  3. Not sure if this has been posted or not before but looks pretty cool. How efficient is it though? http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DTtNLhGDXEbc%26sns%3Dfb&sns=fb&v=TtNLhGDXEbc&gl=GB Sent from Rob's GalaxySII

  6. No, science has a lot of answers but not all... Science cannot exist (again in my opinion) without philosophy and religion, they are two sides of the same coin. Science does however, increase the rate of evolution at an exponential rate, the more we discover the more we understand. As I also stated, being trained doesn't mean you can't be a free thinker, it's what we choose to do with that training thats important. Looks like I've got more reading to do on succession, but I'm not persuaded yet:biggrin: Sent from Rob's GalaxySII
  7. Now THAT was a good post... Tony, I do whole heartedly apologise for using the word preaching in the earlier post, it was the wrong choice of word, and I should've thought before posting. I do however agree that the population has choices to make, whether those are made correctly is the big decider on everybodies fate. I still think (in my opinion) it doesn't have to be wholly natives that are the way forwards:biggrin: Sent from Rob's GalaxySII

  9. will let this one lie, unless anybody else has something to add? Sent from Rob's GalaxySII
  10. nope, i thought you meant you quit after danavans post? i want to hear YOUR theories and arguements against our ideas of planting other species of trees as apposed to natives:biggrin: and i mean your ideas, not from videos:biggrin: and i am GENUIENLY interested:biggrin:
  11. don't quit, it was getting interesting:biggrin:
  12. ok:lol: Castanea sativa isn't a native species (still no need to import it though), but is imported probably (speculation) due to money reasons, as with anything! And what if.... out of the box thought, this blight only makes our sweet chestnuts stronger in the long run (survival of the fittest and all that)
  13. Oh and i also like rudyard kiplings IF, not many of us can call ourselves a man, my son:001_rolleyes:
  14. can i get involved:blush:
  15. Starting with the title Saving the old growth- you must see this! Why not just call the thread "Saving the old growth" Saying "you must see this" implies force, masters of the spoken (and written) word tend to be the ones that succeed the most Good question, but why not, NOT plant natives? the theory of evolution is an interesting one and things over millions of years change, some for better, some for worse. Plate techtonics cause continents to move, oceans rise and fall, things will eventually move locations and we could see giant sequoia's growing in sunny blackpool. We are all open to choices, those of stronger mind make their own, others follow. Did this question get answered? Why not plant sequoias? That word, "will", can be used to express a command, exhortation, or injunction <you will do as I say, at once> and should be used more wisely Would it not have been more pertinent to introduce the video and ask for reactions rather than saying we "will" enjoy it? reading between the lines this post says that i have free will and choice but because it is not in agreeance i will be damned Are you suggesting that all academics have a narrow view of things because they are trained? I'm no academic, i'm doing a degree because unfortunatley in life MONEY rules, i have mouths to feed, and in my chosen field, if i want to succeed, having a degree is going to help Have you ever read and Albert Camus and his ideas on the absurd. How he emphasizes happiness is fleeting and the mortality of the human condition. I could delve into it further but would prefer you to make your own conclusions as i would expect you of me. Which brings me to my point, and a bit of a controversial question/idea.... What if this, the world, evolution, death of one ecosystem, the start of another was meant to be. What if mother earth put us on this planet to destroy it? Not complete destruction but to finish of the human cycle? The meteorite destroyed the dinosaurs what if we where put here to finish this cycle of events for a new one WITHOUT US to start... not saying that this is right but its an interesting theory..... answers/arguments on a postcard:001_cool:
  16. i can do that too, bear with:biggrin: ps, where you suggesting i was drinking:lol:
  17. Is got giant squid written all over it:biggrin: Sent from Rob's GalaxySII

  19. 1) to call me a smart arse student and kiddo implies many things, things that can be taken the wrong way on this communication format, I remember someone once telling me (not so very long ago:biggrin:) to choose ones words wisely otherwise things sound derogatory 2) I may be a student, but in life, I am only 6 years behind you and have enough life experience (although still learning day to day like ALL of us) to know my own mind and form an opinion on which a base my living. 3) I think you'll find if you read back I have never "dictated" anything, only offered an outlook on the situation as it appeared to me 4) I don't wear knickers, only thongs! 5) and it's good to debate/argue on matters we feel passionate about, it's how we learn and improve what we know and opens or eyes to other stuff 6) I've been round this forest a while too, I just have a different outlook of it to you:biggrin: Sent from Rob's GalaxySII

  22. Lastly, I am also disappointed that your disappointed! Surely we all have our own choices to make in life? Are you saying your disappointed because i'm not following yours? Tony, i like you, i like the work you do, (i like your reductions), I like your generosity, you are inspiring and passionate, but i just feel that sometimes that passion can get the better of you
  23. Unfortunately the human animal is a parasite, we take what we can with the majority never putting back. I'm scared that one day we shall do what we have done here to a far off distant beautiful green planet. Sent from Rob's GalaxySII
  24. I am only making an observation, it is hard to put across a message on a public forum when you can't tell the internation in my voice. If you feel disappointed then you have jumped to the wrong conclusion about what I was trying to say, yes maybe i shouldn't of used the word preaching, but at that time, in my head, it seemed appropriate. As stated, I am fully aware of the issues you have brought to light, some of the videos you have posted I have watched some time ago but chose not to post them here (or elsewhere) for reasons of my own. Your views and opinions, just as everybody else's, are important, it's the way we put that message across that is even MORE important. So I don't mean to criticise and apologise if you thought I was doing. I just think that society is a rolling stone that keeps getting bigger on it's downwards path Sent from Rob's GalaxySII
  25. I accept my path, I take what life throws at me a day at a time, i do what I can for my kids and make sure they have a secure future. I believe in some good causes and like yourself have an interest in this field. I just feel in my opinion preaching to the public masses is wrong, and that goes for whatever you believe in, christian, atheism, gaeism (spelling or made up) or devil worshiping, if indeed the devil exists! There are ways and means to get messages across, I am in no way correct on this matter, it is just my opinion, but messages with added "pressure" can be seen as preaching and people of weak mind easily get sucked in Again I must re-iterate, I am not getting at you in particular as I do believe in this noble cause, and do feel we are on a downward spiral unless something is changed. But there are ways and means to everything without "preaching" Sent from Rob's GalaxySII
