  1. I thought that too. Which would make it a police matter. No doubt whatsoever that they would treat it as a neighbours dispute, but you might at least get a crime reference for your insurance.
  2. What is the legality here? I know you are allowed to cut overhanging branches, but I did not think you could do it to the extent that it would create a hazard.
  3. It is the boss you want to be suing.
  4. Best start growing it I reckon.
  5. Well you are in Scotland. They do have a reputation to maintain.
  6. Hey, fair play, a tea break is a tea break. But when the tea breaks last all day... I did a stint for a council a while back. At some point in their history the union had clearly determined that it was not fair that the office staff could go to the canteen when the outdoor staff couldn't... so places were provided for the outdoor staff to take their tea breaks. Which of course means that by the time you've arrived on site (had your surreptitious cuppa) and set up, it is nearly time to pack up and go for the official tea break. :? I got into terrible trouble one time when they sent me out with another subbie and we actually turned a proper day's work.
  7. Simple enough, you make it clear in advance what your standby charges are, and sit back and watch the show.
  8. I think they still run cargo ships that route. May still work out cheaper than the long way around. Landy & trailer may not be the best option though, they're usually priced on length.
  9. Presumably. That's why he wants a new one.
  10. Was a couple of years ago.
  11. It was a Stihl, but not direct from Stihl. I forget who it was, but I was well impressed with the service: they'd got a special offer, a 16" 020 with some bonus kit at a reasonable enough price that I'd put up with the extra 2" (or change it later)... they phoned quite late in the afternoon to apologise that they'd run out of 16", and would a 14" do, and it still arrived at a reasonable time the following morning.
  12. My first saw was from my local shop, they asked if I'd got one, but didn't need to see it. My most recent was mail order and they asked me to fax a copy of it. I forget about the saws in between.
  13. I'm no salesman, but I'd be interested in coming for a look-see.
  14. If you spray me with petrol, then I probably wouldn't. I don't mind kit being a bit knackered, but lines have to be drawn.
  15. It would be the HSE that would be responsible, and I can confirm that using a top-handled saw on the ground is against their rules. I wrote and asked them why, and they said that it can be dangerous if not used safely. :? I said to them "fine, come and get me if you dare." Back in the real world, they don't give a monkeys. I informed an (obviously now ex-) employer of a leaky fuel tank on an 020T: it sprayed petrol over you when you used it. After we parted company (for other reasons), I reported this to HSE and they didn't even write it down. :?
  16. That is indeed what I meant to say. Thanks for the help folks.
  17. It has been a while since I've had to get involved with any of this, but it seems that there are a bunch of trees being felled locally which the locals are up in arms about. It is a conservation area, and some of the trees are covered by a TPO, and the word is that the work is not really necessary (I've not looked myself). I thought that notices had to be posted when applications were made for work under a TPO. Have I got that wrong, did the rules change, or has somebody been naughty? And does the decision to allow works lie entirely with the Tree officer? Obviously, if he says "No" you can appeal, but is there any redress if he says "No" when he should not have done?
  18. Apart from the low discharge height, what's wrong with the Treebusta?
  19. Anyone know a good source? I've found a few places that'll charge for a download, but there is no knowing if they are any good or not.
  20. There are quite a few of those (Blackfriars Insurance). Do you know which it was? And thanks for all the suggestions, I've fired off a few queries.
  21. For various reasons, I don't want to be doing trees full time. So I'm looking for insurance that would cover me for when I do want to do it, or possibly even just get cover for individual jobs as they come up. Any recommendations?
  22. Blimey. Where do you find nickel then? For some clues about prices, this site letsrecycle.com - News and information for the Recycling and Waste Management Community may be useful.
  23. Well deserved if you think staff or customer care are desirable qualities. Very efficient money making operation apart from that. I don't regret having worked there.
