  1. There is a lit of timber there, spoke to the customer today and they want it all for firewood - probably 2 days of cutting up (and 20l of fuel!)
  2. Just found a few shote on a USB of when we first went to it, before and after the weight reduction and a few of the bracing and Gannoderma bracket...oh and Liam (Mozza) giving the job the thumbs up
  3. On this occasion I think part of the canopy would have remained, but would have required removal anyway. I think the combined weight of the failed limbs braced to the rest of the canopy ensured complete failure of the crown. If this bracing was put in originally to ensure that if limbs failed they would desirably land in the open area that they did, therefore avoiding damage to the wall and property, then it was genius! (however - I dont think so!)
  4. Not great quality but a couple from a walk with my daughter at the weekend
  5. Firewood! That is unless they cough at the price of removal! It looks strangely in place where it is, I think because the canopy of the mature tree can be imagined where it used to be. With the natural fracture and decay in the stem it would mak a great habitat stick - we'll see, there will probably be pics on our tree work thread showwing the felling/grinding/returfing of the area
  6. Fair paly mate, somthing theraputic and satisfying about chogging down!
  7. Nice job Stevie, did you ring it all the way down to the pic with the saw on it?
  8. Thats whats currently holding me off buying, there is such a selection I find it easier to spec the specific machine for each job and put the cost on accordingly. I think a 20m 3.5t truck mount is probably the most versatile, but still lacks in heght on the bigger jobs!
  9. Went to look at this failed Beech tree today, we reduced the canopy around 12 months ago to try and prolong this happening. The tree had been heavily braced, was riddled with Ganno, including the brackets forming inthe splits in the stem! Interestingly, the bracing held all the canopy together so the failure (which would have split into 3 directions Northish Southish and East) all fell the same way into one big pile! There were bits of the bracket and split Beech trunk scattered all around, as if a grenade had gone off at the top of the trunk!!
  10. Two and a bit days, the mewp played up yesterday which meant it took longer
  11. The platform is hired, this one has a reach of 17m which was ample. Have looked at a selection of MEWP's with a mind of buying but cant make a decision on a) the perfect height (Bigger the better?!) and b) the design, trailer mount/vehicle/tracked....
  12. A row of 14 Poplars heavy reduction as bits were failing from the previous reduction points onto the garages behind. Had to keep checking with the met office until the wind was blowing South to make the job easier
  13. Little Johnny should have been competent enough to sectionally fell the Sycamore tops into the landowners property, therefore not blocking the road!
  14. Good job Rob!! Couldnt you talk them into trimming the Conifers??
  15. looks like she needs ear defenders with those speakers!
  16. The tree does not appear to be growing out of control of its environment, maybe shortening back of the branches towards the property if required (cant tell how close they are) crown clean, lift and thin - possibly 15-20%. It is difficult to judge properly as I havent seen the tree in person so maybe completely wrong!
  17. This is because the father lets his son get away with it, the family relationship needs to left at home and every member of staff treated with the same rules and dicipline IMO
  18. This maybe a cost effective solution?
  19. Nice pictures as always David, is the climber warming his hands on the saws exhaust?
  20. They were the mother of all Conifers too mate!
  21. Matt "rigging king" Hirons did the dismantle and Ady "the squirrell" Grundy did the reduction and thin.... ...it may possibly be Steve "the grinder" Bullman doing the stump in the morning
  22. The reduction was completed today followed by a thin to Beech a bit further down the road, just the stump to grind now
  23. I'll find something else interesting for you mate dont worry!
  24. Its 11t mate, quite a compact little lorry feels no bigger than our 7.5 tonner.
