  1. I was under the impression that commercial vehicles are 100% tax deduct able in one year. So if you have a high rate tax bill on the way it's a good way of taking the sting out of that. Borrowing money or taking any sort of loan or hp is always going to be more expensive than buying out right but it does preserve your cash flow for other projects if you need it. Leasing or hp just means you have someone else looking for their share of the pie. I could be missing a trick may be lease companies can buy so cheap they pass on the savings and these are reflected in the monthly payments ? I am think a clean 3 year old van is going to loose me less money than the £350 a month repayments unless I use it hard but then it sounds like they fine you anyway.
  2. Interesting read. I have been aware for many years that lightly loaded engines and really good quality clean oil can mean shiney glazed bores lots of breathing and not many hp when it's needed. I don't like changing generator oil every year unless we find fuel dilution. I would think for a Perkins Diesel engine a good quality 15/40 turbo Diesel engine lube would be ok
  3. I would be inclined to save my time and buy something with a brass pump ideally a cat. Or kranzle look reasonable with spares available. Something with a little quality you can rebuild next time. If ever
  4. I like the mercs and they seem to have rust proofed them better since 2007. Had an lt 35 and it was great mostly merc running gear in those days. Had some good transits had a really bad one in 1995 and it put me off for life.
  5. Bought a concept 2 when it was 4 years old for about £400 good bit of kit I do ten minutes on the rower and 40 minutes on the cross trainer sometimes throw in 6 k on the rower I feel like it. Been on it 4 times a week since October and given up drinking feel 20 years younger.
  6. I use cycle ways when ever possible but most are clogged with fatties walking 6 abreast if you ping your bell they turn around and get violent. If you run them over you damage your bike so you can't win they just don't get the sharing thing. I have noticed my neighbours can be ignorant when driving past but I get my own back when they walk their dogs and I am in the land cruiser alls fair
  7. Was this a 2008 d4d I ask as this was meant to be the only year that suffered this problem. Interesting write up I have always thought of this as one of the best engines around apart from this little problem. I would hold the Land Rover idea for now 😃
  8. The reason I have kept my 1999 Amazon so long. Since the cost of raw materials went up everything is made as light as possible. They almost seem to be making vehicles to break. Not convinced I need 240 bhp and the complexity and size of a v8 in family tow truck. You have ten times my knowledge on lube oils tcd but i have heard to get oils low soot they have taken a lot of the additives out that benefit older engines ? So the idea of buying the most expensive highest spec oil on the shelf may actually harm an engine. I guess as always best to fit what is specified
  9. Some engines use a cooler in the egr circuit so the hot gases do not lower the engine performance by introducing hot gases. Some engines also rely on this cooler to lower cylinder temps period so if you take the egr circuit you run the risk of engine damage. This tends to only be on later over blown high out put small engines.
  10. Sounds like a good idea having busted my tits for twenty years to pay off a mortgage and ridden through 7 years of neg equity. I would be up for a cheap house I can rent out as part of my pension plan.
  11. .82 is fairly high I think the limit is 3. I am sure even my 16 year old landcruiser returns .1. I don't think low mileage well maintained stuff up to ten years old is the problem. The problem is high mileage badly maintained stuff and anything pre emmissions zone. Also we are not going to make a huge difference as a small island when the super States don't give a toss.
  12. Brenderup are a good trailer. Look at the strong a frame on your small trailer compared with the earlier German trailer. Well made finished and thought out normally.
  13. There ideal on old vehicles as you can have one set for tree chopping and loping and another set for facias and cladding and when disposing of waste you can take them off.
  14. The vehicles that suffered on the paint were all white I have a feeling metallic paint may be better quality so may not. Watch any iron fillings and don't leave them on for days at a time. When you place them on dont scrunch them around too much.
  15. I have a few sets but never use them on decent vans as they wreck the paint. Ok on an 8 year old van but due to over use of electronics in diesels it's now a case of make sure they are not over 5 years and when we sell them generally unmarked.
  16. Perhaps the D1 were rated higher does that match up with the vin plate under the bonnet. Over 3 tonne commercials need a class 7 mot. My local station has always moted my disco vans and they cant go over 3 tonne for vans. The payload was never great on any of them about 700kg inc driver. So if they weigh around 2300kg mt that would be about right for 3 tonne.
  17. I think our local charges £10 a tonne for top soil or clean rubble. Or £120 tonne for mixed waste min 1 tonne charge so the bigger the trailer the better.
  18. I can't remember any of my disco commercials grossing more than the cars. They carry a little more weight as they are lighter to begin with.
  19. Had this problem with my 1998 could not programme the ignition key as the door switch was faulty. The door switches connect the negative to chassis both could be faulty and both go back to a terminal block near the fuse box. Mine was not faulty at the switch but in the wiring loom.
  20. Come back female arb 😊 I think I liked your page give us a shout if you need kindling. Adam knows us good to see things are going well
  21. Take the woodmizer labels off it could be worth more.
  22. I am not seeing anything in the pics to tempt me away from ifor. The 1 piece sides will have a lot less strength than two or three sides. Also a real handful to take on and off. The ifors are crude dated and badly finished and some conponents have obviously been sourced from prc. But they are over made with good thick deep formed chassis members so if you do accidentally overload it will forgive you. I bought a 3500kg Brian James 16 ft an easier trailer to live lower to the ground which is brill if climbing on and off all day better finished and thought out but it has no where near the strength of the old ifor. So ok if you stay well within the load limits better c of g and nice tie down points 3 sides makes easier fitting.
  23. Have you tried taylors expresso may be just my taste buds but cant find anything in the supermarkets to come close will try m&S next
  24. Thanks for taking the time to post the info. You have confirmed what I was told by the dealer that imports the machine. I was tempted to buy one with a decent grinder. I have killed 3 gaggias in 15 years and recently stripped the boiler what I found was a bit grim and now always flush the boiler before making coffee. I think by flushing the rancillio you speed up the warm up process ? Making proper coffee is a right faff but I combine it with loading the dish washer and cleaning the kitchen. I went on holiday for a week and never had coffee but had head aches when I returned to uk I was about to be taken to hospital with suspected brain tumour when the doctor sussed out it was coffee withdrawal :001_smile:a bucket off expresso and I was as right as rain.
  25. Does your rancillio take a bit of time to get up to temp. I like the idea of the stainless boiler rather than running my brew through an ally boiler
