  1. Phellinus tuberculosus - David Humphries’s Fungi Directory - Arbtalk.co.uk | Discussion Forum for Arborists ??? Can't tell from the pic but is the white stuff mycelium in the wood
  2. Glad its not just me- it is a pain!
  3. Diameter at Breast Height- the diameter about 1.5m from ground level
  4. PM Rob D, he may be interested in milling it. Or maybe not after the one he milled for one of my customers Charlie
  5. I'd recommend speaking to Jonesie if you want a new one, always great service and price. If you are on a budget why is yours not fixable?
  6. My local trailer sales place told me this has changed, and you can tow 3500kg gross trailer as long as it does not exceed 3000kg loaded? Not sure if thats true. If over 3500KG train weight (truck/trailer combo) then you need a tacho unless you claim exemption- under 50km not driving for hire/reward. I checked with my local VOSA office- I am exempt for 'driving to a site with tools and driving away with a tree in the trailer' when i checked Not sure about keeping milage records? Never heard of it, but i thought EVERYONE driving for work (even a car) need to have breaks/working hours the same as HGV drivers (45mins break every 4.5hours)? Driver CPC- similar exemption if you are not 'driving for hire or reward'. E.g. delivering logs with train weight over 3500kg you will need tacho and CPC!
  7. Who is doing the demo? Greenmech dealer? I'm very close, see your van around alot Charlie.
  8. I'm just down the road from you, and have the 18HP greenmech if you want to see how they work (if you are having to wait for a demo or something). It may be up for sale in the not too distant future. Charlie
  9. Plus less chance of disturbing nesting birds
  10. Pretty sure you can have 4250Kg train weight on a license with no trailer test- if its a 750Kg trailer... My local ifor dealer told me last summer they had changed the rules so you can tow bigger. For example my L200 can only tow 2700Kg but could tow a trailer plated to 3500Kg as long as its laden weight never exceeds the 2700Kg... I have not confirmed it yet but he seemed to know his stuff... What the others said. But watch out for dodgy HGV training companies- I trained with one called AdvantageHGV and it was not a pleasant experience, I would recommend you avoid them and similar companies. Type the company name into google and look for 'reviews' before going ahead. I have heard alot of people fail because you have to reverse and hitch up in one attempt! Watch bad habits like crossing hands- better to get out of the habit a week before the training so you can concentrate on learning more important stuff. Charlie
  11. Off the top of my head its 17 to do B+E (trailer license) 18 to do C1 (7.5ton truck no trailer) and 21 to do the others. Don't forget about tachographs.... Charlie.
  12. Yes, the rules are ridiculous sometimes! Reason i did HGV1 was because it meant i could drive anything (cost about £2000), just to do trailer test i was quoted about £1000, and apparently the test is harder!
  13. You can tow 750KG, like a small chipper. There is a complicated rule- something like you can tow 3500KG minus your landy's GVW (2400KG?) allowing you to tow 1100KG. as long as this does not exceed your UNLADEN weight. - Google it. Charlie.
  14. I don't think you are suppose to specify 'pre 97' in a job advert- age discrimination apparently!! But it is perfectly fine to say 'must have C1+E driving license'. Would you apply to drive HGVs and say its not fair because you don't have an HGV license? Twistedhicap- are you sure about that? I did my HGV 1 and 2, and I definitely have B+E on my license. If you do a test, you are given all entitlements below that, e.g do a C test you get C1, do your C+E and you get C1+E and B+E. Charlie
  15. I'm young and insure a private 4x4 for business use. CIS (or co-operative?) were half the price of everyone else for me AND the only company to offer me insurance to drive any vehicle third party! Don't think NFU will help you till you are 25 unless a family member has insurance with them... stupid. C
  16. How many whips do you think 1 man can plant in a day?
  17. Don't be silly! 3 figures - £100 I meant over 100,000 so 6 figures
  18. How longs a piece of string!? Someone near me recently bought loads of acres for 5-10K/acre. A house down the road needed 1 acre for a garden/parking before it could be sold... they were charged well into 3 figures for 1 acre!!!
  19. Very interesting thread... wish I could contribute something to it but alot of it goes over my head.... I have been reading 'The body language of trees' by Mattheck, so how do we distinguish 'normal body language' and 'the body language of decay'. For example I found an oak with a slight lean the other day, bark clearly 'stretched' on the tension side and 'buckled' (if thats the right term) on the compression side. Is this a possible sign of decay or something you would expect to see on any leaning tree? A picture speaks a thousand words so i'll try and get photos for you.... Charlie.
