  6. i used my gomtaro 270 (8 teeth per inch) today to reduce and thin an oak. most cuts were about around 2 inch diameter but some were as much as 4 inch. done the whole lot with the gomtaro, took allday but my arms feel no more fatigue than you'd expect from a good climb. nice saw, versitile and easy to use.
  7. i'm pretty sure thats the forstal road one i mentioned earlier, i always believed it to be aylesford but the map suggests it comes under forstal. pretty amazing looking trees!
  8. if you are ever driving along forstal road, forstal near maidstone, have a look at the planes along the side of the road and the edge of the playing fields. as i remember these are some quite large examples. will try and get some pics next time i'm over that way. someone told me it was caused by the tree healing from previous wounds and just not knowing when to stop, is this also true?

i have a gomtaro 300 allready so the sugoi would be purely for larger limbs. those of you with the sugoi what size do you have and what would you say is a maximum comfortable diameter to cut with it?

thanks everyone for your replies. has given me plenty of food for thought. looking at the sugoi 420, and the felco loppers( particualy the 200a60 and 210a60), also the silky katana caught my eye but at the prices i've found for it i might as well buy a small ground saw!

got silky but thinking of bowsaw for slightly larger stuff as an 020 is a little out of my price range at the moment. will have a look at the felco range, cheers for the advice so far joe and swb:001_smile:

Hi all, i want to get some decent hand tools ie bowsaw, loppers, pruners but need some advice on what brands to look for. I would sooner pay out for something decent thats going to last than "buy cheap buy twice"! any advice apreciated, thanks
  21. The "mobile polar clinic" had proved an instant success
  22. nice to see the use of ear defenders there, you can never be too careful:scared1:
  23. very nice mate:thumbup1:
  24. looks like a good contender for norway maple (acer platanoides)
  25. not tryin to knock your mechanic friend but have you tried filling the engine back up with oil then starting it. if the knocking stops then it is more than likely just an oil leak and could be as simple as a split hose, perished sump gasket, loose sump nut etc. loosing all the oil from your engine will cause it to knock. would hate for you to have to spend out all that money for the sake of a two a penny part. hope this is of some help.
