  1. Right,A snap hook would pass loler if it functioned properly,I would also make a comment on the loler inspection sheet that it was not approved in Arboriculture as its not industry best practice to use it.So if its used in a system i could fail it. Not sure what any other loler inspectors think.
  2. Anyone watching this on Discovery channel?
  3. I was talking to Liam from Treevolution 3 years ago at the Arb fair & he could remember the weight issue. Just remembered the best person to contact about anything with the treemotion is Chris Cowell as im sure he had some input in its design.
  4. yeah i saw that job on the Directgov/ jobs website & type in the following Arborists all of UK,Forestry all of UK & Tree Surgeons all of UK there are loads of jobs advertised & i have seen a few new ones on Arbjobs like the one mentioned above.
  5. thanks mate.lol gdgd,I start monday & am on a first aid course in the morning down Nottinghamshire so early start for me up at 5 me thinks, lol
  6. dave, does it say what decibel level the peltor ear defenders are rated for as i would be good to compare decibel readings?. Hows Bramble?
  7. The last i heard you wernt allowed to use peakless helmets or any other helmets intended to be used on the ground as they only have a chin strap clipped either side of helmet. You now have to use a helmet that has a 3point harness(this may only be a recomendation) but you know what insurance companies are like if theres an accident. I still prefer the Petzl but as Brian says use either the Husky set up or the Sordin ear muffs as they muffle more noise out.
  8. At one time you where taught never have a saw attached to your harness over a certain weight,if anyone can remember the old FTC training leaflets that was replaced by the Fastco & now the Afag safety leaflets. You can do all the cuts right but that does not mean one time something is not going to happen. I have seen it & experienced it my self on occasions.
  9. A big saw shouldnt really be attached to your harness as it should be supported by the lads on the ground using a tool line. There has been accidents when lads have used big saws which where attached to their harness which got caught in the kerf of the cut,Thus taking saw & climber with cut peice of timber & in one case snapping the climbers anchor point out. I know its tedious but if it means reducing accidents im all for it.
  10. I hardly use the rear attechment point for my saw as i use the right hand side d ring to clip it to. Someone may say something about my side strop getting in the way but my side strop is clipped onto the D`s next to the bridge, that way i can hang off my side D`s in comfort, lol
  11. GPMC Projects Ltd They do line work & are just starting a tree cutting section & im going to help set it up so bit of a challange.
  12. After nearly 2 month i have at last found employment paying a living wage. Good luck to all you lads out there looking for work,Keep your chins up & keep looking at the various job sites like directgov/work & arb jobs.
  13. I went for this job but was pipped to the post by all accounts.
  14. A good climber does not make you a good tree worker, that only comes from experience imo.
  15. I just made a statement to a post thats all.
  16. All i did was state a point & thats the last im saying on the subject.
  17. You stated you would put me up,you did not say anything about wanting board & lodgings,I was only on the phone when i didnt have owt to do & even then it was only when i received a msg as my relationship was going down the pan. Yes i was out of work & was seeking work & thats why i came down.
  18. True but you didnt offer anything else either,If you see a good worker/climber you offer them what you can afford if you want to have them on board but you didnt. As i stated you pay a worker what he is worth & if you offer peanuts you should expect monkeys
  19. Wear Class A trousers & HSE cant do naff as you have just cause but put it in your risk assesment to cover your butt so to speak
  20. yeah if you can train one up to do the work & just pay in Bananas & peanuts but im sure the animal welfare groups wouldnt like it,lol
  21. Thats why i didnt take the job,Dont get me wrong Dave is a great bloke but is just really starting out so he has to keep his out goings down but if you pay peanuts all your going to get is monkeys.
  22. Yes & i have been in the industry climbing for 16 years or so & have all chainsaw units upto 41 apart from windblow, along with unit 1,2 & 5 utility,Pa1 & Pa6a along with being a loler inspector.
  23. As you offered me £350 on the books or £360 self employed & in your statement i pay my men nearer the £400 mark.
