  4. Out again, we were asked if we could supply the mill to Shuttleworth College Shuttleworth College Home to both mill timber, to give the students the chance to see timber being milled and to have some hands on experience ! with some trepidation re. the latter we set up for the day and supplied with long lengths of freshly felled Ash we tried to find a happy medium between getting timber milled and giving some of the students a go with the mill a few pictures of produce and production! A few lessons learnt for next time but over all a productive day good to see quite a number of both male and female ‘operators’ , we had as much interest from staff during the day as students with one milling his own Yew boards, incredible colours and figuring , I hope all enjoyed the day it will be interesting to see some of the construction resulting from timber produced and we look forward to next time. p.s. thanks for the food!
  5. good luck I hope it lives, I guess a little watering to help establishment will give it a better chance, mulch over the top and some sturdy guying to keep it upright, again good luck

  10. if you use the 'search' at the top of the page there is quite a lot of info here already, can be a bit tight for space for winches on 3 point linkage
  11. Although we have a big one, 14 – 800 I would say the build quality throughout the whole range of Hiezohack is good we looked at a few different builds before buying, good points in favour of the hiezohack is the style of multiple small blades and holder using a reasonably priced small blades instead of a big expensive one, this is very important especially when grab feeding or chipping ? material that may be contaminated with blunting additives! They will also continue chipping when fairly blunt, better with sharp blades but useful when you just want to finish a job and get home, although the chip quality is not so good with blunt blades. Screen size already mentioned but the through put with the bigger screen size is very impressive, site clearance situation, if it is for fuelwood production then you will have to choose the size to suit market. Speak to Alex or Stan here AC Price Engineering - Home both have good knowledge of the range and are dealers for Heizohack in this country, go see 1 working I think you will be impressed good luck

  21. Oak Tree with chain brace
  22. I had to look it up !! there were an unusual amount of walnut trees, whilst on site I found no guide to the tree planting , below a couple of copy and paste found since. ''In 1987 a collection of walnuts was started that are now mainly planted in the pleasure grounds and contains over 60 species. New varieties are constantly added, recently a collection of Juglans regia form America.'' ''Brief history of siteThe gardens at Wimpole have a history of Walnut planting with Kip's engraving of 1709 showing the avenue planted with regia, nigra and cinerea.'' ''We were walked round the National Collection of walnuts, and it was amazing to see thedifferent shape and size trees that this encompasses. As he described the characteristics of the different walnuts, Philip Whaites referred occasionally to Clive Simms and his book the ‘Nutshell Book to Growing Walnuts’' ''There was also an orchard with many varieties of apple. Unfortunately I didn’t know that a National Walnut Collection is also at Wimpole, should have paid more attention before I went. Still always good to have another reason to visit!.'' one for the diary perhaps 'Event - Wimpole Hall Wimpole Hall (NT) - National collection of walnut trees (& others). Guided tour with Phillip Whaites, Head Gardener. Date/Time: 03/10/2013- 14:00' agg221 your daughter can be excused the farm and animals are a brilliant place to discover! for both adults and children you need a t least a full day there before even going out into the parkland, then you can start exploring some veteran trees, I understand mature elm were the main spp. with a massive avenue to the south, big enough for the American air force to park / hide their planes under the Elm Trees, unfortunately I could find no pictures of this, I will have to return, I understand there is a green wood working show there this week end http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/wimpole-estate/things-to-see-and-do/events/
  23. Actively managed with haloing, coronet cuts some old bracing done with chain! Still evident trapped inside wound growth
