  5. A client of mine has discovered these little nasties all over her Damson Tree. I have not got a clue what they are. Please can someone advise what they are and any action required. Thanks. First two shots are the leave infestation and the last is a fungi of some sort?

  7. You need to do a search on the forums as these questions have been asked many times before, with a number of differing answers and opinions. Welcome to the forum mate.
  8. Here's one I made for my birthday bash. To make one, cut a decent diameter log, about 9 - 12 inch diameter and 18 inch long. Make vertical cuts from top down to about 3 inches from base. Don't go too far or the base will split. You can do either 6 cuts or 8. I prefer 8, it gets more air in. Tip upside down and tap out sawdust, then to get better drying, blow out sawdust with leafblower, you will be surprised how much comes out. Dry for a few weeks unless timber is already seasoned. To light, drop a few unlit matches down centre. Also a good squirt of ronson lighter fluid. wait 5 seconds and drop a lit match down centre. It will light then possibly go out. Just wait..... the air flow will blow air throughout the gaps and the candle may smoulder for a few minutes. It will then re-ignite on it's own. Here's the photos. Enjoy!
  9. TIMBER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fell it
  10. I'd go out on my own if you are not happy with the guaranteed rate?
  11. Just finished one and only callout for today. Split Pussy Willow overhanging next door's shed. Took one of the top branches out and was swaying around like a monkey, got my silkie scabbard caught and next thing the scabbard snaps pulling the saw out straight across my arm. Did'nt notice the cut until the customer pointed out all the blood across my forearm! He said you must be mad to do this and gave me a £20.00 tip!
  12. Same here. Lets hope we get some good gusts in Cheshire!!
  13. Here's one I made . Dried for 3 months . Drop some lighter fluid down the centre and a match. If you need one to dry quickly, chainsaw all the bark off as well:thumbup:
  14. Joy you could not have put it any better. I have just finished a 10 hour stint logging in my yard. I don't moan about labour costs I just get on and do it every day I don't have tree work, because when it goes quiet in the winter I will have an asset that I can sell. and yes they are all arisings from my jobs and I can charge what I like to get some sort of income from the leaner months. This 10% hike to the 'toffs'????????????????/ Get in the real world man. They are the tightest!
  15. I have had a request to transplant a Japanese Maple. It has a crown of 5ft diameter with a stem diameter of about 5 inches. It is very healthy and in full leaf. The client has just moved in and is landscaping the whole garden. The tree is to be moved about a mile down the road to her mother's house. I am sure this is not the best time to do this but the client needs it doing this week? Any advice on trying to save it?
  16. Thanks for all the advice. Will speak with client and offer all your opinions:thumbup:
