  8. yep i got that to billy wilsons mobile number if you need it is 07747081444
  9. Yes its worked out if you have 12mm line 1200kg bs working on a safety factor of 10/1 so you can only load that line to 120 kg and a 12 in diameter log 4ft long 50kg say its got 1ft of free fall before the line tightens which will double the weight of the log in effect making a 50 kg log weigh 100 kg for example, that is the general theory to do it safely and no wreck your kit .We can and have lowered massive bits of wood but once you do the maths you then realise the implications of such actions. all above figures are for illustration only
  10. I have got some spare saws for sale stihl ms200 341 and husky 357 and a pole saw but it needs a head on it, if any of them are any good to get you out the crap. I know how it feels mate been there my self a few times.
  11. best advice yet i used to run husky 357s but husky have gone down hill since they stopped making 254's so i tried stihl 361's and haven't looked back since 10 times better to run. "and i didnt think id be saying that 5 years ago"
  12. I got it fixed again and sold it on not heard anything back so must be working ok i still have a pto bandit to shift cheap if you know anyone who's intrested. Still working for myself got plenty to keep me going.Always available if you need a machine driver, if you get one that is, or climber for that matter. Who do you play rugby for i have played for keresley over the last 8 years wondering if we have traded blows in the past lol!
  13. i did an advanced rigging course a few years back with paulo baveresco he is the man to contact he has done all the research for british standard and will have all the answers you should be able to google him if not i can get his number for you as a rule he says for every inch diamiter of log you should have 1mm of rope on a 4ft length eg: 16in dia x 4ft long log you need minimum of 16mm rope on an 8inch log you can go 8 ft long easy peasey!! no getting pen and paper out when you are up a tree
  14. only used one for getting branches out of water dont think they would be for climbing though would be good for pulling yourself over to other trees, save coming down to go back up again.
  15. you can get a vehicle down rated just by filling a form out at a vosa centre. so change 5.2 ton plate to 3.5 ton you just cant run it over 3.5 ton without breaking the law .the only other way i know is to get it plated special types and you could run it on red aswell.
  16. I have a broad spectrum hobby wise weekends moto x with my oldest boy game shooting in the winter ,deer stalking when ever i can get away , rugby when ever im asked "i play for the vets now bit long in the tooth" then theirs a wife and 4 kids and a buisness to run. i dont know how i manage
  17. you can get bridges and the d's for a butterfly/dragonfly from buxton's of cannock and the will fit most harnesses that have the bridging type of attachment or just use a mailon
  18. what are the clutch springs like if one is weak or broken it may push the drum off centre. running out of answers on this one!! you must be pulling your hair out.
  19. if you are thinking roof mounted make sure the base unit is tiptop i would recomend a new valtra with reverse drive i bought second hand and it nearly sent me under with a hydraulics problem £30000.00 in three months in repair costs and only managed about 1 weeks work in that time so beware! you can get a new machine with fantastic deals and you have all the warranty
  20. I looked in to mowi cranes a while ago i think they are ok but you need a lot of height to opperate them as they don't boom out they say that they are a faster system but i ended up getting a botex roof mounted and had no problems with that i would recomend botex to anyone. as for mowi i think that if you are working up close to the machine then boom height could be an issue
  21. yeh until that gear that needs paying for every month keeps breaking down and can't earn and just cost's and then theres no staff to do the job to pay the bills. Its all about finding a happy medium staff and kit are both needed they both bring a little stress at times but we need them to earn the money! catch 22
  22. Check that you havent bent the crank shaft when taking the clutch off .
  23. I would also say if you go as a subbie climber you need to be prietty good and hard working as you rely on repeat custom, then there is all the kit, loler inspections, diesel, vehicle costs, kit repairs, oh nearly forgot Insurance to consider. if you have a job i would surgest sticking with it for a year or two and wait for things to pick up a bit, experiance is the key in this job and if you do have a go on your own research it first and dont go in blind because you wont last long if you do. Good luck
