  1. Haven't tried a ZZ, looks fine. Love my Sj and Lj and Positioner for that matter. How often do you feel it necessary to untie and retie your prusik during a climb? Not being midline attachable is something to consider based on your work and climbing style. For example if you climb with two ropes and go from one to the other to progress. Can you can get them in hand for a comparison.
  2. I would take a look at the tensioning screw may be worn/stripped. Or the chain is worn and stretched and is also at the limit of the tensioning screw and so once the chain warms up all the tension is lost. All I can think of. I've been there and think it is the latter.
  3. Ok thanks so much for your numbers. So it look likes a loss of 2 hours per month of throw ball inaccuracies. What does that equate to? Approximately 1oo pounds sterling per month or 1000 per year of innaccuracies? Is that about right?
  4. Well, we can agree on the advantages so maybe we can work out the costs of throw balls compared to RopeArmor? This image sums it all up pretty well. My personal numbers as the principle arborist for my biz, add up to a savings/profit of approximately 1 to 2 Thousand dollars per year. I throw and isolate ropes 3 to 4 times per week. I have gained 1 to 3 hours per week plus the extended life of the throwline. RopeArmour is a throw weight device/access system . RopeArmour is much more than just a throw weight; it is six tools in one. We have done our best to improve the classic throw ball and system. An arbclimber who is searching for something different and an improvement can check out the RopeKnight. RopeArmour advantages are quite clear and so add up to wise investment. Please, if you can input your own numbers to quantify the saving/profit of RopeKnight in comparison to traditional throw bags. How many throw bags a year do you use? Is your throwline being retired prematurely, damaged excessively or replaced? How many hours are lost due to snags and jams? How many hours are lost due to throw line snags and jams? How much time and money are you spending replacing or repairing throw bags? How much time and money is lost due to uncooperative throw bags? How much aggravation is your throw ball causing you? Is Life too short for throwing a bag? Another interesting note is I can now trust my groundies to launch it. With instruction and practice I can trust them to BigShot for me. Actual throwing of a RopeKnight takes much more practice. For some the numbers may add up in favour of the RopeKnight and for others the Throw ball. RopeArmour is a task specific multipurpose throw weight device and system that responds and performs Precisely as we ask of it. Smooth, fast, predictable, adaptable, customizable, strong, accurate, higher, further and safer. We guarantee it! Our Guarantee is the only throw weight in the industry offered for a Life Time! Plus we guarantee better performance than the traditional bag.
  5. have enough now for a sheet of plywood.
  6. 11mm for me. the weight and handling is great. For me the grip is in the knuckles of the fist. I need to curl the fingers with rope fit in snuggly and not grip in the palm. I climb bare handed/gloveless and find the cramps or hand fatique not much different than 13mm. Cheets
  7. The Vinyl protective sleeve is what I use more often. It is bright Red and highly visible. Works well to dampen impacts that we find necessary in an urban environment. And adds a nice bit of weight 1.2 oz.
  8. Its not how well you do a job its how well you hide your mistakes. No ones perfect. If you want the pig you'll have to give up your best sausage. Apply it how you will.
  9. Plant what is indeginous and growing on the same rock type. Evergreen or deciduous? I think you will have best luck plugging pockets with soil and planting bare root stock and lots of em. Here in Southern Ontario on limestone outcrops I see eastern White Cedar with Arctostaphylos uva-ursi., juniperus virginiana, Prickly Ash, Aromatic sumac as best choice. Your planting will start off as a Bonsai of sorts and the limiting factor will always be water but over many years with accumulation of organic matter will support larger and more enduring species. Best of Luck.
  10. As an employer I ask if the guys can stay stay late. If they can't we work something out. Same thing in reverse if they ask to go early or take time in the day to clear something up I will try do my best to accomodate. Got a give a little to get a little. I will buy supper if it goes real late or hand over cash to reward efforts. Seems to work well here in Canada.
  11. It does bounce around quite like a Nerf football. Closest thing I can compare it to. Foam protector is for the training colleges, clay tile roof, floats for water, Search and rescue or rookie throwers. It is more visible if you need to follow or retrieve for your TIP. I ahve a video of it bouncing around in a Silver Maple if you would like to see it, I will load it to youtube? Throws nicely out of the hand for a nice touch down throw and drops out of thick crowns well with the added weight. works fine with the BS as well. Personally I have used mine twice. Once over parked cars that could not be moved and another over a greenhouse and both times it was removed because there was no chance of hitting anything because the lower crown would catch the fall. Still for the first few tosses it was a welcome assurance that the soft foam would prevent a Bmr from gettin dinged or calling on my glasing skills. Thanks for the question . Cheers
  12. https://www.facebook.com/pages/RopeArmour/113201298749998?ref=hl I have updated the pics and info here. IF anything is unclear I am pleased to offer up more info.
  13. Thanks for sharing! Brilliant.
  14. I ahve contacted Petzl France and America and it has been more than a week with no reply. Anyone else try to contact them?
  15. Almost all bags/balls are LEAD(Pb) HR included. They won't announce it in catalogues. Don't ask, don't tell. They almost always will specify if the weight component is steel, brass or copper. I think its better that we know than to have it kept a secret.
  16. I am happy to see that they are concerned with Lead being released into the environment. And I congratulate them for their effort. Here is the Petzl recycling program. Recycling the JET throw-bag by Petzl | Petzl On the other hand. What about your personal safe handling of a Lead weighted bag? The internal balloon wears, ruptures and degrades without a visual sign and the Lead is then pulverized and dusts up or oozes from the bag. It is just a balloon after all. Is a recycling program enough? What is your take on this?
  17. For me I imagine the spur is the chisel point and hip-knee to ankle as the handle and when all things are lined up the chisel/spur point drives into the tree. Its all about angles and seems to me hip lanyard and tree and body needs to be at plus or minus 45 degrees. once the angles get further away or to close to close, the chisel looses effect. Cheers
  18. Double ended bullet. What more could you ask for in crown piercing accuracy?
  19. Life is too short to throw an ugly bag How are you gentlemen finding the RopeKnight? Anything new to share? Cheers
  20. I use an eye to eye on a snap about 20" long doubled over.
  21. King Tree Service Send resume to [email protected] Thanks
  22. Mb the body is worn so much so that a new clutch won't close the gap? Is it all the time? Does it happen vertical or approaching horizontal. wet or dry? mb a vid might help or a few pics.
  23. Give it a good wash and lube. Should be goog as new. Thats what I do!
