  5. Its sad to hear that a tree surgeon was killed this week while working on a Scottish power line clearance contract. I heard that he was a very experienced man and that the top of a tree snapped out when a tree that was felled caught it snapping it out and hitting the man on the ground. This is a stark reminder of the dangers involved in what we do . BE SAFE !
  6. Thanks for that it all sounds really good i have just got to get the job now, it was quite positive when i spoke to david but it all depends on tim moving over to a training and consulting role so i can fill his position on the tree gang so fingers crossed.

  9. Why not go on the flat rate scheme where you charge 15% give the vat man half and keep half the down side is that you cant claim back vat on kit and fuel. i think you can on big machinery now and again but if you claim back less than half each quarter then its worth looking in to but its capped at maximum earnings around £220000 pa to qualify
  10. Iv had problems with the switch on the stop bar with same symptoms as yours replaced and then worked fine

  18. I was watching road runner and whyley coyote the other day where the coyote tied a big rock to a nice little pulley system so he could drop it on roadrunner as he ran past ithink that it could be adapted for tree work it would just need a capstan to slow it Dow a bit all the stuff is available from acme corp it was on the Disney channel last Tuesday about 4ish if thats any help as for sizes and weights the rock he had looked about 10 tons so more than ample
  19. You are entitled to 24 days holiday, minimum wage and if you haven't been given a contract 1 months wages at a tribunal, the law is heavily weighted on your side and at the end of the day your employer sounds like a right nob!! taking you for a ride, if i was you id tell him to stick the job at the end of the day you can ear three times that amount flipping burgers at mac d's, with holiday!! tree works good mate but at the end of the day its just a means of putting food on the table and you cant live on bread and water for long. Good Luck!!
  20. sorry what i was saying i had lads working for me who could not tow so i did my calculations and worked out that i could just about get away wit a tracked chipper in my transit and anyone wit a licence could drive it but as i found out passengers and kit will take the van over 3500 kg that's why i was overloaded. Your problem will be if you travel more that 50 km from base with a train weight of more that 3500 kg and that's when u need a tacho
  21. yes you are cruising for a bruising i have been done for putting a tracked chipper in the back of a transit "over loaded",trying to get around the pre 97 towing law. Then went to pick it up on a trailer and got stopped at a different vosa station and they were going to do me for not keeping driver records and not having tacho fitted, its only because it was 4.30 on a Friday and they were knocking off work that i got away with it. If the government wants to know why the country is on its ass they have only got there self to blame why cant they let us just go and earn a living!!!
  22. I have looked in to it rents a bit pricey
