Throughstones....essential to tie tha wall together. In some ares of the country they put a course of them in....i didnt notice any on the original pics on this thread tho....

I have to disagree with mozza a bit. It is possible to find mechanically sound-ish defenders for the money, but they invariably look pretty tired.....I have to say that you may well be throwing money away on a 2k disco for work....you can get discos for sub 1k at the mo with t&t too.

That is well nice....you have achieved all the necessaries for a good pointed wall...every stone level and the right way up, and even sized joints all round each stone...That is a really nice wall David. I love the way that you have a few stones proud of the rest, like the one at the end of the twiggy branch, and above the bush....or are my eyes deceiving me. Lovely mix of colour in the stone too. Is that what the local stone is like, and where are you based in Yorkshire?

Tghere is nothing on a landy that isnt easily removed......I think the rear bulkhead is only held to the rest of the vehicle by about 10 bolts!!

Whatever you do, the best advice for buying your first landy would be have someone there who knows them well, and who can establish which bits are problems, and which bits are landy traits....

No offence to Rob, but that would be criminal to mill with a chain mill. Get it to a bandsaw mill mate, too much waste otherwise.

Nice one. The guy who owns that property bought it as a dilapidated farm that hadnt been worked for 4 years, and spent about 3 million converting the barns and renovating the house. He was a retired 43 y.o ex banker.....he had just had a 10mil retirement handshake!!! Mesmear Check it out.

If its on a M plate it could be a 200 tdi, just. Did they have chains?

A belt. The worst that can happen in a 300tdi if the belt snaps is 4 pushrods will be bent. Great eh!

It was a pretty good number for a couple of years- i could earn almost what i earn on arb work, but with just a hammer and chisel. It was my body and a basic boredom with the job that stopped me. I never intended to do anymore than help out a mate from time to time, and it ballooned for a couple of years. Tennis elbow eventually stopped everything, and was the excuse i needed to get back into arb stuff, which had taken somewhat of a back seat at the time.

No, the wall is almost solid stone at the left hand end, or the second pic, with about 12" of soiul in the top to plant into. Further doen the slope the wall thickens to about 9' wide at its widest point just to the left of the tree, and is esentially two 3-4' wide dry walls (with stones intelocking and laid in, not just tipped in the void) with shellit (stony slaty subsoil stuff) and 803 rattled in there and the void in the middle between the two faces filled with whatever we could get our hands on on site- rubble etc etc.

When using random stones which dont lend themselves to being 'worked' the best way to get it looking tidy is by 'pitching' the stones......

I felled one for a mate last year and he has been burning it overe this winter. Reckoned it was ok, but didnt last that long.

I cant think of many if any timbers that are worth more as firewood than sawn timber, its just that the returns take longer to get.

Dont really know how well it burns, but it is very high quality timber and pretty prized when milled......
