed the main avenue to the grand estate many years ago, got a grant to restore it. Also new fencing put in under trees, didn't want any large dead branches falling on it! Weather for the most part was ok seen as it was mid winter!
