  1. Good ladder! takes up a seat in the crew cab. Get the bag to store it in, just like the telescoping pole saws it is important to keep them clean and dent and scratch free. Very ahndy for getting on roofs and taking down communication lines etc. Light wt, durable and now that I have it gets used quite often for ascents because it fits in the barrow with most of the gear. It is pricey but I would say in the several months of use it has more than paid for itself. Cheers
  2. WARNING Caution! Keep the tail length to the ball as short as possible to avoid it catching the tailing throwline and always double check your line will pay out freely and the line bag/bucket or Sidewinder is well in front of the shot. As well always uninstall the FASTattach/LONGgun when firing the BIGSHOT Cheers
  3. Over a yr in my Scafell, very comfy and great for climbing. Long day on the iron or on the ground, they are great boots in every respect, traction, comfy, cold or hot wet or dry. I wore a quite a few of a great pair of all leather, hand made boots for over ten yrs and always thought they would be the boots I would be buried in. Technically the Scafell is a superior booot. Only complaint is the notch of rubber at the heel and tool can trip you up but I have found it handy in the tree as a good toe or heel hold at times and on the ground one needs to be aware that it can trip you up. Thats it, I just love em!
  4. Adds 1.2 OZ to the Rk so I slip it on when I need the extra wt to come down thru a messy tree We have one American say that he bounced one of his windshield from on high with no damage. Won't bruise trees, shingles, wood decking etc. And if you get frustrated with your throwing inconsistencies and the one time forget to check that you are standing on the line, the thump on the ol melon will only hurt your pride. Please always before every throw check the Rk is secure and the line will pay out free and easy. Cheers
  5. I need this tool as well. In the past tying a retrieval line to the rigging rope has gotten me in a jam with twisting around the limb or wood and then into the understory. I think the Grapnel would make a good long reach tool and especially with a retractor mechanism. Just throw it out to catch and retrieve the line with out being committed to the rig. Tree Stuff - New Tribe Yella Grapnel
  6. What works for me is to dig out the major roots/flares and cut or chop them out and place a log or stack a few bits of hardwood for an added lever and advantageous fulcrum at the root flare. I really enjoy a good stump out and avoiding the grinder nonsense. Cheers and happy stumping.
  7. about a metre works well for me. the taller you are the greater the lenght can be for the LONGgun technique. I tried SS cable for the longgun and found it worked great until it kinked. A non kinking stiff cord would be the best. The cable did work well at preventing wraps and the added weight was welcome at times. I am working on finding the perfect cord. If any one has something in mind that is stiff like steel cable and won't kink, I woould love to hear about it. Cheers
  8. Aside from salts and water, this works well for me, though it is temporary. In Highschool we played a tournament in northern ontario, 5 games in two days. By the third game I had hamstrings and calfs lock up and was hitting the ground. Coach and mates carried me off the court and an elder 1st nations offered to help. Here is the simple and effect technique. Apply as much force as bearable against the muscle and veins and opposite the flow of blood. What happens is the blood surges back into the muscles and like magic the cramps are unlocked. Btw we lost in the Championship game and was due to and big thanks to the wise elder considering we were ranked last. Cheers
  9. This is what has worked for me for a few yrs. simple i girth hitched some old webbing to the original finger pull and then added the ball made of tape and knotted webbing. I find the ball can be gripped easily by the hand and allows one to focus more intently on the shot. Also I wire stitched in a bit of rubber to grip a slippery when wet or icy RK. I believe the rubber grips and with its maleable and semi-rigid nature is better at propelling the weight than the bit that bit of vinyl Highly recommend these mods for those who like me are looking for improvements. Cheers
  10. for me I am most fond of Juniperus, our Eastern Red Cedar. juniperus virginiana is gorgeous. In the fire, its smokey aroma is absolutely intoxicating.
  11. Best I could come up with to relieve this is to to ball up the finger pull. So you grip a ball rather than tensioning your fingers to high hell. The grip is similar to pulling a rope. I can get you pic if you like. Really it is a just a ball of tape. i also found my most accurate shots are with the 8'pole and shooting off the hip. Bit of an ouchy! for a bit more accuracy:001_huh:
  12. Base the choice on your climb style and the trees and the type of work you do. If you find you move your TiPs alot the LJ is good choice especially if you need to midline connect and disconnect. I use both but definitely prefer the Sj for large canopy work and removals. I have been using both with the Singing Tree RW as well with no complaints and have worked out a good system with out a stiff tether. I will share this in time just need a few more hours to ensure it will not fail. Cheers
  13. We have new idea for adding weight to your RopeKnight. Heavy guage soldering wire! Lead free, soft and malleable. Insert into the stainless steel weighted end hole and twist around the body. Works a treat and it is possible to to get your weight up to 20 oz or more. The aerodynamics is maintained with the nose weight forward, still very smooth and near frictionless and is a simple inexpensive, clean and unobtrusive adjustment to make. So if you can't afford multiple throw weights and want the high flying, responsive and predictable smoothness of a Ropeknight with the added benefit of adjusting the weight per requirements of specific trees. This ticks all the boxes! Cheers.

  16. The tunnel House Cotswold. Cars replaced canoes and horses here. My pics from 2008 when I presented at the Arbor Fair.
  17. I turn into rubber after a pint! I was thinking it would be nice to write into the contract "a pint for each worker at the end of the day". I had two groundies with me that had the camel backs thru most of the summer. Worked well for them.
  18. I like a cider bottle just enough for the day!
  19. Thanks so much for input, just sent off another article "Managing saws in the Trees". Few bits of insight, hope you find it a decent read. The Hammer is where I finally went full time with my biz. All the benefits of big city without all the headaches of a big city. Its a real gem. Did you get a chance to see the Liriodendron in Dundas? Biggest tree/crown I ahve seen in Ontario except for an American elm in Caledon. Mb will get a chance to share a pint. Oh yeah here is collection of pics showing how to Connect the RopeKnights in tandem for the big, tall and messy trees covered in vines, understory etc. I have used this a few times mostly in big old conifers.
