  1. Army gear, i got some army stuff can be out in it all day and stay completelyu dry no leaky seams or zips, spot on.
  2. theres alot of mention in here of the rat eof an employed climber...what is your average employed climber paid?
  3. as inthe title really who (not business owners) supplies their own PPE and climbing gear saws etc as a self employed regular for a small business? Just want to see how it is for most people as there seems to be no real standards for governing this unless you get really serious and trying to assess my own situation.
  4. Motocross, Downhill mountain biking and road cycling keep me poor:thumbup:
  5. doesn't look too out of place with all the other piles of hardcore around the place though.
  6. Does anyone else find that loads of dust gets in your eyes through the gap between the top of the mesh visor and the helmet? doesn't happen on the Petzl as the visor has a piece on it to stop this happening, is the clear visor any better for this?
  7. whippy little stick in the eye.. nightmare! sties form dust in the eyes, specially when cutting gobs in the tree that fine dust that goes straight through the visor horrid stuff .
  8. I have climbed 3 times had to dismantle and rig 3 Ash yesterday that were 20-25m, they had ivy about a third of the way up i reckon i got up and had an anchor in, in about 15-20 minutes I really struggle climbing ivy so theres a beginners time for you. felt quicker than that but i bet it wasn't:thumbdown: Forgot to add that was using basic kit just mostly 1 end of the rope and a short strop with prussiks nothing fancy
  9. you attach the tree to the crane via slings, straps or chains, or whatever else will work
  10. probably only goes off when mixed? Who think all those opinions are for real "i must admit with arboroil all my worries are gone"
  11. could track across with a few stems at a time off a chain on a 360...would take forever though. they're not even that big.
  12. If everything is still a bit tangled up as i';d imagine it'll be easy to rake it all up with a 360 with a normal digging bucket on there, can deal with any stumps in there too....Probably the ideal tool for the whole job if total clearance was required.
  13. The 2.5NA transits are 76BHp,when new, or do you mean the newer ones?
  14. I didn;t know that, easy there htough lets not call a transit faster:scared1:, less slow maybe haha. I'd take a Sprinter with a tipper body over one any day.
  15. get a motorhome if you got the £££ my mate bought Fiat one for 22k 2-3 years ago and its still worth 18k to a dealer now they hold value very well. failing that i'b buy a LWB sprinter and it it out a bit inside more room than a caravan and you can go faster park and sleep anywhere etc. or be a true pikey and buy a transit and do the same:P
  16. Why/How is a LDV tougher than transit? same engine both rust like thres no tommorw and the tipper parts i'm guessing aren;t made by either of the respective companies, so whats the difference? both dirty, slow, loud cheap vehicles
  17. depends on the customer, don;t opften ask for it...at least 2 or 3 each. How's everyone feel about smokers? I don't often work with them...But in my opinon they can't be as efficient as a non smoking worker, don;t think i'd appreciate it if i was the boss.
  18. Yeah the nature of an accident means you don;t see it coming, but i read several cases which semed to be pure stupidity liek the tipper maintenence..and I have worked with countless bit sof plant nd tractors etc with no hand brake, or even brakes at all in some cases and don't let them roll away when i'm not looking. My family know alot of farmers, it was slightly tongue in cheek, but you know they were probably trying to save wear on the parking brake pads:001_tongue:
  19. NPTC is only the beginning, unless you do them after you have done a fair bit. I wouldn;t call comeone who'd first been introduced to a saw 6 months ago but got all their nptc's a tree surgeon.
  20. wouldn't go far without running out of petrol would you.
  21. CICA combined insurers of america or somehting alway shave reps at motocross tracks they pay big if you break bones (£1000 a piece) or have operations and/or do time but otherwise it isn't that lucrative. worth having though.
  22. shows me that farmers are generlly lacking upstairs, i read about 5 cases of them not applying parking brake on telehandler's and tractors and having them roll and crush them against feed bins and barns and stuff, also someone tipped a tipping trailer up then proceeded to disconnect one of the hydraulic pipes under the raised body...No need to say what happened next.
  23. Yeah I'm very aware of that...which is why i dind;lt put up any resistance to the pay when i started, as i'd been ou tof work landscaping and excavatng for months and anything was good at the time.
  24. I am 21, I was using saws for 2-3 years before doing my CS30 and 31 so have a fair amount of experience. I am a massive beleiver in skill over 'qualifications' when it comes to practical work, but they're a necessary evil. I operate 360 excavators from time to time and am pretty good on them and get paid twice what i am at the moment for that, but construction is pretty dead at the moment. Glad a few have said about £70 a day seems fair under the circumstances, as i was thinking that but thought i may have been being a bit too generous. Think i was taken on to drag brush and do menial tasks, it seemed to come as abit of a shock that i actually held chainsaw qualifications and that i'm not just another brainless monkey. I know people never take being asked for more money well though, and jobs aren't exactly abundant at the moment. How much value wuld you guys put on informal training? For climbing in this case, as he always mentons doing a few days teaching me it all so i can start to climb for him, which will be useful but no real offer of paying for the tickets. I am thinkingthe best way is to explain that i'm doing more than originally anticipated and i need a raise then let him think about it and come back to me?
