  1. Do loads of bracken spraying in summer. I always used a blue dye. Try greentech. Just mix a bit in the water, works great. Is also good, as you know if you have a leak or spillage, as you can see the stain. Tried food colouring years age (rubbish)
  2. I have a good working relationship with my LPA. However, can the LPA demand that you fill in one of their application forms. In a neighbouring LPA these forms are quite time consuming and require photo's and lots of info. Or can you just write them a dated letter explaining what you intend to do? Bearing in mind I'm talking about Con Areas, not TPO's. As far as I knew all you had to do was inform the LPA of the work you intend to do and it's up to them from there on in wether they allow the work to go ahead or TPO the tree.
  3. Was cutting back a leylandii hedge today. Phone line was in way but I was'nt too bothered about it. small branch went on to it, and I pulled it off. This is something I do time and time again. After that I noticed it was not a phone line but a thin electric line. I think I was very lucky. Now Iv'e been doing this for 15 years now and know exactly how to tell the differance between phone and electric lines, but was caught out for the very first time today. The sun was in my eyes (unusual for Yorkshire) and I just thought it was a telephone line. Iv'e learned a lesson today. Be careful out there and don't get your wires mixed up.
  4. Have rang them. Might take a look through next week. Cheers
  5. will check on size, but I know the one from engine drive shaft (prob about 1") is larger than one which attaches to pump( (prob about 0.5". To be honest I only need the smaller half (obne to pump) and the rubber middle bit
  6. does anyone know where I can get one of these half couplings for my log splitter. Only place which I can find is Northern Tool USA. It's only a cheap part but can't find exactly same in UK. Any help please
  7. Can anyone recommend anybody who makes tipper bodies for pickup's. Has to be in North of England. Have searched web and found a few , but would like a recommendation
  8. Iv'e had my 2001 entec for about five years now. No problems with the bearing yet. Been a great machine. Mine's the 25hp petrol one. Would buy another
  9. both me and my father have the aga little wenlock. Great stove, but don't pay the price stated in the report. Can get it for around £500
  10. hve used husky since 1985 and have only had this problem once. This was with my current 372xp, where the bolts on the dogs keeps coming loose. never had it on another husky saw.
  11. 1 L200 van (fully com) 1 entec ch25ph chipper 1 rayco rg25 grinder. all covered for a year with NFU £430.00. was £490 last year. Can't complain at that. Also have public liability with them. Great service. was an initial issue about felling trees over 10m high. But I got it in writing that I was covered felling any size tree. Great service. Had a small claim on the van which was settled with no trouble.
  12. looking for a 70 -90cc chainsaw to run my lewis winch. MUST have inboard clutch, like for eg 372xp. (I know a lewis winch will run on any sprocked, but prefer this type) Am at the moment using my 372, and need something similar. Not bothered about a bar/chain or clutch cover. Anything considered as it won't get much use. But it MUST start and run ok
  13. 16th of may was a sad day. Just found out that the best singer in heavy rock had died. I grew up listening to Dio, in bands like Rainbow and Black Sabbath. If you've never heard him sing, you don't know what your missing. Rest in peace Ronnie.
  14. Live in National Park and it's always been 6 weeks. Dos'nt really matter too much as they always reply in good time
  15. Is it 6 weeks notice or am I wrong and its 8 weeks notice?
  16. contact the LPA, they will send you a form to fill in. Within 6 weeks they must tell you whether or not they have no objection as to what you propose. If they have no objection, your ok.
  17. Thanks for advice, will give winch a miss
  18. Have learnt a thing or two from the forum's recently. However, I never thought I'd be asking exactly how do you identify. heron cr.p form any other bird cr.p?
  19. I have the chance to buy a trewhella (monkey) winch. I used one in the early 1990's at college; and boy was it a beast. Pulled far more than the biggest tirfor. Now, I have not seen the winch, but the bloke wants £250 for it. comes with 7/8ths wire rope. Does this sound too much. Apparently, the thing is capable of pulling up to 10 tons. Also have read a couple of threads on arbtake about them being dangerous. Are they anymore dangerous than a tirfor?, as I can't remember how the thing worked when I last used one (1990's)
  20. Like other comments, use it's appearance as an indication that the tree is already stressed by other causes.
  21. Having thought about it, i think the heron thing is possible. The trees were near a river. Now, they arn't many herons up here, but I often see one on this stretch of the river. They was also a couple of dead frogs on the ground, and the frogspawn was on the top of a large horizontal limb. Just the place to take a meal
  22. How does This explain the frogspawn on stuck to the top of the branch? It was not just the odd bit, but a whole clump.
  23. Todays job was to crown raise and thin a horse chestnut and a sycamore. In the garden was a pond. About 40ft up the sycamore I found a dead Frog. On the top side of one of the Horse chestnut limbs I thought I saw some interesting fruit bodies. However, upon a closer look they turned out to be frogspawn. Have never seen this before. Has anyone else seen it.
  24. local stone. Was old dry stone wall, before I rebuilt it. Yes, odd stone sticking out. Called a 'through' up here, as it goes through the whole width of the wall. Based in wensleydale, north yorks
  25. Here's a wall I did for myself a few years ago. About 6ft tall and 60ft long. Not dry stone, but it took a hell of a long time to do
