  1. Cheers Dean, looks a good set-up. Type I'll look into
  2. thought he may pick up on this post
  3. Have been looking at the thread 'Show your tractors' but can't figure oput exactly which kubota model Dean has. Any help
  4. If it's only 7m, and causing a light problem already, it's going to cause them a lot of work in the future. You said the right thing. Removing it would be best. If leader is removed, some of the lateral branches will only take over and the tree will look unnatural
  5. Although, I use the 3-way for tree climbing, I never had a problem when I used screwgate's. I think laziness was the biggest problem for some people with screwgates. I would not be surprised if screwgates became accepted for climbing use in the future.
  6. Just found out that two of my 3-way climbing carabiners were partly seized, and were not closing correctly. Could easily have had an accident with them. Have now replaced them with new. A bit of WD-40 worked wonders on them, and they now work ok. I tend to check them fairly often, but not often enough, it seems. be careful
  7. your views backup my thoughts, so ill just stick in some husky oil
  8. Have just bought brand new MS 660. Never being fired up yet. Have both stihls and husqvarna sawesrunning with no problems on Husqvarna engine oil. Will The husqvarna oil be ok in the new stihl. Would it affect the gurentee?
  9. I always take an extendable pole with me up the tree. Serves all sorts of uses; including pulling back your climbing rope from an adjacent tree. also great for pulling lowering rope back to you, to enable running bowline to be tied.
  10. Dean, If you want a sprayer go for a solo. Been using them for 15 years. Had one Cooper Pegler, (never again) The 15l solo is far far better than its Cooper Pegler counterpart. About £90 plus VAT. never used Bastion. Don't go for a 20l one as too heavy 1 The solo is curved and fits your back perfectly. CP is straight and uncomfortable. If you use all day this is most important 2 The solo will stand up when you fill it , The CP will fall over if you fart, most annoying 3 Solo lance is bendy. CP is brittle and easily snapped if you trap it . An extension lance is a good idea, about £15 4 Solo is reasonably clear so you can tell how much is in it . CP you can't do this
  11. I think it may be a case like you say that the rubbers have perished. Will have a closer look, but looks like a new axle may be needed
  12. no, its the offside one. suspension unit is all part of the axle, which is a essieux axle. Have checked bolts are tight etc. if it is a bent axle stub would it be best getting a new complete axle as the suspenson units have seized anyway.
  13. One of the tyres keeps wearing on the inside. Pressure ok. Bearing is new. This is the second tyre now wasted. Has anyone else had this problem. Chipper is ch25ph entec. could it be a problem with the suspension axel
  14. only ever had heat stroke once. Taking tops of spruce all day in a woodland. Got home and could not get off the floor because of cramp. was stuck there till the wife came home. Thought I'd had a heart attack. Water and salt soon cured it. all round leg protection - not me, can't stand it even in winter
  15. Can anyone recomment a supplier of exhausts for this chipper entec ch25ph. Timberwolf want about £160
  16. I have personal experience of this myself. Yes Glyphosate can and does kill adjacent trees. With my experience, it was only trees of the same species, and luckly they were only 10/20 year old trees within a caravan site woodland.
  17. Used to be a member. would not join again in near future. Arb journal was only of real use for researchers and consultants. Would soon send the average arborist to sleep within about 30 seconds. Furthermore, after not renewing my subscription, they kept sending me reading material for months to come; and tried to invoice me for them. These comments come from someone who did an arb HND and used those very same journals for research in the early/mid 90's AA, probably, great for students, consultants and those eager enough to become AA approved, but not for me at the moment. To be honest, I prefer to read these forums. A lot more use to the average arborist
  18. Father- in laws a joiner. Never paid to sharpen TW blades in the last 4 years. Attached in front of grinder he has a jig which is commonly available to wood turners etc. Blade sits on top of jig and is moved back and forth until across wheel. Works for me. Never had a problem with the chipper yet. Always make sure both blades are equally ground to same size. Jig costs about £50/70
  19. what problems have you had with the titan? I have the 30T one and it works fine. Have had it about a year now. A few teething problems to start with, but been ok since
  20. Bill, the only advice I can give you is practice, practice, practice. And never be totally satisfied with what you produce, as you can always do better. Try turning green wood as it's a lot easier, and you don't get as much dust. The finished item may warp when it starts to dry, but don't worry about that too much. Keep your tools as sharp as possible. You will need a bench grinder for this Always were a dust mask or use a good extractor. I do both. I also turn in my chainsaw helmet, with viser down, As things can and do fly off. For tools try Axminister. They have a web site Good luck
  21. Thought I'd just post a list of the physical symptoms that anxiety can bring about. These are all things that have personally happened to me. Sleep problems, daytime tirednes,Twitches, Headaches, underarm sweating, Shingles, Constarpation, the runs, wind, breathing difficulty, swallowing problems, have to keep swallowing (usually happens in bed), Pain between ribs, Panic attack (rush of adrenoline) palaptations, Dribbling of urine (No, I'm not over 80), Nettle rash (urticaria). Also had pain behind eye which was stress related. The vast majority of my symptoms are caused by muscle tension. Obviously, these things can be caused by other things, some a lot more serious than anxiety. If in doubt see a doctor. Mine is brilliant. I always come out feeling a lot better than when I went in. Thats all folks
  22. I'm just the same. Not a lot of work and I'm a lot worse to live with. Stress is a strange thing. A head of a mulit-national company with 20,000 employees may feel very little stress. A bloke working for himself may feel loads. It's an individual thing
  23. The ammount of posts to this thread tells me that I am not alone. I could probably write a book on the effects of anxiety and OCD. It got so bad that I kept thinking I'd run someone over or caused an accident, even though, deep down I know I had'nt. Even got round to ringing the old bill just to check. People with OCD are probably some of the most trustworthy people around. I alwys clear up a site with great care in case I leave a 'accident waiting to happen' Things like this can play on my mind for ages. I also took pills to reduce OCD. They work for me. However, I still wake up with clenched muscles, get twitches, sweat a lot. All physical signs of stress. It started long before I was involved with trees. However, I find that the busier I am the less I worry. Too much thinking time is bad for me. Also, like everyone else I appreciate my family more than anything elso. Everyone out there keep you chins up. Life's great even with a few worries
  24. Nothing wrong with the CH25pH Iv'e had mine nearly 4 years, and never had a problem with it yet. Clean filters, Change all oil, don't abuse it; and it will run and run. A bit dear on petrol though.
