  1. I thought the application dead line for SSE is the 24th july?,I was phoned to be informed that i was on the short list for interviews as a supervisor but have a job now.
  2. My fly failed at the bottom of mine & i thought we bother with the agro just get needle & thread out & stitch just above the broken part of zip where teeth had pulled out. All sorted for the price of needle & thread.
  3. these are the factors of which you devide the MBS Metal work divide by 5 Rope by 10 Textiles by 7
  4. When i was taught MBS stood for Minimum Breaking Strain which you could equate to SWL safe working Load.
  5. In jersey we had a foam insert that went inside the air filter & a band that went around the outside of the airfilter what a big difference it made.
  6. The point im getting at is if someone is making lowering devices at home or work & selling them how do we tree surgeons know the safety rating. Anyone who has done the Loler course with Liam & Richard at Treevolution would of seen home made lowering devices which have failed.
  7. If its tested to 5 ton & has a safe max load of 3 tons(3000kg) i would say the safe working load is more like 600Kg. & any kit should carry the CE mark.
  8. Brian has the lowering device been tested & CE marked?
  9. Aint started yet mate, waiting for tilhill to pull there finger out to sort out my safety induction

  10. Well Done, A Certificate of Competence is valid for life but the HSE would like people to do refresher courses every 5 years so im lead to believe.
  11. I have a job to start,Im just looking at the Arb industry as a whole. I was earning that about 10 years ago. As i said at start of thread ok if you have kids & claiming tax credits etc.

    Wages

I know this subject has been covered in other threads and i know what everyone thinks they should be paid but how many of you that work for a good company who has a partner & kids that get top ups like Tax credits? If you didnt get Tax credits etc would you be able to support yourself? The reason im asking this is while looking for employment the wages that was on offer only benifited people as above if you know what i mean. Your Views & opinions please people.
  18. LMAO brian, Nah im still in gods country mate.
  19. Marc i think if you look back you will see that i did state that i would pass a snap hook but also mark on inspection sheet that its not recomended for use.
  20. If you have a snap hook on why dont you just cut it off & replace it with a 3way krab?
  21. Is your Snap Hook 3Way???? If not its not recomended. Loler inspectors are meant to inspect equipment "In Fear Nor Favour" so make of that as you will. You lot do & think what you want but forget Insurance companies like to get out of paying if they can find something not right.
  22. All depends what methods you were taught or use,Some people use both ends of their Climbing rope & you are meant to be standing on a limb while using your side lanyard,so therefore your weight will not be supported by the lanyard & this is in the approved code of practice. I know everyone cuts corners & 99.9% of times you get away with things but its just that .1% when you can become unstuck & if there is an investigation there could be problems for you. These are just my veiws.
  23. I used that saw of Dave`s when i was down cornwall & found it a dream to use as you could get into tight spaces with the end of bar.
  24. To be honest that would be ok to use 10mm rope for an adjustable Lanyard as its really only a secondary anchor to stop you from swinging & not a main lifeline.
  25. It is not approved in the approved code of practice for Arboriculture as stated in the Good Tree Climbing Practice. I think you will find that if it is written on your inspection sheet that its not recomended for use in tree work & you have an accident that the HSE are brought in to investigate they will ask to see your inspection sheets & could ask why you carried on using it which could also affect your insurance. If a Loler inspector deems a peice of kit unsafe to use & the user carrys on using it they have a right to inform relavent authorites about it.
