  1. So probably aware that you can earn good coin if you set up yourself? Do you employ people? If so I hope your paying good wages!
  2. Why are you so concerned about what people are willing to work for in arb? 100 a day is similar to nurses, teachers all of which require degree level training. Are you on there forums also worrying about how much they earn?
  3. Every little helps though. That 2-3 pounds an hour is an extra 80-120 per wk. Plus playing with saws in gardens with tea etc is much more appealing than being on the tills for 8hrs!
  4. Unless contract ie utility, council etc Arb jobs are rarely more than a few days so companies find it difficult to employ especially when overheads/cost of equipment are extremely high. Much easier in building trade where a few extensions can fill the diary for a year and so easy to know figures with much lower equipment cost/overheads. I think on the whole arb is for guys in there 20s who are looking for a bit of fun and excitement before moving on to something else or setting up there own and getting the young guys on a ton a day to do the work.
  5. In another thread Maybelateron you mentioned you used to work as a GP. Is it correct that a GP could charge as locum £600-1000 per day. If so do you ever regret giving up being a GP?!
  6. On most electric hedgetrimmers there is a mechanism on the front handle which must be pressed inorder for the motor to engage. You may be better off aiming for the petrol hedge trimmer market and installing a sensor on the front handle Its a bigger market for sure and slipping forward into a hedge off ladders occaionally results in loss of fingers on the hand which was on the forward handle but now resting either in hedge or on the blade minus a finger. Failing that making an improvement on this drone chainsaw would be good for aerial tree work: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6Viwwetf0gU Or could you make something that would fit over a hedge and trim it without the need of an operator? Robotic hedgetrimmer . Similiar to the robo lawn mower
  7. Get cs30,31,38,39 , buy PPE, ladders, climbing saw, ground saw, hedge cutters, rake and a pickup. Get public liability, advertise flyers or website, quote , go and do the job, get paid, reflect, have a pasty and a pint repeat.
  8. Some sort of sensor / trigger on the front handle which prevents the saw from being able to be accelerated without 2 hands being on the saw would be good for diy users. I once laid the saw down on its side without the chain brake on and a twig caught the throttle and revved the saw up .
  9. Thanks. Will check the belts. The new fan is £240 but might be worth it . Looks like the engine needs to be removed for access
  10. I have a timberwolf 18/100 which does not throw the chip as far as it should. I have replaced blades and anvil The fan looks ok but wondering if a new fan is worth buying? Do old fans loose metal/edge over a number of years?

The 26lb bow will be perfect. I have 30lb bow , 40lb, and 60lb . 40 is gets the most use. Good you can go to 42lb if required 30 will kill most beasts Nearly shot my phone with the 30!
  12. Buy one of these Tens machines. Uses electrical impulses to stimulate muscles that have gone into spasm and release them. They are surprising powerful and feel like a massage. Half setting is powerful enough. 4 pads on the lower back really eases up a stiff lower back and associated sciatic pain. Multiple programs for different massage types. AUVON Dual Channel TENS Machine for Pain Relief, TENS Unit Muscle Stimulator with 20 Modes, 2" and 2"x4" TENS Pads Replacement: Amazon.co.uk: Health & Personal Care WWW.AMAZON.CO.UK Free delivery and returns on eligible orders of £20 or more. Buy AUVON Dual Channel TENS Machine for Pain Relief, TENS... Other than that 20 minutes meditation a day to calm the nervous system and tight muscles
  13. Stick one of these in the portacabin Male mannequin full body used WWW.EBAY.CO.UK <p dir="ltr" style="margin-top:0; margin-bottom:0;">Male mannequin full body in seated position. used. Condition is...
  14. I have had a 20ft shipping container with lockbox near Exeter Devon for 12 years on a farm with no issues. Another thing to deter is having a cheap portacabin nearby and a vehicle parked up to make it look like there potentially someone in the cabin sleeping at night.
  15. Is it possible to convert hs82rce which has ergostart to standard pull start?
  16. Not sure why stihl are fitting this ergostart to commercial stuff like the hs82r hedgecutter? Seems to easy to break. Is it possible to retro fit normal start so that you can just pull it like normal?
  17. I bought a KM94RCE Kombi a couple of years ago which has Ergostart and never found the ergostart feature to be quite what is advertised. Should it be as easy to start as: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MsSWlmpCzts It starts with a short sharp pull like normal but if you pull slowly it skips. Taken it apart one Pawl has a lug the other doesn't so not sure if this might be the issue? I am considering buying a new HS82RCE hedgetrimmer but concerned it will be the same issue. Anyone else have a similar problem with the ergostart?
  18. My understanding with UBI is that it would be identical payment for everyone say £350-500pm . Things like social housing, child benefit would have to come out of this payment or charity. UBI seems a great idea but I am aware of people on universal credit who get a total package of just over a £1k month for a single person. I'm not sure where it would leave them.
  19. A lot of small businesses / self employed are probably going to need some form of government assistance as the social distancing will have a negative effect on business/income . Its probably best to support them with a decent package than see there business fail and end up on Universal credit which will cost more long term. Bring on a universal basic income
  20. I agree I have enjoyed renting a container at a low rate and keeping overheads down. My point was that an identical container opposite me who happened to be there at the right time ie a voa inspection now qualifies for a 10k handout which would be very useful given the current climate. Essentially not being there on the day means that your 10k down. Must be lots of others in similar situation.
  21. Fairly harsh though - £50999 and you get £25000 or £51,000 and you get sod all. Much better to have a phased system.
  22. To loose out on £25,000 over a £1!- The grant system for businesses is too much like a lottery.
  23. More about being in the right place at right time. I missed the voa inspection by a couple of months. The guy whos container is 20ft away and had his unit rated only turns over about 10k a year and been running a business for a couple of years. so certainly not only about being a big established business. If you missed the voa inspection but rent a unit you will not be able to get the grant. Rates are currently 200 quid a year but full relief anyway.
  24. Furlough the full time staff if employed or if there self employed they will get 80% . Apply for grants if your eligible. Liquidate some assets and if all fails sign on the rock n roll.
