  3. Hi Mick, Have you tried Nick @ Stumpbusters 0208 857 6178 or Big Phil Green, Cant find his number!! Someone on here knows Phil though i'm sure. Good luck Beezy
  4. I've only just been able to log on too.
  5. Hello mate, No worries on the advice, helps me to remember the good times! Yes lots of different visas tbh, if you are under 30/31 cant remember, you can get a WHM visa (working holiday visa) lasts for a year, but limits employment in one place i think. Then there's the sponsership route, check arbjobs.com for that, some Ozzie jobs with sponser option on there. Easier to find work when you are there, and you can go and see the firm/boss/yard and get a better feel for the company rather than risking a job offer on a long distance phone call, just get the yellow pages and ring around/doorknock, its easy, and bosses seem to like half decent british climbers as the quality of work is ..usually good! IMO ozzies are good guys to work with/for, up for a laugh, lots of banter and my boss was really good to the boys, fair pay and a couple of trips away to a little fishing town for beer, surf and jet skis (256 bhp supercharged!!) just remember, like the UK, firms are good and bad, and the work (state by state dependant) is often very large removals and then heavy lopping! as the Eucs grow very quickly due to ideal conditions. My big tree experience went skyhigh when i got there, awesome climbs!! but you do get sensitive reductions in victoria/south oz as climate is a little cooler. Do your homework, visit the Oz embassy/website, usual stuff on there, and then you can claim all your taxback when and if you come home! Hit me back or PM with anymore questions. Cheers Beezy
  6. Cheers one and all, A great bunch of boys talking crap around a fire in the woods! a great Sunday! Thanks Mark for the perfect venue, and Rich for the go on the ropewalker, nice bit of kit, i'm defo getting a little shopping list together, funnily enough cheap undercooked yet totally burnt sausages won't be appearing!! Keen for another gettogether whenever, hopefully a stopover so a few beers can be consumed??! Cheers again Beezy
  7. Hi Mate, I did a 16 month stint in Western Oz, amazing place, and a little more chilled than the East Coast, but still heaps of tree work, of all types with good firms to cowboy outfits which I guess is the same the world over. In short answers to your questions.... - Savings totally depend on how quick you are to start working, or do you want to chill out/explore/travel before getting tied into work, and how plush you want to do it, Hostels - Hotel? - Kit (climbing) is expensive, so I would recommend taking your own, or shipping it out to arrive before or after. - There is a lot opf work about as said good firms to bad, do your homework, and doorknocking when there, a good qualified climber is worth a bit in Ozzy, and you can earn decent money and progress, (visa dependant) - Leads on to sponsership, possible, thats how i got to stay in WA, but is a red tape mission!! took 4 months for me, luckily the firm i worked for let me work cash in hand whilst the visa was approved. - Cost of living on a par with UK tbh, used to be really cheap esp if travelling on the strond pound, now thats shot, its much of a muchness tbh. and what you want too spend your hard earned on?! - Hostels are cheap and plentiful and a there is a mind of info on hand (hardened backpackers) that will tell you whats good and whats not, search for wheels, loads of cheap deals from travellers returning home and need to sell up evrything they have collected during their year, some serious bargains to be had! Mate, you will love it, I have ben there 3 times now, 1 time travelling two times working, and have travelled around the entire country, so feel free to ask any qustions! Are you entering on WHM visas? if so a tip, arb/forestry work can qualify as agriculture work like fruit picking and i think... if you spend 3 months or more on yourvisa doing this you can then qualify for a second year extension...check that though!! Good luck mate, and enjoy the ride!! Beezy
  8. Yes Rich, looking good that i'll be there. It will be great to put names to posts, and chew the Arb fat and a bit of climbing/gear test for good measure. Any ideas on meet times yet? I'll check back on original post to not de-rail. Cheers
  9. You may well be right Rich. I need to try a few more harneses tbh, rather than getting the same one each time it's renewed. Would like to give a Tmotion a proper road test. I will make a concerted effort at this years Arb shows, and spend less time in the beer tent.....maybe!
  10. Don't want to de-rail, but I very briefly tried my mates TM on the other day and really liked the fit and comfyness, although i've always been a Komet Dragonfly diehard, enjoying the bosun(sp!?) seat style. Is there a seat that can be fitted to a Tmotion? Cheers
  11. I've taken climbing kit to Oz before, in the hold luggage, never a chainsaw though. You have to ensure it's totally free of any dirt/sawdust etc to allow entry through customs with their strict regs. I spent ages going over it with a brush and an airline, to make sure it was as clean as I could get it, they seemed happy enough, but took my boots off me for a scrub down! Where you off to ging?
