  1. Looking at taking the original body off a pickup and building a custom one. Straight forward enough but I wondered about the electrics - is it just the case of buying a led light board for example and wiring it up? My first thoughts are it seems logical enough to just remove a bulb/wire at a time and connect/solder up to the corresponding wire on the light board. Is there any easier/quicker/better way? Any thoughts?
  2. A potato fork is also a good one.
  3. Sounds like it could work well then. It would be an awesome set up for grinding out stumps in pavements ready for replanting. I was looking at getting an auger unit to go on a kubota u25. Can I ask how much the drive unit was?
  4. 10hp per ton is often mentioned when it comes to towing. So maybe 120hp+ for a ten ton trailer.
  5. I wonder more about the flow rate than down force. They have a small 'corkscrew' at the tip that helps pull the plane in. It is definitely the torque that will be the issue. On the 4cx it seemed effortless but obviously it's got quite a bit more grunt.
  6. I'd be interested to hear as well. I've seen one used on a 4cx and it was pretty impressive (but it was a demo and was on some choice stumps).
  7. Not to piss on your chips but I think you might have a tough time on this. I went to quite a few auctions and found there were lots of ex lease (lex mainly) stuff being sold. Loads of double cab hilux's, ranger's, etc. Nearly all was 5 years and about 50-60k miles. Decent condition and service history. Cheapest I ever saw was a basic model ranger which went for £6500+VAT. The majority were £8.5-10k plus VAT. Bought by, what I anticipate to be, car dealers (they bought several cars each). Most lease vehicles are 3-5 years old when they go to auction.
  8. Nice one. Thanks.
  9. Solved! That works. I could barely see the magnifier (colour blindness might not help). As a item for the developer, perhaps button could be made white?
  10. Did you order directly from Load handler USA?
  11. Is there any update on this? I've been keeping an eye out for ages for my L200.
  12. Recently downloaded the arbtalk app but can't get the search to work? Is this a known problem? Android version 5 (on a Samsung s5).
  13. I have a vent axia heat recovery unit inside a (previously refrigerator) 20ft shipping container. It replaces the entire volume of the container three times an hour and recovers around 80% of the heat (in the 40-45c range). I would suggest something similar. I cannot ever see a dehumidifier being able to cope and just venting will lose so much energy.
  14. Definitely break it up for a better price. Will just take longer.
  15. I switched from cable to rope on a front mount winch. Advantage is its nice on the hands (no more barbs to get you!), it floats if you recover from water a lot and doesn't get damaged on spooling back in (despite being as careful as possible with steel cable). The downside was I found it was hard to pull out by hand. It would often bite against itself and need a huge amount of yanking or reversing the vehicle to get out. Not good in a recovery situation. Still in two minds about which I prefer.
  16. Spooky - I must have been typing that at the same time as you!
  17. I saw the attached advertised a while back and bookmarked it. Not sure what's involved but it's a bargain if true and legit. Would unleash the hilux's full workhorse potential. http://www.cheshirecontracting.com/Vehicles.html
  18. Got to love that kind of dealer - sometimes you can't give you money away! I appreciate they get the run around sometimes but that's part of doing business.
  19. Wasn't aware of this. Does the bonnet vent mean there is an intercooler?
  20. Sorry, not to hijack your thread spandit! As you are planning, go have a few test drives. Seems like you have a decent budget so should have your pick of hiluxs, rangers, L200 and navarras.
  21. I have a L200 currently (older shape 2005) and really like it except for fuel consumption, which is dire. Agree the ranger can be a bit bouncy but I generally don't drive around unladen. Most pickups are a bit light on the backend and so can be a bit lively if you have no cargo. I have a pallet with 10 bags of ballast that I put in when I am just driving about or towing.
  22. I have been with arborisk for a few years and they are great. Had a big (£10k+) claim and it was smooth and simple.
  23. I used the same model for 3 years as a work truck and it's was perfectly sufficient. The 2.5 is ok performance wise. You can push it to 80 but it'll sit comfortably at 70. Decent for towing up to 2.5t. I'm 6'3 and found it comfortable. I am still a hilux fan but in my experience they are no better than the competition yet more expensive. Best value for money in my opinion is the ranger. £7k will get a a good 3lt wildtrac.
  24. I think it will depend on what you want it to do in terms of tree work. If it's dragging large limbs whole and you have space then a compact tractor or skidsteer sounds great. If small is tight and you will mainly be moving rings about then the mini skid steer could work or even something like a muck truck with the arb trolley.
