  1. Had my motorbike racing fix, done my chores, still far too wet to wash the bike (hurrah for crappy Inglish weather ) and all I have to do now is decide which particular beast or fowl to have for dinner. All without ever getting out of my pj's . Sometimes there's a lot be said for having a slack day.
  2. Sounds great. Can you adopt me and take me as well? LoL.

The Gardener's Encyclopaedia of Climbers and Wall Shrubs: Brian Davis - AbeBooks - 9780670829293: Greener Books Less than £2 if you want it.
  4. It's hacking down outside, so I have the perfect excuse to stay in and be self indulgent. I will be watching the Moto GP later to see if Rossi has taken my advice, then a gentle afternoon of not doing very much. Mmmm, can't wait. How are you gonna spend today?
  5. Awww, you hero, you When cats do something that stupid, it does make me wonder about Darwin's theory...
  6. Like every modern young laydee, i wanted to know how to use a chainsaw . I used to rely on a wood stove for heating and cooking and got thoroughly peed off with using a bow saw. The only free course i could find at the time was the C&G Arb, and that was that - i was hooked
  7. Sure it's not expanding foam? From the bygone days of filling cavities Laetiporous would be my i.d. as well. As for books - I highly recommend the great God Lonsdale's "Principles of Tree Hazard assessment and Management". It gives a comprehensive list of the most commonly found wood decay fungi and more importantly, the type of decay they cause.

If one such book exists, then I haven't come across it. To have that much info' on a wide range of spp's and cv's would make it about 3m thick I find a combination of Hilliers and Alan Mitchells works quite well, or the RHS manuals are good, though they don't tend to have a huge amount of detail. Gardening Expert series give a lot of detail but don't cover a lot of spp. I think you'll find you're going to have to end up with a bit of a library to get all the info you want on any one particular tree. But I have heard that tinternet thingy is quite good for research... If you want a lend of any books, gizza pm and i'll see about getting them out of the mothballs.

    Tpo

More revision? As above. Trees on SU's land cannot be TPO'd because they have the right to do what they want to their own trees. 'Elf n' Safety, innit. As far as I am aware, if a SU wants to carry out work on a tree outside of their land, for whatever reason, then the usual process still applies.

    oak tree

Shame. Given the choice of beautiful surroundings, interesting work and an opportunity to expand my knowledge, or dealing with local TO's specs, i know which i'd prefer . I think i'm far from alone in that. On the plus side..... Nope can't think of one!

    oak tree

Is that with Bill @ The Tree Co? If it is, I've heard that you're not going to have to worry about being sent to Kensington any more . Great piccy of a gorgeous tree. I don't think Richmond Park is any where near appreciated enough for it's ancient / veteran tree resources.
  12. Looks like it's only a half hitch or two away from forming an attractive macrame plant hanger .
  13. I saw this when out and about yesterday and was quite amused. You come across some well meant but thoroughly useless attempts at tree maintenance at times, dontcha? It looks like the owner is trying to keep the eucy that is growing through the cherry from self destrucing over the footway.
  14. Have you considered the LANTRA 3 day inspection course? Not exactly the same thing, i know, but it does lead to a legally recognised certificate of competance. It covers R/A etc...
  15. Weed killers can have a similar effect. But unless it was on Council owned land that probably wasn't the cause in this instance.
  16. Do you mean Hedgerow Regs 1997? Try this: Not sure if this is what you are after, or if you're referring to Anti Social / High Hedges Regs the_hedgerow_regulations_-_your_questions_answered.pdf
  17. Just when i was getting used to wasting, er, constructively researching all day on tintenet and tree forums.... Ah well, i always knew work would get in the way of my social life one day Thanks for all the support
  18. Yep, after far too many months in the Jeremy Kyle hinterland, I've got another job. And rather a good one n' all. I'll be tree surveying for the borough I live in, starting off in an area that's within walking distance from Hotel Chez Jane . It's only temp' to start, but it could lead on to a perm' position. It's low stress and as far I can tell, I think I have set my own wages (well, no one has said "NO WAY" to me yet ). AND boss is another biker type. Can't wait to stick my fingers up to the benefits system and start being a productive member of the human race again.

    Too old?

AGEIST!!! I do agree with you though, unless you have the luxury of working entirely for yourself when time isn't an issue, your speed up a tree is important. That's one of the reasons i stopped all that climbing stuff: i was safe, competant but just not fast enough . Depends what type of work that you want to get into as well - doing fiddly little fruit tree prunings, for eg, isn't as reliant on speed as LA Plane avenues. I'd still say give it a try.
  20. OMG, that just adds so much weight to my arguments for not going out in the rain. One up on coronet cuts though
  21. Shame you didn't get your test done before the numpties in charge brought in the new one last month . The bike itself isn't the most expensive bit - it's all the lurvelee add ons and upgrades and garage extensions and bike meets ad infinitum that'll keep you poor. And extremely happy
  22. Guns and previous 'habits'??? Now there's a scary combination . Not sure i'd want to bump into you on a dark night. LoL.
  23. Ha, saw the thread title and thought of elocution and deportment lessons . I'm wrong, aren't i?
  24. And down hill mountain biking is, of course, totally safe with no chance of fubar'd knees...

The climbing or the watching ?
