  1. Mate, Although I have no tickets, no kit and bugger all experiance, :scared1:I am looking to get some hands on experiance, prior to staring out in the industry, before leaving the Marines. Just purely shadowing the bloke who you hire for this job, would be ideal!! Trying to speak to lads down south, Portsmouth and the like and getting no joy for any work exp!!. I'm not expecting payment at all, just some time on task!! Sods law!! Hope you find a willing bod!! Regards Larry

    Work force.

Mate, I'm one of the Marines based at the air station in Yeovilton, and looking to get my hand into any arb work, before leaving the military, and would be happy to get some hands on experiance regardles of groundie work and getting heads up on the job itself and the kit. Never done it before, but keen to learn and take any new skills away. Msg me and let me know if I can help you and if you can help me!! Cheers Larry:001_smile:
  4. :001_smile: Lads , thanks a lot. Thats what I was hoping for, it was pretty much along my train of thought. Getting your responses is hoofing!! The age old saying of" eyes and ears open, legs moving and gob shut" goes along way!! I shall keep you informed of progression. If you have any other point, fire away. Cheers!! Regards. L
  5. Ladies and Gents, A very happy new year to you all!! On my last thread I was trawling for info about the Arb indstry, training ect. Many hoofing replys and top tips from you good people. The suggestion that I should activley seek work experiance with local Arb firms cropped up several times. I have no quals and no experiance and no kit or PPE. Not a sausage........................ YET!! I have spoken to a few local firms, quite large, and well established in the Hampshire area. They have said they would happily take myself for a few days here and there, for me to learn the ropes, get a little hands on and all the other areas. I'm happy with this, what are your views and thoughts. Have they got cheap labour and a general dogs body?? I know there is starting at the bottom, and I don't expect to be doing the business and swinging from trees (you know what I mean) on day one!! What I intend is to gain quality experiance. Any comments and thoughts always welcome. Cheers. Larry.
  6. Hello Mate, through the buzz vine, someone mentioned you are an Ex Bootneck!!

My name is Phil (Larry) Lamb, I myself am serving in the Corps at the moment, however the desire to move on is approaching after 10 years!!

Basically, what I'm after, if possible, is as much info as you can throw at me on the arb industry, such as where you trained, quals you gained, employmeny, how busy ect ect.

Also your general feelings of going outside.

Any info gratefully recieved, hope to hear from you soon.

    A very happy new year.

    Kind regards

    Larry.

  7. Hey dude, thanks for the reply, a lot of valid points. KIngswood training has cropped up several times, good and bad points. I'm not married and have a house near Portsmouth, am willing to travel, within reason, to work with local companies to gain some hands on experiance. I have put the feelers out with local companies and have had some posotive feedback. If you get hold of the ex-royal PTI, could you put him in touch with me, would be appriciated. Any other info you have for me, keep it comming. I'm not due to leave the Royal's as yet, but I am putting the feelers out. I've had a great crack and the lads are second to none. However Afghan is wearing thin, and you can see the way it's all going. Mate, I wish you a happy new year. Knd regards Larry Lamb
  8. Cheers mate, Just like my favourite by the song by the Killers "Mr Brightside". Thanks for the positive vibe. Any tips send them my way!! Your not an ex-Royal are ya!!
  9. With Ref to Dave Smith, I don't know him, but as with most things, I would prob recognise the face!! Thanks fot the reply. General feeling, is that it is hard to get going, especially at the moment, but I have considered this. I've made no rash decisions yet, just getting the feelers out, but it's the area I am keen to get into. Outdoors, hard work, proper tools, get out and about!! Cheers!! Larry
  10. Martin does not spring to mind, I call most RSM's ......................Sir!!! Where is he based, or is he deployed. I prob don't know him, but would certainly have heard of him. Regards L
  11. Cheers mate, sounds positive. Where abouts do you work, and whow long have you been in the industry?? How did you train and really get to grpis with the whole thing?? Reagrds. L
  12. Gents, thanks very much for the advice. All points taken on board, and although I havn't made any major descisions as yet, it's all helping to build my "bigger picture"!! The training establishments in Guildford sounds good, but I could'nt really afford to take 10 weeks out of work, earning no money. However, the prospect of doing a few days work experiance here and there, to gain some knowledge would, for sure, be on the cards. It all makes sense. I don't or probobly won't have my own gear though!! I have been doing signals and communications, so worked all around the bizzares, done all the para courses and helicopter stuff, so, hopefully heights are not an issue!! Any more top tips you can fire my way are always appriciated. Cheers and speak soon. L.
  13. Gents & Ladies I hope you all had a great christmas and business is booming!! I'm looking to leave the Royal Marines in the next 5 months, after 10 "hoofing" years, however time to move on, at 31, life is still there to be lived!! I am entitled to all the training grants and resetlement courses, and I intend to train in the field of tree surgery. I live on the south coast, near Portsmouth. Can you provide me with the basic quals required, training persons or establishments where I can obatin my tickets. How is business generally, are you feeling the "credit crunch" and the general financial issues at the moment. Once qualified, I appriciate that quality experiance is worth a thousand qualifications, but is there decent well paid arbicultural work out there. I am keen and willing to work with companies on jobs to gain experiance, I have my own transport, but not invisage having any kit as yet. Any top tips and advice is well recieved. Thanks and kind regards Larry.
  14. Mate, Try haveing a look in an old military surplus store, for a G10 98 issue sleeping bag. They are robust and very warm, even when wet. Not the smallest when compressed down, but warm warm warm. Also get hold of a roll matt to lay on, a standard gortex bivvi bag, and if you can a poncho for top cover. Thats you warm, dry:001_cool: Happy hunting!!!
