  1. Did you buy the tr75 in the end then? If so how are you getting on with it?
  2. Is the smaller 70/75 any good or is it worth sticking to the 110? I only have a 37hp alpine so anticipate not being able to run the larger machine.
  3. They look interesting but no, I've not used one personally. I am not sure if there is a significant market personally. The logs are pretty small for firewood and too large for kindling. You might sell a few but it's going to be hard to make much from it on I my opinion.
  4. It'll be well seasoned...
  5. Thanks, good info. I did see a load at the hewden auctions.
  6. Hello, moving to a new site in a bit and will need to change from an electric forklift to a diesel. Quite of bit of ground is rough -not muddy, just compacted scalping etc so I'm looking at some options. Also looking to increase my lift from 1.5 to 2.5 to handle some bigger items. The jcb 926 keeps coming up. Any views on them? Suggestions on alternatives? Have a budget of £5-7k ex VAT so hopefully a bit of choice.
  7. Not from a legal perspective, as per your question. There are still lots of firms that meet the criteria. Most medium tree firms would be able to able for most Local Authority Contracts. It would be acceptable 'due diligence' and accountability. It can be frustrating as a small operator just starting out but that's business. All industries have barriers to entry. Keep growing till you fit the criteria. Concentrate on domestic and private commercial in the meantime.
  8. Councils have a whole list of criteria for becoming a term contractor and as someone said, they can afford to be picky. The tender process is supposed to discriminatory to a certain extent, or else everyone would get the contract... They will look at length of time established, number of employees, financial tests (you generally need to turnover twice what you are bidding for ie £300k for a £150k contract), policies and procedures, CHAS and so on.
  9. I doubt there is an ideal as every business varies. The difficult item to factor to in is you - do you take a full salary, Salary to the income tax threshold, dividends, etc. The larger your organisation the less important the accuracy of this but if you are a 3 man set up it will clearly have a big impact.
  10. I agreed. A reasonable charge for packaging, someones time for packaging and them sending you some bits. Perhaps a standard post option for small items you can get in a envelope, brake bands, springs, etc would be possible.
  11. I don't refer to mine as emergency call outs, just 'urgent' and stipulate it means we can complete it within 24 hours. I'd charge a lot more if expect to drop everything and run.
  12. I'd charge 50% on top of your standard charge for call out with a minimum charge (£90 is mine).
  13. It would be an excellent addition. I have said for years that what was needed. Having to email your local supplier and request prices for parts, they then have to look it up and reply. You then reply again to purchase. You could cut two of those steps and quite a bit of time out of it.
  14. I have been registered with BSL from the beginning and not sold a single log because of/via it. It's all just regular sales, no customers have ever mentioned it. Seems like a waste of time for me.
  15. That's pretty terrible for a £1k saw. Did go back to Stihl with it? I'd be pretty disappointed.
  16. Unbolt the ramp and turn the chipper around! And you're ready to go. Must be able to get a decent 3 year old one for £1k.
  17. I don't know of any specifically but you could modify a ifor gd84 pretty easily. 1.25cm internal width, 2.5 length.
  18. I think you are right. You can have dual tanks but the 'red one' can't be connected to the engine used to propel the vehicle.
  19. I think that was what ended the concorde. I think it was actually the impact of the tyre hitting the tanks in the wing that caused a pressure build up which burst seams elsewhere in the tank causing fires etc. Could he wrong, just what I remember of it.
  20. Jinxed myself. Proper frost this morning!
  21. The bucket at the end reminds me of terminator 2 thumbs up! https://media.giphy.com/media/gFwZfXIqD0eNW/giphy.gif
  22. Not good for us logs guys but could be worse - you could sell de-icer!
  23. I have the 900mm one and would highly recommend them. Cheap enough to have 2 or 3. http://www.spyrabase.co.uk/category.php?categoryID=1903 You don't need the driver. A scaffold bar will do it.
  24. I've not had to scrape the windscreen yet this winter and don't see it happening. Warm and wet in the home counties. Based purely on my non - meteorological experience!
