  1. Presumably it was felled yesterday...
  2. We had one from Coppards a few months back but I don't know how widespread they are.
  3. If some of it needs homing Al give me a call. The missus loves to keep it next to the burner for a couple of days before burning it to get the pong from the oils. Jon

    Bottled it!

If the company concerned is taking on windblow work why don't they have a Tirfor?!
  5. As above Greenwaste Logs, chip, green waste...
  6. They're primitive trees with a requisite simple form; an upright single stem with all branches growing directly out of it in regular rings (whorls). Not a tree that lends itself to formative pruning. God knows what would happen if you cut the top off one: a new upright leader? Multiple leaders? Rot getting into the wound? I don't know but it would be wrong! Now you know what it is you'll be surprised how many you spot. I really suggest not shoehorning one into a spot in which it cannot be left to mature.
  7. Araucaria araucana - Monkey Puzzle Tree - 3 litre Monkey Puzzle [3 litre] - £20.68 : Don't be fooled by its size in the pot. Final height can be over 100' exceptionally but neither you nor I will be here to see it.
  8. Done it in the name of solidarity, being Rotherfield born and bred. Well done C-i-H; Season's Greetings!
  9. ...and at Stratfield Saye near Reading, planted by 'the' Duke of Wellington(ia) at the family home.
  10. Something along these lines I hope you mean... (not walnut of course)
  11. Don't give up on it. I recently transported a couple of poplar sticks for someone for milling. It's certainly not useless though shifting small amounts is probably harder than large ones as it does have industrial uses.
  12. Twig, is it an illusion or has the Turkey Oak moved a lot since turning; that vase looks oval.

    Corwood

Or kindlett who's just offered some on another thread.
  14. Not at all Steve; a very common garden shrub; I've even got two myself! It just isn't often allowed to grow to a good size. Some years ago I got a vase back from a length of 9" trunk I donated to turners.
  15. Horse Chestnut is one of the very few species I never put in a logpile; let the beetles have it.
  16. So you're back in the groove; good to see - welcome! My impression of recent winters' weather is that the position of the jetstream means everything. What say you? Thanks, Jon

    Disgusting!

A situation that won't change without a governmental change in attitude from 'how can we screw money out of this one?' to 'how can we deal properly with waste?' It's sad that the term 'recycling' has almost become a form of lip service to the ideal. You only have to see the differences between every LA's doorstep recycling (what they'll take, what they won't) to see that the whole thing's driven purely by money.
  18. Thanks Goaty; if I'd only searched for 'fruitwood' and not 'fruit wood'...
  19. A while ago there was a thread offering up to £400 a ton for the right size of fruit tree prunings. Sorry, I can't find it but maybe someone else can. I think the guy was Essex or E/Anglia based.
  20. What a rubbish Chrissie pressie for the missus; you should be ashamed of yourself.
  21. Heavens no - that's what one employs staff for. Evening Al.
  22. Good luck if you work up this way: one nearby London borough will only do the checks via e-mail, though they are quick in response, usually the same day but at least the next. Another London Borough recently didn't reply to their own website proforma, an e-mail to Planning or one direct to the TO's own .gov.uk e-mail address.
  23. As john p suggests I guess that the breakaway cable properly clipped on forms part of the braking system so if it's not clipped the system is defective.

    VW Touareg

My only knowledge of a Toerag is a friend's and she had a mare with it. VW told her the wheels couldn't accept offroad tyres, they admitted that on test driving it themselves the tracking was going out in 10 miles (front tyres were lasting 2,000 miles) and that the tracking couldn't actually be adjusted perfectly at all. After over a year of wrangling she got rid of it, with some compensation I believe. That vehicle may have been a Friday pm special of course but it may also provide the basis for further research.
  25. ...and good turning/working wood. My daughter's very pleased with her yellow bookshelves.
