  1. Well, if your giving them away! Just park it on the driveway whenver is convenient for you...
  2. You have two chippers you dont need???
  3. I would agree. For a quality product though. I do a very small amount of firewood during the winter. Friends and friends of friends really. All willing to pay that for seasoned hardwood. Thinking about supplying Alder next year.
  4. Amazing!
  5. Good choice SWB! Were you not trying to sell that recently?
  6. Totally off thread. Thats some team you have there, a Patterdale/Toller/Cocker! You must have eyes on the back of your head! Probably some similarity in the breeding but then Openshaw is all over the cockers pedigrees just now. Mine is a potential trial contender but I have never trialled a cocker before, just the springer. Had a litter of cracking Labs this autumn, so should have an awesome picking up team in a couple of years.
  7. I appluad your enthusuiasm. The carbon emmitted from ice is a natural occurance, its just that we are accelerating the temperature increase. In nature the worlds climate completely changes every 28'000 years. I.e. we would have an Austrailian climate by that time. The it slowly changes back over another 28'000 years. Human effects on climate change is creating an added temperature increase on top of the natural one. Without human interference, the carbon emmitted from warming permafrost would be absorbed by another carbon sink elsewhere. Ocean/rainforest/soil etc. It doesnt have to be on the edge of your permafrost. Therefore, we can do our bit to a) reduce our carbon/methane/nitrous oxide/sulphur emissions b) increasing carbon sinks Ice is also a mirror which reflects high energy shortwave UV from the sun. The less we have, the more the land heats up, the more the ice melts.
  8. Whats the history behind the oaks? Pollards for ship building material in years gone by maybe?
  9. A massive minimum breaking strain on that portawrap!
  10. An excellent analogy, but I have to disagree with the fuel price variation. The highland and islands can be 20p /litre more expensive than anywhere. Probably the highest fuel price in the world.
  11. Yes, I do keep first aid up to date. Yes you should carry a kit whenever possible. It might not be you using it, might be someone else using it on you! A bit of personal preference as to what you put in different kits. Look at the St Johns Ambulance website/catalogue its very helpful. Is that your cocker spaniel in the avatar picture? Whats his breeding line. He looks like the carbon copy of mine. Mine is bred by Gareth Davies in Wales, by Ian Openshaws Mallowdale Grand.
  12. I am a big fan of TP chippers. I would be very interested in your review of this machine. Doug Blease
  13. What would your Mycelium fungus be decomposing on the permafrost?
  14. I may have missed it but any idea why its dying back? I like the job, and would love to do more work like this in the future. A score for your local biodiversity and a great educational/interpretative tree for the general public. Well done.
  15. Good point.
  16. A few years ago, when I was more into firewood a level transit load was £140 delivered locally. Does anyone think we should be more consistent as an industry on firewood prices? Prices for that load have ranged from £100 to £240.
  17. Cousin Jack. That horse working is a beautiful sight. Lovely workmanship. Could start a whole new thread just on that.
  18. aaaargh maths!

    Lunch

A load of firewood split, time for cheese on toast for lunch!!
  20. The prices are awful (exchange rates) but good pics and shows what equipment is available on the continent. Agriaffaires : Used Forestry equipment
  21. Googled it. "A full cord is a large amount of wood. It measures 4 feet high by 4 feet wide by eight feet long (4' x 4' x 8') and has a volume of 128 cubic feet." from How much wood is in a cord of firewood?
  22. I used to know when I used to buy beech in cords. I will look through records and get back to you. Unless someone beats me to it.
  23. I did drop them a line last month, and I did get a reply. But the situation is the same. Just wondered if its me or not. Will try again and make sure I am not doing anything wrong. Doug Blease
  24. HI, I was wondering if anyone uses the HB wish list? I have made a couple up but every time I re visit the site it has disappeared and emptied itself. Is this normal? Would be very handy to make one and come back to it time and time again. I didnt want to bother the guys there unless I had to. Doug Blease
