  1. a good starting point to build from
  2. Fitness should be an issue but a positive mental attitude is more important. if you are willing to work hard at what you want to do youll get there.
  3. thanks monkeyd im certainly interested. cheers
  4. i have landy 130 tipper and would like to find out the same info. The lro website might provide the answer
  5. I suspect its an area tpo so reclassification will be necessary. Ask your client to go to the tree officer with a management plan, the tree officer might look favourably or get forestry commission woodland grant scheme in place. Do not under any circumstances fight it. The local authority will win. I know from experience in past as a tree officer.
  6. Is the tpo an area one. If so they must record what trees there are (no's and species). In the old days tree officers used to slap tpo's on and not need to quantify them. This should only happen in an emergercy and before the tpo is confirmed its to be scheduled. Ask your client to speak to the tree officer and clarify as potentially your client could stick two fingers up and say Im never going to touch the trees again. I suspect the issue could have been avoided by simply running by the tree officer what you were going to do and what you and the clients objectives were. Yeh yeh easy to say afterwards I hear you say but how is he/she supposed to know whats going on before the nimbys irrate phone call. The Local authority may not choose to confirm the order in which case its no longer valid.
  7. hey adam u found any girlies over there yet? Glad 2 hear ur on the mend now. Ill send some injury photos to u by end of week. u need to get a pantin.. sod footlocking. easier for us older boys.

  11. I agree with you john. survey the hedge for nesting birds and inform client its illegal to disturb/ damage nests with birds on eggs.
  12. Personal accident cover is worthwhile if you are selfemployed or poss off work long term. They will only pay out half your monthly income and will only pay out when off for more than 2 weeks. generally cost under £10.00 per month. Half your income is better than no income.
  13. I went from college to being a tree officer back in 1989. The job is not as easy as it sounds. Dealing with all sorts of views from members of the public(many of which were crackpots) including councillors that dont have a clue but want re-elected so theyd flog their granny to get back in office. They have the same view as most of you and groan at cowboy jobs. You guys can walk away from jobs they cant and the public know their rights (citizen charters etc) If I came across another tree professional I discussed the tree job with them and came to a concensus of opinion of what was required then move forward to grant permission. fact of the matter is I loved the job but went self employed in 1998. Id love to go back to those days but life is sweeter in my chosen location.
  14. I would record the piece of equipment with cert of conformity and when first put into use. When you employ a subbie, they are directly responsible for their kit unless you give them yours. I would find out if their gear is certified. If their kit isnt loler tested dont use em and make sure their insured. Its your name at the end of the day. As for no-ones adding to the thread. Guess its due to the early comment. fact is I thought this was a discussion site where views are exchanged. Ps. Im a loler inspector
  15. skin back the bark in the growing season and apply table salt (£4 for 20kg) dont need to apply much to be affective.

The Duke of Buccleuch might also be welcoming at Drumlanrig (D&G) I also personally know the factor there. Give me notice and Ill be there. We might also be able to set up regular meets as discussion group and invite speakers in.
