  1. Does make a damn fine compost though. Also produces a good yield of terrestrial shrimps; may be a bit tricky creating a market for those, but you could e.g. keep chickens to feed them to. I am really quite surprised how critical folk have been over a simple enough request. Maybe he is asking for a lot of service, but all he did was ask for a price. Bit far off my turf, otherwise I'd be game for helping out.
  2. As a few have noted, % turnover is a red herring. The real question is where is the line at the bottom? If you have a set of tools and do nothing with them, how much is it going to cost you? Insurance (at minimum employers liability, public liability, vehicle), road tax, rent... Anything else all depends how much work you can do.
  3. No disrespect, but I find that this is a better site. The OPSI site just tells you the act as it was written, the other is updated. I was most embarrassed after checking the law on the OPSI site, and getting into a steaming row with a government officer about it. Turned out the law had been changed somewhere down the line. Formaldehyde is an intermediate in the combustion reaction, so I wouldn't fret too much about burning that, as long as your fire is hot.
  4. Was that with a moisture meter? You cannot always trust them, various types of decay and other factors can throw off the readings. The only way to know for certain is to weigh a sample, then cook it and weigh again.
  5. For what we do, most of us get peanuts. It is about customer satisfaction. That happy face and the cry of "ooh you've made such a difference!"
  6. I have just read that in rare cases, blackthorn poisoning can lead to loss of the limb if it is not treated... Not sure I believe it, and I happened upon this thread while trying to find out, but I thought I'd share with you.
  7. Without any local knowledge, the best I can suggest is HSS. They used to do a reasonable sized chipper for hire. I couldn't say if it is any good; last time I hired a chipper (not from them), the blades had faces instead of edges... and the hire shop had the cheek to ask how I knew it was ****ed. :?
  8. If you prefer it in English (sort of anyway)
  9. If you've got to do any work lineside you have got to get your railway safety ticket. I'm afraid mine has expired.
  10. You want to put some oinkment on that.
  11. I've often thought that there is not enough use of honey traps going on: tools fitted with tracking devices and left somewhere less than secure. Simple fact is that that they are not that keen to stop theft. Most theft is covered by insurance, so new replacements are bought. Theft drives the economy. It would be easy enough to stop it if they put a bit of thought and effort into it.
  12. I wouldn't know about that (though they do seem to have a reputation), but I do know they are apes, not monkeys. I was tempted enough to ask for further details, but I didn't get any.
  13. I'm a little bit wary of buying something that dear off eBay, and I haven't had a chance to go down there in person yet, but thanks for the tip off.
  14. If in doubt, go to the mouth of the horse. Dark smoke is covered in part one: you're not allowed to emit that anywhere.
  15. I posted the one on eBay because it was the closest type of thing I'd found to what I want, and was still a long long way off. It was just an example, I'd not even noticed the make.
  16. I thought I'd read the TW was a disc?
  17. From what I can gather, the Greenmec is a fair bit better than the Timberwolf, and a fair bit cheaper than the Jo Beau. I'm a little puzzled why they are 4-5 times the price of that thing on eBay. I can see they are 4 or 5 times better (probably more), but I don't really see 4-5 times as much engineering. :?
  18. Thank you, I had worked that out. Is why I was looking for something different.
  19. You mean this one? Looks ideal. Does anyone happen to have one for sale?
  20. I've been thinking about getting a small chipper, and I am wondering if such a thing exists as I cannot find one. I am looking for the biggest I can find that is man portable: ie you can wheel it through a doorway into those rear gardens that have no proper access. The only things I can find in that sort of size are chipper/shredders: like this (random example) on eBay: NEW 13 HP PETROL GARDEN CHIPPER SHREDDER WOOD MULCHER on eBay (end time 08-Nov-09 21:18:28 GMT). I have hired something similar and found the shredder part of it to be a waste of time. Also, all the ones I've seen dump the chips out of the bottom, so block up as soon as anything. Any suggestions? Thanks.
  21. All that wood straight into atmospheric carbon. Not such a great idea. Best I crack on with my alternative plan then.
  22. You need a goods vehicle operators license for anything over 3.5 tonnes. I think there are a couple of exemptions, but I forget what they are.
  23. Judges often have a lot of sense. Thing is that you normally go in front of a magistrate, and only go to a judge on appeal.
