  2. Ladies & Gents. Please can you recommend a decent Arb Personnal Accident Policy agent / broker. I have looked at several, and trying to come up decide who to spend my money with. Someone said "well don't have an accident" Fair comment, but reality sucks!! Any suggestions and names of companies please. Regards. L:thumbup:
  3. Mick, It will Come, Who Dares..................Wins!!!
  4. Hi Mate, All the best for job searching, Im sure some of the lads on here will know someone who knows someone who will find you some work!! It will come. Its all about networking, and hearts and minds!! Speaking of which, I have my application for the retained fire service on the go, can you PM me some info on the physcometric tests ect ect!! Enjoy the forum, Cheers Larry.
  5. Mick, Its just a case of being persistant ans asking local folk an tree companies for an opportunity. I left the services in June, and did ground work, chipping ect, for free with few local companies, and bombed them with questions, tree idents, fungi, saws, climb kit ect and they were mega helpfull and really posotive and encouraging. As were the folk on this forum, they offer stacks of posotive help and you will get an answer to every question. I did my resettlement at Merrist Wood, then left the service, and went into full time employment. You do start on the ground and go for every opportunity to climb. You may not be fast or experianced but its the ony way to learn, and most lads will accept and understand, they were there at one stage, remember that. As for the service attitude, you take so much away from the services, kit, admin, timings ect, its a massive help doesnt go unnoticed. I wish I could have you with me mate, but im down near Portsmouth. Im getting my own smally jobs now, if it takes me all day to do, so be it. Its learning and experiance. It all counts. If I can help or you need any assistance, PM me. I hope you had a good Christmas, Regards Larry.
  6. Hi, PM sent, Look forward to speaking soon. Regards.
  7. Indeed lads, I hear your cries, I tried to expalin this to my buddy, but he wouldnt have it!! So as a good mate I offered to help get him some trousers, and if I get them, I will test run them, and do several squat thrusts and deep lunges!!!
  8. Hi mate, in a mad rush thats the one bit of info my mate didnt give me and i didnt ask, school boy / novice error, but I reckon large or XL. Cheers.
  9. Ladies & Gents, Happy halloween and all that............... A friend is due to start his 10 week course shortly and a requirement is to provise his own PPE. He needs a pair of Type C trousers, (pref Stihl), Does anyone have a pair they wish to sell, please?? They need to be in good nick, obviously. I'm Just going down this line prior to letting him loose in some of the kit retailers we all know and love!!! (times are hard etc etc)!!!! Thanks for your help Regards.
  10. "Your Skin's Waterproof fella, Yeah!!!!" Those were the words of my training team when we were close to drowning in torrents of horizontal rain on a yomp over Dartmoor with the world and his brother on your back!!! Hey Ho, great days!!!! Looking back fondly, of course!! I use the tusted MOD issue "Gary" Goretex jacket. It does the job and breaths too!!! Its pretty robust as well. But just becarefull as the weather is getting darker and the patteren is designed to make you blend in to the surrounds!!! Hi Viz always over the top of it to avoid being run over or simply seen by your team and the public!!! Ebay or silvermans will stock these jackets as will any good surplus store!! All the best, and the flask of hot, sweet tea in the truck is always a winner too!!! Regards!!
  11. Al, Your truck looks the business. Neat. Neat. Neat. Top advice lads, many thanks. The Top Gear bit on "killing the Hilux" was impressive. Still in two minds as to what to go for, but it will come!! Many thanks lads, stay safe. All the best.
  12. Lads, Im looking at getting a new wagon. Im keen on a Hilux or Landrover, however I know they cant carry chips and log in massive quantities such a a transit, canter ect. Im not big enough and cant sensibly afford to invest in a transit and chipper, as well as running my own personnal car. Basically, I'm after a 4 x 4 , to use as a works wagon for smally jobs and personal use. Also with a 4 x 4 I can get a trailer on tow bar, this opens a few doors. Is there such a vehicle?? Cheers lads, hope al well. Regards Larry,
  13. The good old MOD issue Gore tex jacket ia a winner. Not fashionable and defo not Hi Viz!!! But it works well and does the job. Also the Berghaus RG 1 jacket, cracking bit of kit!! Happy Hunting!!

