  1. 1st load of wood i had from euroforest they charged 5%, i had to phone them and told them i would be reselling it so then they sent new invoice with 17.5% on it
  2. Yea spose your right i am just very fussy, although the more pieces your log splits into the more bits that come off, a cleaning drum like the one palax make would be ideal but i priced one once and cant remember exact price but they are not cheap. still 26 ton in one day would be going some, straight softwood and you may do it.
  3. You would need all good straight timber to process 26 ton a day, but not too big if you want to keep nice sized logs without having to put them back through to resplit, also we find waste is a time consumer taking all the trash and logs that are too small out, unless your going to just let everything go in the trailer and let trade customer sort it. which would result in a lower price.
  4. I would of thought its your accounts job to know these things, thats what you pay him for, 5% retail to end user, 20% to trade
  5. This is what i am thinking, if not to charge more but to show your logs are up to standard thus getting more business:thumbup1:
  6. i counted 290 logs at 10" length once as i was having to throw them out at the time
  7. I think i cound meet the A1/A2 requirements, do they come and check you out, and what did it cost you? also it says logs have to be 10" this seems a bit odd as i have some customers who like longer logs, or can you sell these "out of the scheme":confused1:
  8. thinking after a few recent threads it may be worth joining HETAS, does any one no the standards/requirements that have to be met to get certified for selling firewood, does not give much info on the website and theres only about 10 log suppliers registered, Mike.
  9. i try not to put any thing bigger than 36cm through as then the logs dont need resplitting, going to 1/4 any bigger logs then put them through
  10. they are only £100 each + vat from flow fit (harrier) which is why i went for 3 also i priced up a dalen one which has one motor and chains, metal is like tin and they wanted £1600 which is why i built my own,
  11. Hi yes one motor with chains would work, but just seemed to be a lot easier to make to put 3 motors in series rather than having chains, sprokets covers etc, and if one motor packs up it can still be used with 2 or even one:001_smile:
  12. This is what i use as a log deck, i used to have the frame on a 7.5 ton scrap lorry with the crane on a old volvo tractor unit, then a manual roller on the back, i now have this artic trailer cut down with drawbar for tractor, with the crane mounted on the front run by pto, and a removable and height adjustable hyraulic infeed table i made on the back that plus into a 1 x 42, it holds enough wood to do about 12 cube if straight 10foot stuff piled up. got some twweks to do and getting some removable pins made so can also use it to collect timber
  13. I found this as well, last year new customers bought dry softwood off me as they had been sold wet hard wood and i had run out of dry hardwood, and now this year those same people have been the first ones to order to make sure they get some dry hardwood this year.
  14. We do 10 miles free then £1.50 a mile, its ok when not too busy but on a busy day better to do all local and get a few extra laods out.
  15. Hi i use 65x85 nets,i put 12/14 logs in nets, just fill the tray till its level so every bag has same quantity. The logs are cut to 10". think the tray is 11" wide.
  16. as said the fuelwood bagging tray works a treat, had mine for 3 years and done over 4000 nets with it and its still going strong:thumbup:
  17. Try looking round for your local coal merchants, i used to use cpl and they are far dearer than a smaller "family" business.
  18. I sell mine for £3.50 +VAT this year, last year was £3.25, i think £7.00 is far too dear for trade price, they are large nets as said weighing 14 - 15 kg 12-14 logs in each, if i charged much more the customers would just go some where else,
  19. we use a 1x42, and have just got a 12 way splitter for it, for perfect sized logs, 34 -36cm is the best sze timber to put in. and if all our timber was straight 35cm would expect to get 6 cube an hour with 2 people and log deck loaded with crane, Mike.
  20. What do you think of the split master, i have been trying to decide weather to get one or the binderberger gigant 30 ton splitter:confused1:
  21. Well those people 15 miles up the road have been calling me, and my prices have gone up, i am getting lots of calls from new customers who say they can not find any one more local who sells decent dry wood, and they got fed up of trying to burnt wet wood last year, but yes i have produced more logs this year so hopefully i will last past january before i run out, all depends on the weather:biggrin:
  22. Or you could just put your prices up to cover rise in expenses.
  23. Down hear its £40 ton roadside then paying 12 haulage on top of that, so its no wonder they would take the lot at £30 so would i if it was closer, you should be asking 35 min as its also sorted to same size piles.
  24. How many nets are you looking for,i could probably get up 500 or 600 nets of softwood fully seasoned pm if interested i am not too far from you, Mike.
  25. I have a chainsaw processor, get on fine as long as wood is clean, if not the chain blunts quite quickly, but the chainsaw is a lot quieter than the circular apparently from what i am told.
