  1. Different from the German films I'm used to as well
  2. Got a lower powered little CO2 rifle if you are worried about your fences
  3. There is stranger breeding down there than that LOL I remembered the cross which produces this super peregrine and it is called a Gyr.
  4. That was the frightening thought LOL I do know the cross you mean, some arabic strain (not a bedouin with a hernia ) if I remember correctly. Saw one in action a couple of years ago at a bird of prey centre in Cornwall and it was impressive!
  5. Which is why the liner itself must be insulated, to maintain the "smoke" at the maximum temperature possible and ensure it takes all the crap out in gaseous form. The liner itself must be balanced to the appliance, not the size of the chimney. Some firms will do a cheaper job by fitting a larger liner than necessary and then not backfilling, but this will lead to the liner being choked up with tar far sooner.
  6. SWB, I just misread that really badly and thought you said penguin
  7. The liner should be insulated when it is installed with vermiculite back fill once the liner and register plate are in place. This should make sure the bulk of the nasties exit as gas and don't choke the flue.
  8. If they tried to oust the in-laws' woodpeckers, I suspect they might get a little tickle from a .177
  9. That's good news, David. Can I send you a few spare mink from down here to help keep you in practice?
  10. Are you trapping or shooting? They are vicious little blighters! I had to fend one off with a bankstick once when I was fishing on the Chelmer.
  11. With regards to ear defenders v ear plugs, it has been shown that sound waves can enter the ear from below the actual ear canal and cause damage. This area is not protected by simple ear plugs unlike ear defenders which cover the whole of the ear, therefore protecting this otherwise exposed area. Looks like a choice between sweaty ears now or "speak up, sonny, I can't hear you" in later life.
  12. If you're stuck for now, I could help you out part/time as I really need some experience.I only have CS30, passed on most of CS31 except the actual fells where the assessor reckons I just need practice so I'm not dangerous to myself or anybody else LOL. I'm in south Essex but don't mind a drive. Only times I can't do are term-times Tuesday and Wednesday mornings due to lectures at uni. If you want to get in touch, you can give me a shout on 07739 556764. If this doesn't help you, good luck with the search anyway. Cheers. Alan
  13. Nice one. Thanks for the information and good luck with it.
  14. Congratulations, you lucky sod! Didn't want anyone else, did they?
  15. CS31 at Writtle this July was standard felling cut, split-level and dog-tooth cuts, 80/20 and letterbox. Felling level taught was as close to the ground as possible to maximise the timber produced, and variations in gob cuts were discussed in connection with when you want the hinge to break ie over obstructions etc. Course was aimed at forestry market but the instructor (Steve Woodley, quality guy) did point this out.
  16. Is that a beard? I thought he was eating a cat!
