  1. lets look at mats situation. he works very ruraly yet covers a big milagae daily, he has a very varied type of work, he has a team of guys constantly doing his bt pole contract, and he has a chance of extracting, now it isnt exactly the himalayas where he works in the granton and spey area. he also does tree surgery and has to hire in a tracked chipper for those jobs. he also does call out for a number of big companies, and as we know most storm damage is a matter if winching it to the side and tidy in the morning. so why not get a good base unit that can handle implements and cover good road miles, if he comes across some extreme logging situations then the purse strings wont be so tight on the job so he could sub someone in, and to be honest no matter what bit of kit he buys a forwarder is the one for the job, but if he can at least shuttle stuff on forest roads with a timber boggey then why not, when he does his night shift, hire a local 3 point chipper and off he goes, he could get one for about 50 quid a day until he can justify his own. he will be alongside harvester and forwarder guys all the time that will lend him a hand or point him in the right direction if he gets breakdowns.. and i know for a fact he is desperate to have a mog...
  2. nice one rupe, i used to use my quad for taking the chipper into gardens when i ran a 3.5 toner, and they are great toys to have so if your work can pay for it then nice one. my turning point is when i looked at my huge chip pile that just rots away and gets shoved over banking is worth zilch, at the most a 10 a ton, but you have to get a loader in and sell tons to make it work. or firewood that is worth about 240quid a ton, i think you could almost do tree surgery for free now and still make money on the logs, and if someone did that then why not. its one way to beat the competition. lol i used to produce minimium 2 tones a day of chip. thats 480 quid if it were firewood. even small diameter wood is burnable. and a lot easier to turn into logs or kindling
  3. if someone kicked a football at my trellis then i would boot their ass, i reckon it would take a shot from pele that trellis:thumbup:
  4. i have bogged many a quad mate, nightmare machines to get out
  5. clever man, and you get the double bonus of having a winch:thumbup1:
  6. i like the front buk rake andy, how does it lift up and down??
  7. i would gladly have my thread in a landscapers forum, most of the guys that have appeared in the business in the last few years are landscapers, hell its where i started. that is our competition, its only us that think we should ONLY do trees and thats it is traveling folk that offer other services, i wish i could fence personally, i pass on all my fencing to someone else and he does ok.
  8. it aint luck matt, it is all in the deal you make with the customer, they trust me not to leave it 3 feet deep. i would never of thought it either, but times are changing, wanabee rich folk with a mortgage 5 times their wage and 2 bmw's on finance dont phone anymore, which is great. all my customers are either first time buyers or retired, so the name of the game is a good contractor that will offer a budget service. if they want it away it costs them, but with a bit of scouting around their garden or even give them a few days to ask their neighbours or friends if they could use chip or logs can make a big difference. if the bush was their, then why cant a pile of chip 1 tenth the size be there too. kids at school are getting taught about the environment, why do you think i do work with the schools encouraging log piles and echo gardens. yes it is the right thing to do and t enjoy it but from a business point of view it is educating my customers aswell.
  9. it may take some time as i struggle to get fabrication done, i would be quicker sending it down to you mate. i picked up another job today because folk cant believe i sold the mog, they havent seen it about so were worried i had chucked it, so i told them why and my different methods now, within 5 seconds they told me how their cherry tree was dying and their daughter had a log burner. so i have to go and see them on monday and sort them out with some mulch and firewood then replant. sweet
  10. i think simon can use this to his advantage, every time the boys do something they shouldnt then the other will stick it on here and he will see it, saves him checking up on them:lol: then he can give the gaffer a roasting on here.
  11. they just pop out mate, you may need the plug key to give it a little help.
  12. nice pics mozza, i have never worked in a cemetery, and i cant imagine a harder place to carry out tree work. some amazing trees there, and i think joes zoro actions should be rewarded with a sliky deadwooding day in his vest up the big monkey lol
  13. i know matt, i had clicked on reply and not quote so couldnt be bothered going into advance to put up a wee face:biggrin:
  14. you can call it what you like edward, if folk get bored with my thread it will just disapear into the arb history with the rest of them, i think there is a huge advantage to this type of kit, it is expanding my business as we speak, i have had to get a climber in on monday and i have a 2 week waiting period for my customers now that i have that much on. i am seriously thinking on buying another small chipper to hire out it has generated that much interest.
  15. it is running sweet as a nut now dean, first pull and away she went
  16. i think you will be the only one who knows what you need for your different applications matt, but you will probably have to compromise due to budget like the rest of us. if you have a chance of a good contract and have been asked to take on more then get it in writing and go and see the bank. not many folk are in your position in the current climate, if you are not quick someone else might just do it before you
  17. blow up unimog more like, i have been rumbold again. lol greedy boards will be built josh, havent tried it yey david as the old man hijacked it for logs today
  18. i have had a few dave, the best one i had that was nice and easy to ride yet the most fun was a polaris 250, it was automatic, you just stuck it in gear and away you went, iit wasnt twitchy like a lot of 2 wheel drive ones and i would let a 12 yr old play on one no bother, but it also had the oomff to have fun, nice and light too, if you get them stuck they are easy enought o pull out, and boys being boys they are going to coup and crash them, it just goes with the teritory mate, i would definately get them body armour and the right helmets. remember your boys with in a year are going to be expert nut cases on these things so will want a bigger one, quads really hold their value, i would find your local dealer and stick with him, if you are buying 3 then he will give you a great deal i wreckon. it is easy enough to restrict the throttle at first, probably best starting them on smaller cc ones at first but the bigger frame makes them more stable, they will wreck little 50cc's.
  19. mmmmmmmmmmmmm, i dont think i will even try and put any input into this one, nice pics though petey
  20. well maintained affordable kit is the secret i think, i had expensive kit that was costly to repair sitting about most of the time. i love the old fords with those bull noses. i love the huge 6 cylinder ones, you see them kicking about with low loaders, i dont know what model they are but they are real grunters
  21. we firewooded one last year and i know the stump went in a skip. boo hoo hoo, burned lovely though:biggrin:
