Harsh times call for harsh mesasures!! Its what the Viet Kong used to do to the Yanks back in 'Nam. Really vicious, but it worked and morale plummeted. Very effective!! Dirty, thiveing oxygen thiefs!!! Hang the lot and have done with!!

  19. Hi Mick,

    hope this finds you well,

I thought I woould let you know how my quest for knowledge and experiance is going.

I have just done three days with a well established business, (25 yrs), in my local area. I phoned him explained what I was after.

Well, I worked with Mike for 3 days, and had a "hoofing" time.

All I did was stand back and watch the lads go about thier business. They Did lots of pollarding, ect, and I did lots of dragging!! I was given a few tips, a look at the climbing kit, saws, chipper, ect, all very interesting.

The customers were all very chirpy, and were all keen to talk to me about Afghnistan and the Marines rather then their trees, which Mike and the lads found very amuseing, and an old deear gave me £10 for a few beers, beacuse she loves the forces and the Queen!! Which I split between the three of us.

Well, hopefully wroking two days next week, on a complete take down of an old oak or sycamore.. A great insight.

    All the best,

    Larry Lamb.

  20. Cheers lads gonna go for the tree climbers companion, a small shop near by can order it in. Happy days. Yeah, roger that, shloud have kept shtum about the Luton thing, was fuming, and my typing just ran away!! Get a grip sun shine!!
  21. Just watched i player link. Enjoyed watching it, with my minimal knowledge of the subject. Yep still keen to do that for my resettlement.
  22. Hello Good people. Can you guys reccommend a basic beginners books that covers all the esentials when starting to train in the industry. Info on kit, saws, trees, cuts ect. I know that you can't learn form a book, (I've sen the Karate Kid!! Wax on Wax off!!), but a good theory grounding aids the practical side. Cheers Larry. (PS I was absloutley disgusted, no, wait, sickened to see "those who we can't mention", screaming, spitting and verbally abuseing the British troops who were being welcomed home in Luton yesterday from Afghan and Iraq. And the police stood by and did NOTHING.):mad1:
  23. :001_tt1:Yeah, thought that would grab your attention!!! Gents and Ladies, I'm looking to gain some hands on work experiance in the arb industry, before leaving the Royal Marines (God Bless!!) in several months. I intend to or hope to make a go in the Arb world. I have heard all the doom and gloom about slow business, competetion and all that negative stuff!! Also some mega posotive and good vibes from lads on here, so happy days! Does anyone require an extra "bloke" to work with them on jobs. Obvioulsly I know and don't expect to be up climbing trees or using saws, but any experiance and top tips and any guidance will all be usefull. Getting some hands on, is what I'm about. I'm not a constant tea makeing monkey or fag roller!! I have no experiance,no arb quals no kit, no saws or tools or PPE. However I do have my own car and a good pair of boots!! I don't expect any payment what so ever. An extra pair of hands I'm sure is always usefull. And you all started from scratch I'm sure!! I live near Portsmouth so an odd day on a week end or several days over my leave period, Im available. Every little helps people!! PM me or reply to this, if you have something for me, or know someone who does!! Many thanks for your time. Be Safe. Reagrds "Larry" Lamb.
  24. Nice one mate, really appriciate that!! Was away for month in Jan, Norway, now back and sniffing around for what hands on and work exp I can get. Off to Jungles of Malaysia at end of April, should be fun!! Probobly will have had enough of trees then, but hopefully not!! I have just been emailing companied in Pompey area, most don't relpy at all, which I just rude!! But there we are. It will come, and I'm always smileing!! Regards. L.
