  6. Saw this on Treebuzz.... Recall Notice: Petzl ZIGZAG #360804 - 04/24/13 05:44 PM Attachment (18 downloads) Reply Quote Quick Reply This information is complementary to and supersedes the Safety Alert issued April 19, 2013 Summary of the facts: On Friday, April 12, Petzl was informed of an accidental fall in a training center in Germany. This fall was related to a failure of the rope end attachment hole of the Petzl ZIGZAG mechanical Prusik. We have since been informed of another identical failure. These failures were the result of a particular configuration of a cantilevered and off-axis loaded upper carabiner (see photo). Petzl believes that this incorrect positioning of the connector could inadvertently occur during normal use with the potential for serious injury or death. Continued use of the ZIGZAG poses a risk of serious injury or death. Petzl Action: Petzl has decided to immediately recall all ZIGZAGs. As a measure of precaution, we ask that you: - Immediately stop using the ZIGZAG - Contact Petzl America After Sales and Service: [email protected] -or- (877) 807-3805 to initiate the return process - Return the ZIGZAG to Petzl America Petzl America will pay for all shipping costs. You can then choose from the following options: - Credit for other Petzl products (equal to the retail price of the ZIGZAG + 30%) - A complete refund of the purchase price For more information about this recall: - Consult the ZIGZAG recall FAQ (see below for link to download the original recall document and FAQ in PDF format) - Contact Petzl America: [email protected] -or- (877) 807-3805 A new version of the ZIGZAG is currently being developed and will be available in January 2014. We are fully aware of the inconvenience caused by this issue. Please accept our full apologies. Thank you for your continued trust. 7. One word. TREESTUFF!
  8. A wise Salvadorian told me of a trick when bucking logs on the deck, to stop trapping the saw... Very simple. Cut half way thru the log, remove saw, then cut a small 'face cut/wedge' and let it fall into the cut, a quick tap with the bar, and an immediate and very effective wedge to stop the cut closing. Try it out next time!
  9. You need to get better men then! haha Awesome big bandit!

  14. Ooh look at you getting all professional! Much cleaner work. One piece of advice when cutting conifer, (or willow, poplar etc) to stop it tearing at the hinge, put to ears on either side just underneath the gob. This will prevent it.

  23. Check your ZigZag - Accident today in Germany WARNING IMPORTANT! ACCIDENT WITH ZIGZAG!! by HOLGER Today at 15:22 I just received the message that a crash related to the PETZL ZIGZAG occurred! Thomas Bohl, director of the FSB Oerrel was a few hours ago called directly from the victim ... so it's not a rumor! The climber , an employee of the city of Celle with its brand new ZIGZAG crashed from 5 meters because the TOP GOLDEN attachment loop is broken ... so free fall! The climbers it goes under the circumstances .... seriously injured but he is not sure in medical treatment. should be clearly understood until the facts you refrain from using the device ... that please also give out to all the users of which you know that they use the best ZIGZAG ... immediately! HOLGER Presenter Posts: 164 Joined: 9th March 2010 18:20Up -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Re: ATTENTION IMPORTANT! ACCIDENT WITH ZIGZAG!! by Woody on Today 17:51 Holger, Thanks for the info, even if it is not good news, of course. I hope the climbers is nothing worse happened. Petzl I just talked to who have been informed and have passed on the warning. I have just checked my (where I've spent the last 3 weeks almost every day) can see and nothing. Even with heavy distortion of the carabiner (torsion) because nothing is happening. Are actually also two eyes (two case halves) which then probably both have to be broken as soon as the faulty device can be examined perhaps say how that could happen. First of all the best and best-well wishes to the casualty!
