  1. I suppose it depends if you have neighbours and how sensitive they are?
  2. thanks for that Gary, very interesting. Will shape how we manage some of our risk zones and tree surveys for the future.
  3. Says there was root decay that was missed. It also says the 3 yearly inspection cycle was flawed, but doing 2 surveys 11 and 8 years ago and nothing since then is asking for trouble. The experience over qualifications is valid as you say and can be adequate a lot of the time, i suppose it depends who judges the cases when things go wrong. I would only expect that arbs should know their limitations and speak to someone who does know when they are unsure. (I suppose thats a big section of this place!) Tree Inspection Frequency case law 2017.pdf
  4. You have to prove competence if it went tits up, would you want to stand by chainsaw tickets as proof of competence for tree surveys? There was a recent court ruling that's said a tree surgeon with no technical qualifications who carried out a survey wasn't competent. It found the council who employed him negligent. It also said trees in high risk areas i.e. Roads should be surveyed every 18 months. Big implications for us at a housing trust with thousands of trees.
  5. The council and more importantly, TO's, are there to help you the vast majority of the time. Get talking to them, get them on a site visit to put a face to a name and they will help you in the future. I get TPO tree work recommendations from a TO as he knows the work gets done to a good standard.
  6. £60 for these bigger ones. 32" at one end, 24" at the other and they are 9'6" long. Will be going in to get kiln dried at the end of the week.
  7. Professional membership is on my list in the very near future so will be sorting that!
  8. The show was well laid out with a good mix of pitch sizes spread around so it didn't leave the small ones out the way. Definitely noticed the lack of arb suppliers this year which was a bit disappointing. As the range of kit held between all of them usually made a good show with good choice. My only criticism is that when I asked for 2 days tickets on the first day, I was given 2 and paid for 2, they wouldn't let me back in the second day with the second ticket. An error by the staff on the gate I was penalised for!
  9. Piece in the picture is 34" wide and 10' long. Tapers down a bit but good for over 30" on most of it
  10. Good to see you again Paul. We are nearly back home now. Had a go at the throw bag but only got 1 hole. So close to the others. If only the holes were bigger [emoji1]
  11. 25l nets are what I see often at petrol stations
  12. Got redwood here in a mix of sizes. Got some larger bits to mill yet so got pieces at the dimensions you are after
  13. we run one at our yard, and since we have the logs coming in, it is almost free heat, solar panels have also been put in with batteries so we actually store and use what is generated, for a farm that has a few businesses running out of it, it genuinely reduces the carbon footprint and does make good use of the RHI scheme, we installed in 2014. Due to my dads relationship with sea forth docks, he is working with Peel ports to install a biomass system, they have literally tons of waste wood from steel and various other shipments, that they are paying veolia big bucks to haul away, there will be a boiler going to heat the straddle crane workshop, massive shed and none of the wood will have to be carted big distances (not including those on the ships!). Saves a massive carbon footprint of lorry miles hauling scrap timber away. The RHI, as discussed, was lucrative to start off with and I've seen a few big installs where heat is almost wasted just to generate, its a shame they made it so easy to exploit! Although if they had kept it tightly regulated at the start it wouldn't have 'snowballed' like it has.
  14. Looks more like it's a climbing plant flowering maybe?
  15. I wanted to be there on the Saturday too but had a friends stag do! Catch you at the next meet up Silky!
  16. Any pics? Might be able to nip over if they aren't too horrid! Pine could be good for the bark more than anything.
  17. I'm also after a decent chunk for carving into a postbox. 12" wide and 18" tall ish. Anything like that I'm a bit short on at my pile! Most of it has been shortened and split!
  18. Whoops, maidstone. Typo on that one.
  19. This is true. I believe Russel Horsey (ex Bristol TO) was investigating this and removing a lot of 30 ish year old planes for that reason. They were just randomly dropping large sections. All around public spaces.