  15. Stevie, A very happy Birthday mate. Even the Pope has come over to wish you many happy returns!! Regards
  16. Who was the the mover, the groover the man with the moves that would get a perfect 10 from Len Goodman!!!!! It was seen dancing like, well something.................. at Jonsie's show by the music stand from 2030 hrs onwards!!! The said man had a northern accent!!!! Answers Please!!! Good time at the show, good to see the lads her stories and enjoy the bar!!!
  17. Cheers for top tips lads, the pillow case and cool cycle have seemed to do the trick, although when I was rolling around the floor, tied up, covered in peatnut butter a neighbour called the police, strange!!! "Its really not what it looks like officer!!!
  18. Fellas, had a cracking day climbing, was sorting out some snow damage, from Jan, to some big ol Scots Pines today, all went well, happy days, all safe, ............. However my rope is coated in thick sticky sap, its absolutley stinking, and nasty to touch and my blakes hitch won't run smoothly!!! Obviously I dont want to bin the thing, prob dont need to!! Totally Threaders!!! Any top tips or old school advice to clean my ropes and get ris of the filth. I dont want to get then nearly clean, I want them really clean!!!! Cheers!!
  19. Mate, If you are looking for keen, new members of your team, give Merrist Wood College a call. They have folk from the 10 week course finnishing soon. They will have all their starter NPTC tickets and a bit of theory behind them. Then you can pound them into shape to suit your company!! As for the 0630 start...................cant hlep you there mate. If they want it bad enough they will make the effort!! Hope this helps. Good Luck!!!!
  20. Mark

Hope this finds you well mate. I have completed the course, at Merrist wood. Gained all tickets and had a bloody good time!! Need some advice mate!!

I had an interview yesterday for a job as a trainee climber. It is a nice lttle business, the boss and two lads. Decent truck, chipper and tools and a nice work catchment area. I have been offered the job, which is great. The wage is £65 a day on the books, above board. What you think?? I will get the opportunity to climb and develop my new skills and learn the trade too. Im on a 3 month probationary period as on 1 July.

I have my truck and trailer licence and HSE first aid. I dont want to put this on the forum as everyone throws in thier piece, saying "when I was younger I worked for nothing" ect. I can't be bothered with all that!!!

So thats that mate. I need to secure work, but dont want to be seen off, but do appriciate Im the new boy!!

    Cheers Mate

    Regards

    Larry

Had a great time and made some good friends and contacts.

Whats the better saw choice, stihl MS 362 with 16 and 20 inch bar or the ms 441 with 18 and 20 inch bar. Im thinking for chogging down and ground work with a good deal of clout all round!! Any tips welcome!! Hope your keeping well and family all good.

    Regards

    Larry.

  22. Indeed, if I had a pound for evry smoking joke, well you know the rest. And Im not gonna call him Smokey or Ash!!! More like Rommell, as my best mates dog is called Montey!!! Im looking to rescue one, so have to be assessed by the Beagle people!!! I have heard they like company, so may have to think about this. Cheers:001_cool:
  23. Lads, Any one know anything about Beagle's. I want one but need to know more, before committing!! Cheers
  24. Lads, Very true about all the dross and riff raff in the pubs. I dont do crowded places and yep, the prices go up and the only thing I end up pulling is the light switch or something that resembles Pat Butcher from "enders!! So, this year I'm with friends in Calgary, Canada. So am out to a few houses in the road for a party and get together so we shall see!!! Plus my legs are hanging out from smashing the ski slopes for the past week, and yet 3 yr old children still zoom past me laughing!!! That said, hope you all have a Hoofing and safe new year!! Regards!!
