  12. Hi, Definitely not a good time to do any work on veterans, consider waiting until jan, Feb. next year. Do nothing if possible, but if you must prune, prune in stages. Oaks respond fairly well as veterans. Just a few thoughts.

    Arbour?

There,s a firm around Brizzle called Arboreal Tree Services, I wonder If they actually do live in trees!
  19. Hi, My short comment last night was not too helpful, sorry. My thoughts, for what their worth. I assume the aim is to veteranise the tree and thus create as many niche habitats, dead wood, saproxylic material etc. as possible, and that is a laudable project, however is it sensible to veteranise a tree as close to so many potential targets? I,m not sure, but would be interested to know of other peoples experience regarding this. I,m sure the practical work undertaken is of high quality given the parameters of the spec. Cheers
  20. For gods sake that is awful...dignity mun.
  21. Fell it or leave it alone , you cannot, should not reduce pines, it,s a travesty mun.
  22. Hi, As I understand it, the roots are totally dependant on the products of photosynthesis for food, so there may be an initial effect due to lack of food, but this is short lived as the subsequent regrowth has larger leaves and therefore transpiration and photosynthesis rate increases.
  23. Hi, I,ve read somewhere that there are a number of distinct clones of Plane dating back to the 18th C. P.X acerifolia Augustine Henry has a very straight trunk up to 6m ish and the Baobob plane which probably carries a virus, there are a number of others but with no name or the name has been lost. Queens square in Bristol has many fine Planes dating from the late 18th C. and the variation in growth patterns are quite pronounced.
  24. Woodland Management by Chris Starr, recommended, and accessable.
  25. Isn,t there a clone called a baobob plane which exhibits a swollen base and twisted branches?
