  1. Toyota colorado or 300 tdi discovery if you need to pull more than 2.6 tonnes
  2. The 3.1 troopers were superb but now much too old. The common rail 3.0 troopers were a disaster thats why they are cheap to buy. The Rodeo has a totally different engine and is very good. If someone gave me a 3.0 trooper I would put it straight on ebay especially if it still actually runs.
  3. Yes but was he paying £1.40 a litre for derv paying a mortgage and getting through a recession
  4. Rodeo or hilux for me. Owned a new Nissan never again drove a l200 felt like 1972 and service every 3500 miles. Bear in mind we are talking 10 years ago had amazon since built like brick sh
  5. I have been self employed for over 20 years and although you do have to work hard especially in the first few years its not a race. Even I still have 20 years of graft to go. Sounds like you will need to make the jump to full time self employed soon. I have found occasionally we loose a large customer but its surprising how quickly you fill the time. One thing I would say is if you are supplying logs give that up even if you get the wood free. Profit on logs is appalling and it kills your kit. The turn over looks good especially since it comes in fast and you have forgotten how much work went into it.
  6. In the end my solution to this problem was to buy a cheap 1 tonne all terrain forklift. The bags fill so fast you may as well leave the engine running. Our forklift now has a blown head gasket so given some proper work it overheats we have run some big hours on it. Left ticking over all day it uses less than a gallon 3 cylinder ku boat diesel. For this job I have not found a better way of doing it and will shortly be fitting a new gasket.
  7. Because we are not lifting 800kg have found two handles diagonally works fine forks together in middle two side handles lifts ok. The only time it falls apart is when the bags are years old but you are only supposed to use them once so getting ten years out of them is a no no
  8. Check it's got the right oil in and enough of it. If it has a filter make sure it's clean. Some have a fan to cool the oil. It sounds like its nackered and stops working when the oil thins.
  9. Best of the best I think still got quality in the body combined with the reliable and economical d4d engine
  10. It was so wet over the last 18 months we have had some mould problems with our stripe vented bags especially processing September onwards. The see through bags may be a better bet if the weather stays the same for years
  11. Everyone is on holiday in the bahamas spending the money they made from selling logs.
  12. Can you hang on for a few days just got to unload a container
  13. I thought the crack of your butt was automatically on show at the age of 45 its a combination of beer and value jeans. I am lucky because i can still get my 40inch waist in to a 28 inch jean luckily for everyone else I have a tipper.
  14. I can remember a 17 tonne load of beech about 18 months ago not bought from anyone on here. It was 40% 2in sticks 40% stuff over 18" 20% of stuff that went through our processor. It was about that time I thought stuff it and started to wind it down and not budget for new processors and large kit.
  15. I have had vehicles that can be a pain so when it needs to be quiet I did not bother with the fob and just lock the doors with the key. That way no alarm is set, should tell you in the manual. Make sure you dont have a spider walking around at night all the ideas above are worth a try. Orvis was a special edition something to do with the fishing equipment sold in Andover by Orvis.
  16. I would say you are right by christmas I had not sold 10% of my logs in the last few weeks have sold the lot. Next autumn I think will be slow as money is short and more people will be doing logs because this winter has dragged on again and caused a shortage.
  17. That could be a 1/2 cube bag so still £70 a metre.
  18. Good luck to him if people are stupid enough to pay without checking the sales history why not. We dont live in a nanny state ( yet ) if god did not want them sheared he would not have given them woolly coats I think is the expression.
  19. There could be another side to the story where she has five log merchants in and spins ea the same story and they feel sorry for her and leave half a cube free. but then I a can be a cynic
  20. Did not mean to put a downer on it. Feathers are up as kindling orders are good think it may just be my area very wealthy log prices rock bottom.
  21. clean logs are green logs each of my beech logs has a pair of arms and legs and when its dark they run into the field and roll around in the mud. After 12 months they are black. They dont throw their coat of till they hit the customers drive. yes I been drinking
  22. The same as this year and the last 18 months since the whole world now cuts up logs for beer money.
  23. I never seen a difference between branch and stem both weigh about the same so must have similar BTU.
  24. Been selling firewood for 7 years given up trying to explain to customers. All they are interested in is cheap. More so now than ever. The enviromental conscience has gone clean out the window now they cant afford to send Tarquin to uni while they jet of to Barbados.