  12. Cheers mate, Looking forward to it! and the pointing and laughing as my little Golf gets down to her axels!! Cant wait to sit on that dreamy woodland thunderbox too Rich! is that cone chapter 8 compliant?? Beezy
  13. Evening Chaps, Just checking if this Sunday's get together is on? Trying to get over for a bit if I can, what time, and is it the directions Gollum posted one page back, and is it suitable for a non 4x4? Looking forward to meeting you, what do i need to bring apart from climbing bits....you can keep the chillies i'm afraid!! LOL. Cheers Beezy
  14. Blurb says....MPG's Urban: 29.1 - 28.7 Extra Urban: 44.6 - 44.0 Combined: 37.1 - 36.7 Average: 34.8 Cruising range with full tank: 640 miles Err WTF is Extra Urban! Good numbers though
  15. Hi Nick, Where are you based mate? Get your buddy to stick it up here on the classifieds. I'd be interested to see it, after a L200 myself. Cheers
  16. Yes, similar shape to the Toyota it has to be said, but its own style all the same, pretty chunky and rugged, i really liked the shape, not sure about the square wheel arches though? So Amarok is American Indian for ....Wolf apparently...mmmm haunting! Here comes da math! 6 speed 2L BiTDI (163PS) Shiftable 4MOTION or Permanent 4WD torque: 400/1,750 payload: 862 - 1,047 Trailer weight: 2,800kg Roof load limit: 100kg max speed: 112mph 0-60: 10.8secs Been checking out early reviews from Europe and its meant to be the mutts nutts off road and general day to day.
  17. Hi All, Here's one for all the VW fans, me included! Numerous MkII Golfs, A sweet 2.8V6 Synchro Passat, now a GTi Golf. So headed along for a squizz at their latest offering a new 4x4 pick up. Interior is really nice, solid and practical build, has some funky decent control and is meant to be class leading fuel economy. Release date of March, and only 900 due into the country! Starting price for base version ITRO 16k, not bad! Here's the pics, shame about the horrible colour!
  18. Hi mate, So just to clarify. Are you PAYE mon-fri (for instance), and do private work that you declare on the weekend, and providing its below the treshold you dont pay tax/NI? So do you fill out a self-assess form for the private stuff? Cheers
  19. Hello Mate, Sounds typical that, half way through a job!! Could try this firm, SHB 4x4 Group - Vehicle Hire, Sales and Servicing they supply heaps of 4x4's to large contractors/festivals etc. Good luck
  20. Why is it 1 hour ahead in Arbtalk land? Posting times seem 1 hour ahead? Is there a moderator in the house.... Edit. it changed as soon as i posted...i need a lie down!
  21. I used a headed carbon copy pad to quote for the firm I worked for in Oz, had all the T&C's printed on the back, it's a good way around the quoting side of things (no paperwork in the evening), you can give it to them straight away, or post it through the door, and some peeps like the upfront approach, the ozzies seemed to almost expect it! That said, the older school folk often only like a written, posted quote, so they can phone you up and accept your quote! Horses for courses I guess, I like to go away and send something through the post personally. Good thread.
  22. [ame=http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yo3M6EB8kmk]http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yo3M6EB8kmk[/ame] Evening All, Just an awesome little promo vid from the HD Pro boys, for those thinking about splashing out on a helmet cam. That said, my Gfriend got a Drift cam from her bro and sis for Christmas, although she wasn't so fussed by it, I was all over on our recent ski trip, and will defo get it on for some tree work! Enjoy the vid, bet you watch it to the end!! The Beezy
  23. Its a really good course IMO mate. Well worth doing, well recognised within the industry and sits nicely alongside other acedemic courses. A good balance of classroom and practical, and get the right group, a really good bit of banter/networking to be had. Don't know where you are based, but for the record, I did mine with Landskills training in Dorking, Surrey. Great trainer and training. Do it.
  24. On a similar note, I do logs for myself and friends/family from takedowns, so no way commercial like some of you boys, but to have up the sleeve when the maul simply bounces off for tricky, knotty chunks, this little fella from screwfix is gold! Roughneck Wood Grenade Log Splitter - Screwfix.com, Where the Trade Buys For £8.50, it's a no-brainer, and works! Even split knarly (Dead) Elm, power itinto the centre of the log, get a little worried that it's going to burry itself in....then pop, the log busts apart! Won't last forever. But defo recommended.
  25. Great pics! Did you explain to the customer the clean up won't be prisitine, especially on a Beech that shatters on impact! Doh, snow fun!
