i have heard of the chain break melting before, but never with me. my first one cost me over 1100quid plus vat 9 years ago, so they are a bargain now me thinks:001_smile:

all good mate, i personally wouldnt bother with any other bar than the 36inch. keep the big saw for big stuff and use an 046 with 25inch bar for the other. imo:001_smile:

i looked at a bearcat years ago, it was half the price and was obvious why when i saw it, it has its place i expect. i have ran pto tps for 7 years, great machine, very simple to maintain and change blades, the stop handle only on the one side can be a pain but other than that excellent machine, i wouldnt go above a tp 250 though as i think there prices go a bit nuts from then on. imho

its a pain coz you dont get any sparks or sounds, the saw keeps going then just gets really blunt. mostly found it sycamores round these parts

the shorter ropes are much better for towing aswell, also to make up the length when the turfer wire is too short. big ropes are heavy too. i am getting on in years.

i understand what you are saying though pete. i do manage my rope properly. maybe i just dont do as big a trees as you guys. i have a 40m rope that i have used about 6 times in ten years. always managed just fine with the smaller one. i have never ran out of rope on limbs. i would say an average hardwood round here is 60feet, so my rope does. maybe i am a minimilist, even if i dont have the exact stuff for the job or you get break downs i always find a way to get the job done. i am not trying to be smart i just seem to manage.

i work with a 20m, long ropes are ok for poles but a pain in a big crown, imo.

if i had to have a 4x4 for work that was going to be used like a tractor i would buy a landrover, if i had my choice of 4x4 just to have and play, it has to be an older landcruiser. I think dean has both. i was subbing to a big company a few years back when they bogged their u1200 with chipper down to the axles, another guy turned up and pulled it out with the cruiser. no wheel spins nothing. awesome. but when my clutch went on my fully loaded 2150 and chipper on a 1 in 8 hill. my pal towed me from a standing start with his brand new range rover.

fantastic, they did that to 2 wellingtonias in aberdeenshire years ago for the :001_smile:oil pipeline to go through a avenue of them, the old gamekeeper said they found nothing after.

my first chipper was a gravity fed pto. totally shite. dangerous in so many ways. constantly got blocked, whacked the life out your fingers. if anyone wants it they can have it. i am not delivering it. its in inverkip.

howdy, the chipper that was on my valmet before i bought it was the same, it had the top roller conversion. my tractor has a camera on it for when they were feeding it.(blind spot they said) it has a pile of weights on it. mine is the 8950.
would love one but not got the money or the work to justify it to be honest but if the woodfuel pics up in my area then thats the chipper for me. cheers for the invite, same to you if you are ever up this way mate. stevie
