  1. I brought one a few months and have found a lot of uses for the planks.I hopefully got a job coming up for £900 worth of planks. It takes a little practise to get the planks smooth. Rob sells ripping chains as well.
  2. these guys sell them The Woodsmith's Store: Spliting Axes and Wedges - Green Woodworking Tools - Green Woodworking Accessories
  3. I use a oil drum, wrap rockwool or loft insulation with wire it makes it 20% more efficient. Five, inch wide holes in the base. Deep bed of sand and 4 bricks underneath the oil drum so when you shut off it's air tight. Load the oil drum half way fill the other half with kindling and newspaper and light. When the fire is raging fill the other half with wood. After about a hour or so ( depends on wood, wind and moisture). After a hour use a sheet of steel on top with a gap to let out smoke. Fill gaps with sand around the bottom where the brick are leaving a 6 inch gap to let the air draw up. When the smoke starts to turn blue pull bricks out so that it sits on the sand. Shut lid, the tar will seal the lid which stops the smoke coming out. Put bricks on lid. Takes about 3 hours to cool down , I leave it over night. Takes about 3 too 5 hours till shut down. Use welding gloves. Got it right after a couple of turns.
  4. I found that the hard way. Not nice taking a Granfors out of your shin.
  5. Make a wooden box with bottom the same size as the bag. Fill box with logs put bag over the top all the way down, then turn over. Hey presto bag of logs.
  6. I cut above the swell, then cut the stump as low as i can get. I find this helps when needing to use a tracor in the woods.
  7. should of said the rat was a freebie
  8. ' tis true, but it's not releasing carbon that has been locked for the last million plus years.
  9. nice, should able to get plenty of cornflakes in that.
  10. Most likely not. Might help to have a look at the serial numbers, if they haven't been filed off. Might able to track the original owner.
  11. Want, no, need one.
  12. Sorry misread your post. Thought it said "what's that then?".
  13. why not give Sussex police a bell?
  14. As we get more environmentally friendly and the price of fossil fuels become harder to produce more and people will turn to a more sustainable source of energy. Well I hope so 'cos my woodland management plan involves growing Ash coppice instead of conifer plantation. Ash grows really well there.
  15. tatos Potatoes
  16. if you sell to the right person £60 plus
  17. Your right! These countries know there stuff and part of the culture is woodland. Most of my tools come from these countries. We seemed to of had a break in woodland work in the last 60 years and it's only starting to pick again now. At least the weather is getting colder now at least they will be burning more wood.
  18. have you tried advertising on Environmentally Friendly Free Classified Ads
  19. that picture has been doing the rounds. It is a nice bit of tinkering with the picture.
  20. Thanks guys! Yeah I thought 3cm thickness was being too tight I'll price for 5cm thickness. Just had a look a maximum width of a wheelchair and it looks to be about 66cm. So 120cm seems to be a good width. I'll asked if they need planks for passing points.
  21. nice to see I'm not the only one who lets their dogs on the sofa.
  22. A Forest school runs in my woods and they need wheelchair access. So they have asked my me to mill enough planks for 50 meters to make a path into the camp area. I'm going to use the Scots pine which is already there. Each plank is going to between 46cm and 60cm wide. I was thinking that 3cm should be thick enough. The path will be 2 planks wide. So the question is 100m x46cm x 3cm of Scots Pine planked, how much should I charged?
  23. I thought you could almost what you like on farm land. I would sit tight and see happens. Each council seems to interpret planning laws differently. Has it changed the use of land?
  24. Watched it on iplayer last night. BBC iPlayer - Countryfile: 22/11/2009 It was just saying that burning wood ties in with woodland management for flora and fauna. What it didn't say was dead wood in the woodland was also good for ecology. They seem to have the idea that taking the dead wood was good.
  25. Almost forgot BTCV - Home
