  1. Stanley then, but be prepared to rip off that handle in time and bodge yourself a nice fence wire one.
  2. Get the Stanley if you want the handle to keep coming off mid-pour. Get the other one if you want it to fall to bits in the van. Get a kelly kettle or a jetboil if you want a proper brew. Be lucky
  3. One man on the dray-poking poles and one or more with a twelve-bore on a wet afternoon. Humane, quick, highly effective. Beats trapping any day.
  4. There's a very comprehensive set of tables and charts and other euro stuff here. Most of it is beyond the average punter, who just wants a decent load of quality logs at the right price. Warning link is four meg download - good reading for the anal log-counters and stackers among us
  5. Yeah Paul. Nice and solid. No poncy firebricks or girly rope to fiddle about with. Adjustments made with lump hammer and welding rods. Seems to be a cult following.....
  6. Have a look at Dowling stoves. They take big logs, and are bomb-proof.
  7. It’s 100 years old and destined to be axed, but now Belfast residents have vowed to save majestic beech tree - Environment, News - Belfasttelegraph.co.uk
  8. Altbergs are great. Can be a bit tricky to find soles for repairing unless you use the factory, which is expensive. But they will make you boots to fit (for a price) and they're super-comfy. I wear my Meindl Woodwalkers every day - don't really notice they're chainsaw boots any more.
  9. Nib, the new Bedlington, springs into action. Only ten weeks old and already causing mayhem.
  10. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qNv5FhFI3sU]Rake making, a lost tradition by Stuart King - YouTube[/ame] For when you've got a few minutes to spare....
  11. Totally unscientific analysis would suggest tree world is dominated by the mighty dog. Cats? Pfff. Maybe this will help flush them from the woodwork?
  12. Chris I emailed the guy last night for a laugh (I need to get out more) Me: What makes your saw left-handed, mate? Him: Starter cord is on the other side. I kid you not. Tom
  13. Two year old Border Lakeland "Jack" keeps me amused. Faithful fellow.
  14. Cannon are strong and reliable. Get what you pay for...
  15. Hi Bateson tippers are solid. Good company to deal with.
  16. I've got a Dowling and it's great. Adds a nicely industrial feel to the living space, and is a very efficient burner. There's nothing to go wrong, really. Steve will build you whatever size you want.
  17. Hi How about a turf stripper? HSS Hire - Turf Cutter Hire and Rent Regards Tom
  18. Ehem I take it that's a "No" then lads?
  19. Wow. I was only asking...
  20. Got a few saws need help with in North Yorks. Wondered if there was a local Spudulike-type saw doctor on here who would do a good job? I'm fed up with dealers: long delays; over-priced; patronising mechanics. Husky 272 XP to tune up; 066 to fathom; MS180 refurb. Cheers.
  21. Hi Jimbob I may have some larch available - suitable for firewood if that's what you're after. 07787 176 242. Tom
  22. Thanks Steve - great kit but a bit out of my price range.
  23. Wonder if anyone has an M7 for sale. I'm looking to start milling a load of larch this summer. Thanks Tom
  24. We have a small Dowling and its great. They do a 80kw "Wedge" which looks like the d's bees. NEW STOVES & DEVELOPMENTS FOR 2010
