  4. the sirius looks a good concept, very nice but after a more conventional design. thanks bob. i'm more just wandering if there is anything i have overlooked as when choosing climbing ropes there are alot of factors to consider but not so much to consider with a friction saver if you know what i mean. would the stein be a reasonable choice? Thanks
  5. hi eveyone, just looking for a bit of advice on cambium savers. I've had my eye on steins one but know there are a few other makes on the market and wondered if there is any real diference in them? any advice appreciated cheers Dave
  6. perfect, just one more thing to finish it off...............get back to the job and work it out your system:001_tt2:
  7. i've seen an 020 go through a pair of stihl hiflex type c. the cut was about 2 1/2 inchs wide and needed 11 stitches! we should all remember that no amount of ppe is a substitute for good practice.
  8. root damage or residents sick of leaves on their drives:sneaky2: very nice job:001_smile: looked like great fun but allways a shame to see such a grand old tree leveled. looking forwad to seeing the action shots:thumbup:
  9. nice link Ian:thumbup1: does anyone remember the old 'sure' advert where body painted people blended in with trees?
  10. cheers for keeping us all aware. hope the neck heals quick.
  11. wow that looks like a survivor! i had no idea alders grew so big.
  12. ah, i remember seeing this one. made me cringe!
  13. very sad, thoughts to the family.
  14. cheers Jonsie, the kids will love that:001_smile:if they get a go:sneaky2: merry christmas:biggrin:
  15. i used my gomtaro 270 (8 teeth per inch) today to reduce and thin an oak. most cuts were about around 2 inch diameter but some were as much as 4 inch. done the whole lot with the gomtaro, took allday but my arms feel no more fatigue than you'd expect from a good climb. nice saw, versitile and easy to use.
  16. i'm pretty sure thats the forstal road one i mentioned earlier, i always believed it to be aylesford but the map suggests it comes under forstal. pretty amazing looking trees!
  17. if you are ever driving along forstal road, forstal near maidstone, have a look at the planes along the side of the road and the edge of the playing fields. as i remember these are some quite large examples. will try and get some pics next time i'm over that way. someone told me it was caused by the tree healing from previous wounds and just not knowing when to stop, is this also true?

i have a gomtaro 300 allready so the sugoi would be purely for larger limbs. those of you with the sugoi what size do you have and what would you say is a maximum comfortable diameter to cut with it?

thanks everyone for your replies. has given me plenty of food for thought. looking at the sugoi 420, and the felco loppers( particualy the 200a60 and 210a60), also the silky katana caught my eye but at the prices i've found for it i might as well buy a small ground saw!
