  4. Why is there so much hate when it comes to football? Turned off from football last season, I'm mean completely, no looking at scores, results, fixtures, gossip, matches, anything... It's been bliss:biggrin: Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  5. Done:biggrin:
  6. Thank you David for taking the time to reply, sorry i haven't replied back as yet, been a busy boy today with assignments and want to sit and divulge this information properly. I have heard of the Monte Carlo Simulation before, its vaguely linked into the Wisdom of Crowds. I was never great at Maths at school, but never really put the effort into what it deserves, but that's a whole different story! On a quick note before I reply properly, You bring in the term 'Reasonably practicable' or "ALARP" or "SFAIRP", but i always figured QTRA advertised itself as something different from the current forms of tree hazard assessment. Deciding whether a risk is ALARP can be challenging because it requires duty-holders and the experts advising them to exercise judgement (there's that subjectivity again). In the great majority of cases, that judgment could refer to existing ‘good practice’ that has been established by a process of discussion with stakeholders to achieve a consensus about what is ALARP. For high hazards, complex or novel situations, good practice is built upon, using more formal decision making techniques, including cost-benefit analysis, to inform judgement. But why should i use QTRA over what already exists...?

  9. Interesting thread, I am reading with intrigue:thumbup: Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  10. Yes that's what I meant, PoF. Typo that I didn't check so apologies. Also, I understand what you are saying about the myriad of bodies creating this 1/10000 threshold that QTRA adheres to (and didn't set). But who's to say a tree with an outcome of 1/10050 is safer than a tree with 1/9997...? It's this variability that I can't seen to get past. Life just isn't exact? Cheers David, I liked that attachment and agree with Poohs sentiments:biggrin: Robin Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

  14. Great stuff:thumbup: Now, not trying to put the cat amongst the pigeons but would like to ask a question. Are they still functioning Pollards in the true sense? I mean why go to the trouble to keep then falling apart? Does standing dead wood not have as much biodiverse advantages as these lapsed Pollards? Again, not trying to be funny, just curious:biggrin: Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  15. I see quite a bit on A. campestre here in theNorth West. Maybe it is regional as David suggests? Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  16. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Ride-to-the-Ballabu/324346237662848 http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/lounge/49240-please-sponsor-me-my-fundraiser-ride-ballabu.html Over 3000km in and its getting tough! My knee has swollen up again and the trip is going ahead about 2 weeks earlier than i had originally thought. Daily average has now shot up to nearly 40km a day. Its taken its toll on me legs and i need to do more uni reading, last few months left and biggest load of assignments to do. Ah well it will be worth it in the end, and when the going gets tough, well the tough.... (ps, raised some monies for the people of the Ballabu so far, anymore however great or small is appreciated. Even if you can't give, encouragement is the next best thing, well that and spreading the word:thumbup:)
  17. Robin/Rob, Its all good (just as long as its not Derek, or Gerald etc (apologies to Derek's and Gerald's etc)). Yes Acer, I now understand the maths you have shown here, so thanks for that. Now please don't take this the wrong way, its harder to put across an expression over an internet forum and i don't want you to mis-interpret my written word due to the lack of inquisitive intonation in my voice. What are your thoughts then on the range of "PoH" you have shown here on that there calculator? What i mean is, are the ranges shown not open to interpretation/perception/subjectivity (professional judgement) which then therefore negate the "exactness" of that threshold that has supposed to have been quantified? Again, I'm not trying to be funny, just trying to get my head round it:biggrin: And do you prefer David or Acer? (seeing as you asked me)

  21. Hi David, Quick question. The 1/10000 threshold, is that an exact figure? For example, after addressing the site, tree, targets etc and putting the results into the calculator, the quantitative figure you get, is that adhered to exactly? So if it was slightly over, or slightly under what would the outcome be? Is it black and white or is there still lots of little grey areas? Thanks Robin (and sorry if this sounds like a daft question) Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  22. For David, can't remember which thread that ash tree was in so here's some pics of the stump Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
