  1. This is what i wrote in my other rope guide thread... "...retrieval is impossible because of two reasons; With a spliced eye, the climbing line will not go through the pulley then onto the retrieval line. Without a spliced eye, the climbing line will go through the pulley, but will also go through the retrieval line." That's the problem i face with the standard swing cheek pulleys i currently own. edit: found this, thanks marc. you're right it is expensive. I was hoping to spend around £15 http://www.proclimber.co.uk/catalogue/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=241
  2. Can anyone point me in the direction of a pulley that is fairly small but can accommodate a 13mm climbing line with spliced end? (for home made rope guide) thanks.
  3. Right, I have played around a bit and made a bodge job with a bowline loop, prussik attached to a micro pulley and ALOT of electrical tape. Trouble is the pulley only just takes through 13mm of rope. No more. Therefore retrieval is impossible because of two reasons; With a spliced eye, the climbing line will not go through the pulley then onto the retrieval line. Without a spliced eye, the climbing line will go through the pulley, but will also go through the retrieval line. Apart from the art cocoon, could someone let me know of a pulley than will accommodate for a spliced eye whilst being small enough to go through the loop when retrieving. Thanks
  4. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQkF7fpw-wI]YouTube - Frank Kelly-Christmas Countdown (12 days to christmas)[/ame]
  5. The firm i subby for is on xmas break until 4th jan and i could do with some work until then. the most realistic days are 28th 29th 30th. will climb or do groundwork or ring up/chop up logs in your yard. i dont mind. thanks
  6. here's a slightly bigger pic which makes the size difference in the loop a bit clearer. after searching a bit it seems it is a prototype.
  7. if its cheap i can see it being quite good. alot less friction than a regular two-ring cambium saver. price? it looks to me like the top loop is smaller and has concave sides, while the bottom on is larger with convex sides. in fact im sure of it.
  8. i wish i could splice, i would probably go for this .......

    what boots?

elten fellsmen or fellsmen expert are good for the money (£100-£120)
  10. So we are expected to chase them outside and then just shake a fist at them and call them rotters as they run away? If someone tied up my family and threatened them with knives, i would of done exactly the same, except my weapon would be a skateboard.
  11. wow. not much else i can say. is that near seattle?
  12. good idea! i have got a spare pulley. ive got a spare bit of rope aswell. it'll give me something to do at christmas when the relatives are over
  13. yes, after being inspired by drewb's creation. after time spent making it and materials im guessing it will be nearly as costly.
  14. ok, failing that, where is the cheapest to buy new?
  15. scrooges
  16. before i buy a new one (haven't really got the money tbh), has anyone got a spare one going? thanks
  17. you cant go wrong with Sandisk New SanDisk SD 8GB Memory Card on eBay (end time 03-Jan-10 23:47:21 GMT)
  18. as i said in rupes thread, buy this ENERGIZER CHARGER FOR AA & AAA BATTERIES W/ CAR CHARGER on eBay (end time 23-Dec-09 12:18:16 GMT) it come with wall charger and car charger (handy for topping the batteries up at lunchtime) and the batteries are one of the best. we have had ours almost 2 years and still have the original batteries. and whatever batteries you do get, check the 'mAh' rating. only get ones with more than 2000mAh. these are good, at 2450mAh Energizer Rechargeable Batteries AA 2450mAh 4 Pack on eBay (end time 25-Dec-09 23:26:46 GMT)
  19. rupe - get one of these (if they take AA or AAA batteries) ENERGIZER CHARGER FOR AA & AAA BATTERIES W/ CAR CHARGER on eBay (end time 23-Dec-09 12:18:16 GMT) we got one for our thirsty camera and after 2 years, the same batteries are still holding charge just as long. beats any other batteries we have tried. the great thing is it comes with a car plug, so you can give them a quick charge at lunchtime in your work truck if you need to. also, re: the sound when you brush past twigs with the camera its really loud, but for some reason the 114dB saw sounds like its 100m away. odd.
  20. like the others im impressed with the rope trick. never thought of it. i suppose that would only work with a vt/pulley or similar.
  21. awesome. i'll be joining the possums in a few years. hopefully.
  22. awful news, especially around christmas time. hope his family are ok.
  23. awesome (both the last jobs) they both make our freezing cold laylandii job seem even worse!
  24. well spotted. i think we are going back there to do exactly that. it was done around 8 years ago by the look of the new growth. he wanted to keep some height on the laylandii to obscure the view of the neighbouring mental hospital
  25. here's an animated GIF i made of the same job...
