I live in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island BC and work for Davey tree i would choose BC every time over Alberta, it gets very cold in the winters in Alberta - 20's and high 30's in the summer Vancouver Island has the best climate in Canada we have the mountain's for winter sports and the ocean and rivers for the summer and the best salmon fishing in the world. Vancouver is more expensive than Calgary but the Island is much cheaper and nicer in my opinion we also have big trees in BC where Alberta are more like the size you find in the UK.   11. The tree was badly rotten at the base and it was also 10 ft across and 10 ft up it was better wood and only 6 ft across and i didnt want to do it off a lanyard as the tree was so decayed i wanted to be able to get the f out of there if it started to collapse
  12. You just fall a small tree rip a board out of the center about 3 in thick then cut in to the tree 5 - 6 inches three lines top middle and bottom 3 in high break the bits out with an axe and put you board in if its loose ad a wedge under it its that easy
  13. No it was in a national park all the timber stays it was pretty rotten only about 4in sapwood where i cut it

  18. I work for Davey Tree but you have Bartletts Asphlund and then all the smaller firms that you can google

I am a brit living and working in british coumbia Canada tree work over here is a lot more expencive than the UK 2 men truck and chipper around $1500 per day that's about £1000 pay is around the same as the UK $20 - 25 per hour for a climber fallers in the bush earn around $650 per day for 6.5 hrs union regulated hrs gas is cheap here food and living not so cheap at the end of the day it works out about the same cost to live
  20. We were blowing up the danger trees that were in poor condition if we felt they were ok to climb and top safely we did out of 17 trees taken down ithink he blew up 11, and I climbed 5 and another guy did the rest. It was a fun 3 days
  21. if you cant handle them by hand free line them out, steel carabiners and strops girth hitch to the branch you are cutting static line attached below the cut controlled at the other end by ground man 10 strops and carabiners you can soon have that tree down to the chipper
  22. We had the road closed for around 30 - 40 mins per tree we just pushed the trunks in to the bush with the mini ex gave the road a quick rake and blow then let them back through
  23. just using it advance the rope up the tree as the guy was struggling to get a line in the tree that is our 100ft mewp maxed out to give you an idea of the size of trees he wasnt even half way up
