  1. I'm looking to buy my first saw But I have a long term injury (RSI type thing) in my right arm, and using a saw for long periods can aggravate it. Its mainly the vibrations, but heavy things and the cold can also affect it. So i'm looking for: Low vibrations Reasonable weight for using everyday Enough power to run 15" bar comfortably Maybe a heated handle (although that adds weight) Stihl, as i've had good experience with them I will always keep it well sharpened, and use 'low vibration' chain. The MS260s at college are ok, but the MS280i and MS341 are meant to have much lower vibration levels. Any advice on which saws to look at would be appreciated. Thank you, Charlie.
  2. I don't understand how using a pulley system helps to climb up the tree? Used one on a lanyard and once for branch walking and is great especially tightening one handed, but can't see the benefit of using it to climb. I will try it this weekend.
  3. Wasn't expecting it to cut through that fast! Its not advised 'best practice' to anchor in twice when using a silky is it? should be!
  4. I thought you needed a safety factor of 20 where a life depends on it? If so what if you had a 150Kg climber? would they need 30Kn equipment? From a sheet in front of me: "Generally a SWL of 10:1 is recommended. This can be increased to 20:1 for more extreme situations where property or lives are at stake" might be talking about rigging though?
  5. love the pollards at hatfield... live just down the road where you from? From what i've learnt at college they are called adventitious roots, and can form from any dormant bud if the conditons are right (dark, wet)
  6. I still want to climb big trees in southend or suffolk? If so sounds very good Been to the top of the Zelcova, lovely tree! i seriously doubt stewart would let us loose climbing in capel! charlie
  7. Sounds good, shame about cs38/9. but better than NC/ND, no tickets included! jeans and trainers in the classroom chainsaw boots trousers ect when we're on a practical (only fridays at the moment)
  8. I was, on another tree i think. so how long does the apprenticeship take? you done your CS38 yet? Want to do mine ASAP but need to find 3 others to do it...
  9. Yes, doing NC. I might recognize you, Andy D got you to do aerial rescues with someone in my class? Epping forest sounds good
  10. I go to capel, I don't think they'd let anyone climb on site without supervision. Health and safety... I'd love to have a fun climb with some people, i've just bought climbing gear, no cs38 yet, I'm competant but not fast! Live just north of london too charlie.
